In the South here, this year and last year we’ve gotten really low temps, in the single digits and teens. What ends up happening is that old gaskets warp permanently when they’re old and get this cold. Every time we have a cold wave cars start dumping oil from old crusty gaskets and we wake up to pools of oil. Last year this happened to the valve cover gasket and I used your video to fix it. This year the oil cooler gasket warped in the cold. Used your video again to fix it up. I really appreciate you taking the time for such an old car like this Altima. It’s helped me save thousands of dollars. This fix was a lot more difficult than I expected, you make it look so easy! Took me hours and hours, it’s so hard getting the hoses off.

@@TrickShiftGarage ....all good...went nice and easy thanks to you! First time fixing this on an altima...I've serviced 100's...first time for this leak...my guys were shocked too...thanks again!!!
Hey I just wanted to thank you for all the videos you’ve posted on the Altima. I’ve saved my elderly dad a lot of money just learning how to wrench on it myself from watching your videos. And I appreciate how you always put torque specs and all the issues you run into. It helps me be more prepared! I just wanted to write about how grateful I am for people like you. I’m about to attempt this after doing the valve cover from your video. We have an oil leak that I’m not sure where it’s coming from. 1 question, were the hoses easy to pull out? I had so much trouble with the power steering hoses and the PCV valve hose (that broke). Just curious whether or not I should prepare with an extra hose or anything?

Where can I get oil cooler gasket or seal for QR 25 engine Missan Xtrail
Regarding blowing out bolt holes with air to remove oil/coolant, you mentioned it could crack block if not....could you give some insight as to why?
@TrickShiftGarage
Жыл бұрын
What basically happens is any oil or fluid trapped inside will have no where to escape once the bolt is tightened down, if there's enough pressure, the "easier" route for the fluid to go is to push against the block causing a crack for the fluid to escape. An aluminum engine block will give out before a steel bolt does. Hope this helps give some insight. Thanks for watching Adrian!👍

This also happens with 2011 Nissan Altima cars. I have one and it leaks oil from that part of the oil cooler. Any video on how to send it or the one I'm watching is the same as 2011

It's this the same process for a 2013 Nissan Altima? I have oil leaking from passenger side. How do I check it? Thanks in advance

Yes, Nissan used the same engine and oil cooler for this model year as well. We have a video that shows this exact leak right here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/q6t416Oxn8mviNY.html Thanks for watching! 👍
Can this issue cause oil to leak so bad that literally all the oil leaks out during normal operation in a matter of a day or 2
@TrickShiftGarage
Жыл бұрын
Hi Arthur, it's possible but highly unlikely. The O-ring inside the oil cooler is what the cause is. It degrades over time and stops sealing the two halves of the oil cooler. The only way I can see losing all the oil in a couple of days is if it cracked open and had oil gushing out. Hope this video helps. Thanks for watching! 🙂
Does the cooler ever warp? Meaning a gasket is only temporary - because it can't seal nicely?
@TrickShiftGarage
Жыл бұрын
I haven't heard of this particular oil cooler warping but it's certainly possible if it gets hot enough. Usually the gasket or O-ring just breaks down, then it begins leaking because it's not sealing anymore. Thanks for watching! 👍
Hey did u check that o'ring gasket from the # i send u ...never buy parts from different dealer . of ur car
@TrickShiftGarage

Yes, that O-ring was for the V6's CVT unfortunately. I think I might just go to a Nissan Dealer and hopefully they can figure it out. I'll be sure to let you know though. Thanks again for your help! 😉

Do you have to drain the oil first to do this?
@TrickShiftGarage
9 ай бұрын
No, you don't have to but you will have to add some oil back (I think I lost about half a quart). Do a final oil level check before starting the engine back up. Thanks for watching! 👍
Video was helpful. I just did this job today, but instead of removing the coolant lines at the housing, I removed them underneath the air box then pulled the cooler out the wheel well. That made it pretty easy to remove the coolant lines.

Hi Oli, it was definitely a pain to take those hoses off! What I found to be helpful was to unbolt the oil cooler first, then lower it down so you can see the coolant hoses better. Just make sure to label the hoses so you don't get them mixed up. Thanks for watching 👍

Hello! This oil leak was slow and gradual. When I changed the oil and filter one day, I noticed the oil pan was glazed in oil and started looking up above and noticed more oil on the cooler. I used an oil dye and blacklight to confirm the leak.

The bad o ring , can it make white smoke come out the tail pipes?
@TrickShiftGarage
4 ай бұрын
No, white smoke in the exhaust usually means coolant is getting into the combustion chambers and burning off, causing the white color. Could possibly be a bad head gasket. I'd take it to a shop and have them look it over to make sure first. Thanks for watching! 👍

if you have line clamps you can clamp the hoses. I've seen another video where they clamped and detached the hoses at the engine end and pulled them out with the cooler and drained the coolant for reuse.
