Nisargadatta Maharaj - The Power of Awareness and Transcending the 'I Am" - Advaita

Key pointers from Nisargadatta on the power of awareness and transcending the 'I am' to the Absolute.
Taken from the text "I Am That" by Maharaj (translated by Maurice Frydman). These have been compiled and intended for deep listening and meditation.

There’s hardly anyone who cuts through the veil of ignorance as sharply as Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj. So clear, simple though profound words without the need of any bloomy paraphrasing. Amazing! And all so lovingly read by you, Jayasara. Pure gratitude… 🙏🏻

Absolutely! Completely agreed. Not to be a non-dually OCD but His words are direct and non metaphorical which is exactly what experience can be. Though I must say after much spiritual exploration, I found the teachings of Shri Atmananda Krishna Menon to also be very powerful. Recommended reading : Notes on Spiritual Discourses Sister Samaneri, it would be a blessing if we could hear Atmananda's words in your voice. (I did find just one). Lots of love to you.

@@ivettea6358 , I read the book years ago in the beginning of my awakening and contemplation...but it was difficult to follow.. It was a direct path to see clearer but I was still too lost to see the magnificence of it. Many events and drama had to take place instead for me to dig deeper into the light. A lot of baggage had to be thrown away for the purity to expand...even though it is always there. Thanks for sharing🙏🦋

@@KamranZParacha I like your honesty, many play it soooo cool. It's natural to "lose it again" it's part of the dynamic until you let go of attachments, fears, habit . NOT EASY . But eventually one realizes it's actually NOT LOST but just receded to the background. When ones attention has to be on the surface and involved in all manner of things then it SEEMS LOST ,definitely. BUT it's just underneath the surface. Lost in thought it seems gone . Especially BEING So subtle. But one can't truly lose oneself, the thought "it's gone" "I only feel sense pain" etc is a real experience but yet only thought interpretation of other thoughts or sense experience, the self doesn't care as it is Always there ,but underneath, and actually the illusions are the creative play of "shakti" the source "shiva"

This one is confusing to me, or my ego at least. I feel resistance in accepting in order to be free we need to stop seeking personal attainment. What about making a living? If I favor the concept that I am not the body and not separate but I haven't experienced that yet how do I get there (although there is nowhere to get)? How do I see through this illusion?

  • @SamaneriJayasara

Sure, make a living without ego or conceit as much as possible - or at least be aware when it arises, which it will. That's all. We are not fully free from the ego (which is merely a delusory phantom) until we are totally liberated so we learn just to be aware of it, with clarity, understanding and a non-judgmental frame of mind. We 'get there' in the end, even though there is nowhere to get and no one to arrive. Nidargadatta worked in his little beedie shop in India as he needed to make a living - working, practising, and letting go. No big deal.

the ego is there and will never leave but you are not the ego. the ego works automatically based on programming experiences... there is nobody doing anything. there is a presence behind the ego that is independent of the ego: that's what nisargadatta calls the 'i am feeling'. find it and stick to it that's all you have to do really. once you sink deeply in it you will get to the absolute state. don't try t conceptualize that state it's beyond all concepts. in fact nothing can be said about it. it's the end of all seeking!

  • @roblaccitello3140

Just to add to this, when you refer to yourself, there’s an awareness, even if it’s not realized. That awareness is the “I am” feeling that every sentient being has- this statement “all sentient beings” is used often because to be sentient implies impulses, reactivity, basically biology. “You” (your ego) is the sum total of the specific body impulses, that’s all. The “real you” (even this isn’t completely accurate) is what is aware of this. It’s a condensed separate awareness, part of the whole. Similar to how the sun can reflect in 1,000 pots of water all the same. The “I am” is the reflecting of the sun, which all pots share. The real source is beyond the pot, and therefore beyond the body. The mind is the rippling of the water within each pot, moved according to the conditions effecting it as such. 🙏
