this is really really amazing talk Nir. The thought stuck to my mind on the tickboxing stuff is you are harshly treating you as if it is a punishment to complete all the to do list. So for eg I gave this to-do list to my son and he struggled to focus and complete them but by the end of the day he is so disappointed for not completing them but on the other hand if it is time based focus then i think it is nicer way of encouraging to improve focus time. Also, there is no way you can stop the time to pass on so obviously he meets that and feels as successful but over a period of time if the focus improves then it is 'Platinum'.

I L🧡ve the extremely helpful suggestion, explanations, and examples of a "time~box calendar"!! Did anyone else realize, that (as of Sept 2023) a lot of you tube videos now resemble advertisements in that they now tell you, "There's a lot more in the book!" While that has almost certainly always been the case, (that there is more info/ideas/etc. in their book), it strikes me that it's a slippery slope and soon "content" may be greatly reduced and sales pitches may be ad nauseum. On the other hand, if we want to receive info via the Internet, this is a viable way to pay creators that doesn't create blockages and tiers like paywalls and patreon do, ...i mean to buy their book is actually a great way to help pay for the help and a great way to support a writer/thinker/artist/etc... that you want more from! I think making a one~time donation should be made available and super easy, too.

When it comes to grief, distraction is not unhealthy. Grief is processed in ad many ways as there are grievers.

I liked some of these insights, but what if you have an attention deficit disorder and have actual legitimate reasons to blame these distractions from happening? This is what i struggle with most. I think to myself “I’m born this way so it’s out of my control if I get distracted or not”.

Got it. The example is when bones are broken some traction is used to set that right. Therefore similar approach is required to avoid distractions.

Controlling your attention by handing control over your attention over to a different app than the ones that usually control your attention. Genius marketing. But I rather want those 15 minutes of my life back I wasted on this distraction. Yeah, I knew about that part before I even reached it, in fact I knew about it the moment the host mentioned how he makes his money. Don't let them lie to you. It's the technology that is robbing you your time, it's designed to do just that.

Totally useless! Some silly techniques to solve a really deep and complicated problem! Do you think if I put on a silly hat, I will be Mr.focus? You are dealing with the most superficial aspect of focus, If I become a really concentrated person, I would not need an App to block other apps! Your techniques maybe worked only for you

Absolutely Wrong. The techniques are not evidence-based. Can he bring anyone to prove that people who have had problems with distraction learned to focus through his techniques.? Suppose a person is having a panic attack, or going through severe depression. Writing the distraction means writing down the misery and depressive thoughts. Writing such thoughts will make things a lot worse for someone who is strugling with such issues. We must not advertise such advice, it can be extremely dangerous. Modern clinical psychology proves that the best solution to avoid distraction is mindfulness. One who is a mindfulness expert will never be distracted by distractive thoughts. The benefits of Mindfulness to avoid distractions are proven by modern research. J. Mark G. Williams, is Emeritus Professor of Clinical Psychology and Honorary Senior Research Fellow at the University of Oxford Department of Psychiatry. He has proven through his books that mindfulness can help anyone to focus attention to the current task.

Writing down what you are anxious about as a way of getting it out of your mind and to schedule time to deal with it later has been scientifically tested and shown to be more effective than no intervention. Also a technique from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy is to name and categorize your upsetting thoughts and feelings, as a way of getting less frightened by them. So I'm skeptical that just writing down depressive thoughts is dangerous - unless you start dwelling on them. In any case - if one is dealing with severe mental health issues it is best handled with guidance from a professional.

Writing things down is based on ACT which is a modality of therapy for decreasing compulsions or whatever. This book is not going to treat depression.
