This car is a masterpiece in design. They haven't compromised too much in terms of practicality. As a European and a car-enthousiast I would probably choose this over the German legacy. I like that they went minimalistic, but didn't go too far like Tesla. Like some others have said this company might become a case-study in the future as being the first internationally recognized "premium" Chinese brand.

Yeah because it's not like electricity prices somehow follow the price of oil and gas does it. At certain times of day right now, where i live, the price of electricity is so high that it is actually more expensive per kilometer than a diesel car, even with the diesel also being more expensive. Offcourse it is cheaper at night but we have had nights where electricity was also very high because of no wind, and offcoruse no solar power, so if you have a car that you must charge every day, it can be very expensive to buy electricity today for your EV as well.

@@esm7708 It's a socialist country, the politicians love taking people's money, and redistributing them so that their own voters gets the most, and has to pay the least. But yes, under normal circumstances the price for a KWh is made up of. 25% Actual electricity price 75% State tax on electricity. It's the same with fuel...About 60% of the price of a liter of petrol is taxes, so if the price of a liter of petrol goes up 10 US cents, the pump price will increast with 25 cents. So while gas prices gets higher and higher, the state makes more money as well as the ones selling the oil. Also for example when electricity prices are higher the state makes more money, because they have a support for wind and solar....Basically they are promised a minimum price for their electricity, so if the sale price is lower, the state funds the difference, but now, electricity prices are high, so they make more money on the tax i pay, AND they save money, because they dont have to pay the windmill and solar owners any money because they get more than the minimum for their electricity right now. It IS really a win-win for the state...And we, the consumers are being taken royally up the behind. But as said...it's expensive to pamper ones voters, so they need all the money they can to "buy" them. An example of that...When they decided that they did actually want to help people that were the victim of very high prices on natural gas, for heating their house, they decided that only the poor would be helped a bit..In reality that means that those who pay the least taxes now get the most money from the government, which is essentially raising my tax percentage compared to the socalled poor people.

China have been breaking all sorts of barriers in EV development. They have been so progressive in creating new vehicles at every end of the market that I believe they will be the key to a global revolution in EV ownership. Many legacy companies are still making compliance and compromise EVs. Some companies are focussing on particular markets. EV only companies are pushing vehicles in particular consumer slots. But, as a joined up strategy, China is far ahead of everyone as they are tackling every level of EV distribution. They are rolling out public transport vehicles, performance vehicles, cheap vehicles, luxury vehicles, city vehicles, utility vehicles and mostly at prices that can be rivalled by few others - certainly not legacy companies. They also lead on infrastructure. And all this against the background of them also pushing out lots of old tech. Just about anywhere else in the world if you see fossil tech being promoted you'll see renewable tech being hampered. But China on the whole seems to be pressing forward with renewable tech regardless of opposing concerns. Once China start rolling out their product to the West the legacy manufacturers in particular are going to have to up their game or leave the field.

I agree, but i dont think that it is only BMW, Audi and Mercedes that should be worried. I mean, this car makes the Tesla's look really old and outdated. Honestly if Tesla is not going to be run over by the Chinese in every category, they will have to something to the dated design of their current models. Once you could forgive the way Tesla's looked, because it was what made people recognise them as Tesla's but now there is just so many cars that looks way more modern than the Tesla. Tesla's only redeeming feature is their "self drive" stuff, but honestly, their lead on that field is diminishing for every day that goes by, and their FSD which they have sold lots of cars with the promise for this in the future, is still not anywhere near completion. I would not be surprised if the Chinese are going to overtake Tesla, even in that field.

@@johdo9953 According to a study, NIO was rated top automaker in China. To quote an article, "The vehicle quality study calculates the number of failures per 100 new vehicles. The industry average is 135.Nio scored 49 failures per 100 vehicles - the lowest for any car brand in China and much lower than the industry average. A lower score implies a higher ranking for the brand." Now, who knows how much truth is behind this particular study, but if it's true, then that is one of many other indicators the kind of potential NIO could have. Is it all advertising and marketing? I don't believe so. A healthy dose of skepticism is not bad practice though.

@@LovesHighGround How do you know the study is not paid by the advertiser or NIO itself? To be fair, it's a nice car, but I would not count on one person or a channel saying it's better than most (German) cars. Like Tesla, it will show up on the sales number down the road. Tesla wasn't liked or recognized by everyone when it built the first roadster before the model S. Similar to Toyota, it took a long time to build the brand before it launched the Lexus brand. It will be a long uphill battle before NIO can find a spot outside China. The sales number outside China is going to be very insignificant for quite some time.

(May 26, 2022) Today, a team in China has done some tests on et7. Energy consumption: the average speed is 95 km / h, and the consumption is 18.1kw · h. model s is 17.3kw · H Perceptual recognition: at the speed of 7km / h, stationary vehicles with a distance of 192 meters can be recognized during the day and 194 meters at night. Model 3 under the same test conditions, stationary vehicles with a distance of 88 meters can be recognized during the day, vehicles with a distance of 53 meters can only be recognized by using close-range lights at night, and stationary vehicles with a distance of 88 meters can be recognized by using long-range lights Note: the driver's display of et7 only displays targets within 200 meters. Even if the lidar can recognize targets more than 200 meters, they will not be displayed on the display. Surprise 1: at night, smoke is set behind stationary vehicles. Et7 can recognize stationary vehicles with a distance of 187 meters. Model 3 can only recognize 22 meters of stationary vehicles. Surprise 2: at night, the vehicle headlights are sealed with adhesive tape without any lights. Et7 can rely on lidar to drive forward at 30km / h until it stops about 3M away from the vehicle in front. (Note: the test speed of 30km / h is set in consideration of the driver's safety. Without lights, the driver can't see the vehicle in front.)

In the big cities, it is faster to walk than drive a car, any kind of hard launch or speeding over 50% above the speeding limit turns you into a pedestrian for a year. As with all sedans, I wish it were a wagon. Volkswagen doesn't even the Passat in other styles than the wagon. It's what people NEED if they don't have multiple cars in the household. My neighborhood is full of wagons. What are my neighbors to buy next? Not an EV as those come only in "expensive" or "cramped".

Thanks again Elliot( my favorite fully charged reporter) great presentation on a great car. I certainly don't need all the extra stuff, but I doubt they are trying to sell to me. By the time it gets to the US the extra taxes will be ridiculous. Beautiful car.

I hope it's sold in the US. It has "Chinese spy equipment" that the US government probably doesn't like. A big US company (like Apple) should buy 51% of NIO so it's considered an American company.

I do like that the Chinese are trying to establish their own design language. Most of the cars you see out of China have very obvious inspirations from other brands. Nothing wrong with that of course, but if you want to go premium you can't make another copy.

Cargo space is the real down point, because you also can't fold the rear seats. It a very good executive salon car though, but in Europe people like their 5 series and A6 in wagon form as well for a true versatile car. Can only hope NIO considers a ET7 or ET5 in wagon form, then it would be perfect.

There is one important feature not mentioned: NIO's cars can replace the battery, and the battery is automatically replaced within 5 minutes without getting out of the car. What's even cooler is that NIO supports the replacement of batteries of different capacities, which means that you can upgrade your battery at any time after buying a car, and support flexible upgrades by day, month, and year. The flexible upgrade means that you choose to buy the model with the smallest battery life, because even the smallest battery life is enough for your daily commute to get off work. Then you can temporarily upgrade your battery capacity for holiday travel (billed by the day), and after the holiday is over, you don't need to continue paying rent when you switch back to a small battery. Come to think of it, the battery supports physical replacement, meaning: 1. Faster charging speed, get a fully charged battery in 5 minutes 2. Flexible battery capacity strategy, you can temporarily upgrade the battery before going on a high-speed trip. It also only takes 5 minutes, no appointment required 3. There is no need to worry about the attenuation of the battery. The battery replacement network ensures the health of the battery. 4. Older vehicles can still enjoy battery packs with the latest technology. The vehicles released by NIO in 2018 can still be replaced with the latest and largest capacity batteries! Think about Tesla in the same period in 2018, it can replace the 150-degree battery in 2023, and the battery life is close to 1000km, how crazy!
