A few weeks ago Elliot had a go in the Wuling Mini, the cheapest EV currently available. Today he will be driving not only the most expensive EV ever built, but also the fastest.
The EP9 (Electric Prototype 9) was actually the first car Nio built several years ago but unlike the ES8, the ET7 and the ES6 that we have featured on the channel, this car is not road legal. This electric supercar has set the records for the fastest lap of an electric vehicle at several global racing tracks.
This car was designed from the inside out and the interior, like the exterior and chassis, is made entirely of carbon fiber. The two side batteries can be swapped in just 8 minutes which is pretty handy for an electric racing car!
But how will Elliot get on when he takes this jet fighter of a car out on the track?

Hurray for Elliot - watching him is like I'm there myself. I have nothing in common with motoring journalists but I can relate to Elliot.
Butterfly doors. 1 mega watt is 1 million watts, aka 1000KW. Impressive cars just for the track, Elliott was obviously a little excited/nervous about driving this beast. 👍😁

Still amazes me that Ferrari and even Porsche (911) are saying that the sound of the V6/8/10/12 is the only thing that sets them aside from their competitors so they are sticking with ICE until the end. Really ? Clearly the future is going to be with companies like Nio and Rimac who are just getting on with it and turning out amazing cars that are going to be aspirational to the next generation.

incredible!
What a car 👍🏻
Well… I'm sure racing aficionados are drooling over this episode. Elliot's heart must have been racing as fast as the EP9! I'll never drive it for sure, as I can't handle high Gs -in any car, even my own Tesla- without feeling faint and nauseous. I bet Tesla is imitating the steering on these rocket ships to make its whiz-bang models appear to have a racetrack heritage. Kind of an over-the-top gimmick, though, since lock-to-lock motion on racing yokes is ~400° -not the ~1200° that production cars need on everyday roads and highways.
Sounds sick for a EV.

I’m sure it’s km/h. Electric motors are just not so powerful at high speed, and it’s eco mode 😁.
It is very very cool that you got access to do that!! I *am* gonna call BS on the claim that this car in 400hp mode is only one second slower per lap that this car in 1360hp mode. That's literally an extra LaFerrari more power.
@logicalChimp
2 жыл бұрын
Think he said 'couple of seconds' slower... and that could be right, given that really big power is only required to top speed on really long straights... at lower speeds, limiting factor on acceleration is grip, not power, so once you have enough power to exceed grip, extra power doesn't make so much difference.
@eltzrothm1

@MrAdopado
2 жыл бұрын
Could be correct in the sense that with him driving it might be only that difference because there is no way he would be able to use the extra performance. For example most average drivers would be quicker in a fast road car than they would be in a Formula 1 car ... because they are unlikely to even complete a lap without spinning off in the F1 car!

@@udishomer5852 I bought a used 2016 Kia Soul EV+ last year for about $13000 in perfect condition, less than 18,000 miles on it and only one owner. It is everything I hoped it would be and more. Best car I have ever owned, new or used. Costs me less than $3 to "fill it up", has zero maintenance, is super smooth and quiet and just works. In the year that I've had it I've only needed to charge it outside of my house 5 or 6 times and never had a single problem finding a charger. This is in Central Florida, so may not be the same everywhere. Nissan has just released the new 2022 Nissan Leaf at $27,400 before incentives which could put it under $20,000 with the federal tax break, and Chevy priced the 2022 Chevy Bolt at $31000 with 259 miles of range before any incentives. What needs to happen is that the price needs to get at least under $25,000 _without_ any incentives for a car with at least 200 miles of range (the Leaf mentioned above is around 120 miles). We're finally heading in that direction but it's going to take a year or two more before it really happens across the board, though Nissan has come the closest so far.
I am sure this video will be popular. But, I was honestly more intrigued by the Wuling.

Strange...unless I am missing something, the Tesla family sedan, a Model S Plaid, does 0-60 (0-~100km/h) in less than 2 seconds while the EP9 lumbers along at 2.7 seconds (per NIO) and the EP9 costs about 7 times more than Model S Plaid. Would have been nice if Elliott had provided more technical details, compared the EP9 to other vehicles, and explained the classes of high-end ev's which have recently emerged.
Eliot needs to hold up on the superlatives. The NIO EP9 is a long, long way from being the "most expensive" EV, and it's not the fastest, either. See the Rimac Nevera for an example of something that is both more expensive, faster and quicker. And is street legal. Also, those are NOT "gull wing" doors, they are butterfly doors. Don't get me wrong, it's a great car. Just please do a little research.
