Still a great bike.It just got a cosmetic upgrade 1 month ago. you can check it out in my pictures on flickr: www.flickr.com/photos/ottospeed/ The 125 CRs run great with a 38mm carburetor, Mototassinari or Boyesen reedblock, slightly hiher compression (0,1mm is enough), FMF is a good exhaust although the italian Messico or italian Tomasin are still better.

Hi, I had a few questions concerning your bike: - Do you use the standard OEM crankshaft or is it a special aftermarket one with a higher inertia like for example the VHM's ones from the Dutch manufacturer? Is it also trued and balanced in some way with tighter specs on yours? - Did you port your cylinder or didn't you do anything with it? - Did you matchmake / blue-print your cases and inlet / intake? - Do you use ceramic ball bearings or just standard OEM's / SKF's? - Did you ever dynoed your engine? Or do you know HP numbers, that you're willing to share? - Do you use a special kind of treatment on all of your internal parts of the engine, like certain coatings, isotrophic, polishing,...? - Do you use a removalable dome inside your cylinder head? - What made you use an aftermarket exhaust pipe instead of for example one specially build for your engine specs. that was develloped on a dyno for max. useable / rideable torque and HP ? - Do you use a digital igniton with special CDI box? Or do you have a PVL / HPI inner-rotor? - Do you use a high-compression piston or standard? And are those domed-shaped or standard? - Did you have the gears cut-off of your gearbox or is this all standard? - What made you use an older "out-dated" carburettor instead of for example a Lectron or APT Smartcarb? Also is your carb flowed / tuned? - Do you use pump-gas / race gas or normal? - And which kind of motor / transmission / bottom & top end year combo are you running? - And do you run A-kit suspension like Öhlins ttx / SHOWA A-kit, / Sölva / WP cone-valve / ...? - And from which manufacturer is your carbon gastank, CRM? - And last question, what kind of clutch do you use, HINSON? PS: nice riding, your video made my day, you went all open on this one! =) I love the sound of that, she really sounds CRISP AF. Wished I had the money to build such an amazing machine and wished I had that kind of riding skills you have. Also the titanium bits and pieces with the carbon make me drool... So yummie. I'm only a weekend warrior rider on a Honda CR500AF and I must say you're living the dream man! Have a good one! Kind regards, Yuri

-stock crankshaft -Mugen cylinder with radical different port heights -i had to adapt the Mugen cylinder to make it fit onto the slightly wider 98/99 cases -stock bearings -i dynoed it once in 93 but in almost stock configuration. Now it's completely different. I don't give a lot on dyno numbers. Dyno is good to test various parts and see how they affect performance. To compare numbers with other dynos absolutely useless. All dynos are different. -no treatment inside -Mugen head without removable dome -i tried A LOT of different exhausts (i have 19 exhausts for my 5 125cc...) -stock '99 ignition -special Vertex piston with the same specs as the Mugen pistons had which is no more available. Same height as stock.Flat top. -stock '99, 5s transmission -The older PJ works best. I tried a PWK Air striker but had no gians. The PJ works better up top. -102 octane ARAL Pump gas (you can get it in Germany) -'99 bottom / '90 Mugen top-end -Italian Poletti suspension, factory-like! -CMT carbon gas tank -I have a Hinson in one of my bikes but it honestly doesn't feel any better than the PROX cnc basket paired to hard coated stock aluminium plates...this setup lasts forever and gives me awesome starts. Read about the build of my bike here: thumpertalk.com/forums/topic/993917-my-new-cr-125-afs-aluminium-framed-mugen-powered/ And have a look at my Flickr-Albums where you'll find a lot of good info as well: www.flickr.com/photos/ottospeed/albums

If it wasn't I would buy it in a hearth-beat but hey that makes it a lot more "trick"

Yeah-you observed it correct: my bike pulls up the very top and even further. It won't quit pulling and sometimes i feel bad for punishing the engine but it likes to be ridden up there...paired to my 1990 Mugen kit he italian Tomasin R&D exhaust is the trick as it added extra revs with a seemingly endless pull up top without giving up noticeably down low. It also doesn't hurt that i have slimmed the bike down over 8 kilos to the minimum weight for 125s....87,5 kilos! That's somewhere between 15-20 kilos (33-44 lbs) less than the 450s i raced against !

+Paul Hynes The only advice would be to try either a italian Messico or italian Tomasin R&D exhaust ! Both are superior to the FMF. A friend of mine also has a CR 144 and he too absolutely loved these pipes. So much he actually bought both of them to replace his previously used FMF ;) Both pipes add a healthy boost mid-top while keeping the low-mid. NO LOSS at all. But a insane power boost and overrev!

First and most important: it mounts a 1990 Mugen cylinder. Then there is some more that goes into it but that's the most dramatic gain on those HPP engines. For more on my bike maybe check my Flickr-Album here: www.flickr.com/photos/ottospeed/albums/72157632570549639

as you can see in the other album i changed around quite a bit . In the end i built myself a 125 that was superfast & super light (i managed to save well over 8 kilos!!). The advantage a 125 has is its weight so i really focused on that. In the end it rides like a bicycle and is really superfast as well... here's the final version of it: www.flickr.com/photos/ottospeed/albums/72157651715335275

Cosi in accelerazione e in staccata va piu forte ancora. Pero il motore Mugen é sempre quello del '90: 26 anni di vita ! Mai toccato la sua cromatura. Ê sempre quella originale che fin adesso ha fatto oltre 950 ore...

My engine is very powerful and pulls hard mid-top with awesome overrev...therefore i mounted longer gearing: 13/50 instead of the stock 13/51. Back in the day i even used 13/49 but at my age (52) i'm not able to carry that much speed in corners anymore as i did in the past. The longer gearing gets me awesome starts as you can see here against 450s !

NinoScale I have just one more question I did the 6 speed swap and it seems like it jumps gears is this because I’m possibly missing a washer \ shim from the old transmission

@@HOTSHOT-ls1bc well-missing parts for sure might be the reason.Maybe study the drawings on sites like Partzilla. Below is the one off the '97 6s....there you see all parts lined up. www.partzilla.com/catalog/honda/motorcycle/1997/cr125r-a/transmission

@@NinoScale one year later on my 05 cr125 did the Eric gorr 144 mid to top fixed the transmission and just threw a few thousand in the bike definitely prefer a well built cr125 over Yamaha and Ktm125 so far has been the best bike I’ve owned out of 5 surprisingly faster then my yz250(295) you should definitely consider the 05-07 motors verrrry strong with a few mods and the best handling bike yet I’m 5’11 130 would love to send you a picture anyway thanks for keeping me motivated to build mine like yours the pv mod was the best mod yet
