Nine Inch Nails "The Day The World Went Away (Quiet)"

Музыка

Never released footage from The Day The World Went Away music video. The song used is the (Quiet) version, the original version can be found on Nine Inch Nails' 1999 double album, The Fragile. A remix of the original version was featured in the Terminator Salvation trailer.
This video is slightly different from the original music video. I made a few edits and removed the out of place live footage. The video footage is from the 2002 DVD And All That Could Have Been.

+Fonso Duncan Dude, I know exactly what you mean. This is a strange story I know, but it's fucking true... One night, I ate accidentally ate twice the amount of psilocybin that I normally would have. I can't remember much, but what I do remember is that the lyrics to "Only" were playing in my head and when I got to the part where he sings "the tiniest little dot caught my eye and it turned out to be a scab", etc. I looked in the mirror and I looked exactly like Trent. Then I went through a hole in my wall and proceeded to have the most surreal experience on mushrooms I've ever had. Bottom line: Trent functions on a wavelength that I'm sure I tapped into that night and it's not of this planet...

What is it when a person who has everything going for them commits suicide? I've grappled with this for two years since a family member committed suicide and the lyrics remind me of this person in every detail. What really matters in life definitely isn't money, or materials....its much more than that. And his whole world going away left many other worlds empty. If anyone is grappling with suicide please know that I sincerely love you whoever you are.

..I've read rumors this song is possibly about Trent's grandmothers' passing, who he was very close with. I think this video is beautiful and artistic and portray's the mood perfectly. The close up shots of the flowers seem like they are portraying the flowers at her funeral. I love the artistic expression, because they look ugly and grimm in the video-which has always been more depressing to me when attending a funeral. Flowers are "suppose" to make you feel happy, cheerful, joyful when you view them, but when you feel so sad, they seem ugly, dead, and cold. I also really like the closeup's of Trent's face in black and white. 2:42 is my favorite part. Great job on the video, motorde, you nailed it.

Hopefully one day a 20th anniversary edition of The Fragile is released with all remixes and quiet versions on a third disc along with a DVD with 5.1 version of the album and videos. The whispering at the beginning of the song is pretty creepy, but I mean that in a good way. The building of the song in the start is great. The remix goes well with this video. Good job.

@@nothin245 I notice that, thanks so much for replying. He was one of the funniest and most compassionate person I knew, he always put a smile on the faces of friends and family. Unfortunately he was never able to get over a betrayal from a girl he loved and went to a dark place that secretly ate away at him for years, no one would have ever thought but the pain he held deep down eventually became too much for him and he took his own life. No matter what perception you have of someone, you never know what they may be going through.

This song is about the death of Trent's grandmother Clara, but it's more specifically about her funeral. Trent speaking about priest burying his grandmother/cremating her. On the outside, he looks calm and collected, knowing it's his job. But on the inside, it pains him to have to lay another one to rest. Years of these rituals has made his face plastic.. emotionless in front of death which has left him cold and grey. His mind forces him remain apathetic about having to put someone to rest infront of many loved ones, breaking down. The sweetest price the priest will have to pay? When he has to lay the entire world to rest and the whole world goes away. The song is dedicated The priest and his grandmother.. The person who was calm while everyone else was breaking down..

Or they're the kind of person whose record collection is just a bunch of liked vids on KZread... The ones that are advertised ridiculously on front of music like this. Reznor's music has been with me as a companion for over 20 years.... The mono-dimensional swill of banality that some people nod mindlessly to just baffles the almighty crap out of me. .

I have a dnd campaign that has been going on for nearly three years now. A lot has happened for the PCs and the world around them. The final battle is almost here, what they don't know is that Big Bad will win a temporary battle, and I'm planning on using this song as he literal will wipe everyone's memory of themselves and everything.

This version of the song reminds me of the sinking of the Titanic. Even the name explains it all because for me, I can imagine the 1,500 people who were left stranded on the ship during her final moments all feeling like it was literally the end of the world for them. The sad, slow, and meloncholy tune just fits perfectly.
