NIMBYism impacts housing & rents by those who lobby for mass immigration being insulated from its consequences.

And in the peak District the people who cause all the problems are rich people who are from London etc , but holiday houses or living houses and then object to anything being built or any useful changes like job infrastructure

So you're saying that they want to buy up all the houses to rent them out, and at the same time they don't want any builds or any new infrastructure? That's utterly contradicting.

I think NIMBYism is perfectly fine as long as it is in defence of nature. There is just one caveat: If NIMBYs are truly defending nature and not their own selfish interests (e.g. inflating the price of their own property) then they should bulldoze their own house and any other manmade structures on their property and restore the plot to it's natural state. They could still live there, of course - in a very small tent. Or better yet, sleep in a tree.

Yes, let’s pave over the countryside so we can allow more people to come into the country. You have to understand, we wouldn’t need to build so many houses if migration was lower

We still need houses 🏘️ for example my area in the peak District is impossible to live there without huge amounts of money and I was born there but have had to spend 25 years travelling and working just to have a chance to live in my own town without renting a bedsit at £1600 pcm

Good on you for outing yourself with a couple of classic NIMBY canards. But it’s indeed true that we need to fix both: net migration pumps the demand side of the equation, while NIMBYism strangles supply, resulting in spiking prices.

@@user-tq5fj6yy6t im not against house building at all - It’s the reason for doing it. If they want to rile against NIMBYS thats fine with me, but to not even talk about the Elephant in the room seems… strange.

‘The cause of most of Britains problems, and that is NIMBYism’ comes across a little one dimensional for a complex subject.

The greatest problem is economic hardship, caused primarily by extremely high property and rent prices (but also high utilities and commodity prices). All of these are driven by undersupply which is caused by NIMBYISM preventing development of all the things we need.

Aye... i don't want 1000 house estates in a beautiful village... wonder why?. We wouldnt have a need for these if we didnt let millions in every year

OK let's say we get rid of NIMBYism, what's the point of buying a house in England if by the time my newborn leaves school the English have been rendered a minority there, (as has happened to millions of English in our largest cities)?

I subscribed to the channel because I thought it would have genuine expert economic insight and evaluation. Instead we get a grossly reductionist, oversimplistic, foreign perspective opinion with no data to back it up. The housing and infrastructure crisis in the UK is complex both at the macro and micro economic level in a rapidly changing world and to reduce the argument to a stereotypic mindset is ignorant and insulting at best. Unsubscribed.

Yeah yeah. Blame the workers for stopping developers. Totally ignore the massive increase in migration and the obvious correlation with house prices. Bring in millions of foreign loow skilled, ill fitting workers, have the native workers pay for their social welfare, have your developer chums sit on the land which they bought until land prices increase before building anything.

Migrants are workers too. It’s rich people, who the people who run this channel work for, who buy up all the housing to generate profits, making it impossible for workers to buy up housing at affordable prices. Don’t blame other workers, look to the top.
