It's a Celestron StarSense Explorer DX 130AZ. If you are specifically looking for good astrophotography telescopes, I would do some searching first, as this one is more for looking through, and can have more issues with focusing than some other telescopes that are specifically made for that purpose. Generally, they have equatorial mounts so you can do longer exposures, as well as the ability to add motors to move them at the rate of the earth's rotation.

Focus has definitely been an issue, I haven't really been satisfied with any shots so far, but I'm not sure if I'm getting it steady. It looks pretty decent through the viewfinder, but it still takes long exposures and is not very magnified. I also want to try some extension tubes so I can get a viewfinder in the path of light to help magnify it a bit.

The Nikon P1000 doesn't have a removable lens, so there is no way to use the F-mount T-Ring I show in the video. There may be adapters that go from a 77mm filter down to a T-ring size, but I'd be hesitant to use them on a P1000 because it would put so much weight on the lens mechanics when you mounted the camera to the telescope. You might try putting your camera on a tripod, removing the eyepiece, and see if you can line them up in such a way as to get the camera to focus. I think it could be challenging, but good luck!

The Z7 uses the new Z mount, so you'd need to use a Z->F mount converter to use the pieces I show, or find a t-adapter for the Z mount. I found several on Amazon, I will add a link in the video description. Thanks for subscribing!

For some moon photos, I used 1/250 shutter speed, 5000 ISO. Your camera needs to be on manual mode so it will take pictures without a lens attached, because the telescope adapters do not provide any information to the camera.

Hey mate can i use the same thing with the Celestron LCM 60? And is there any way i can mount my dslr with its 200mm lens on the mount that comes with the Celestron telescopes. Thanks

What I demonstrate here should work on that telescope, my only concern would be the additional weight from the camera, and if the motor would be strong enough for it. That's a great question about using a telescope mount as a tripod for your camera, I've never looked for that before, but here's one I found on Amazon. Unfortunately it's out of stock at the moment: amzn.to/3kBydZP Seems like a great idea if you have a computerized mount!

Yes, and you can unscrew the front adapter to remove it completely as well. Getting it in focus is always the challenge though, so you may have to try different magnification lenses to see what works for your telescope.

@@Redwing2510 I was referring to the Barlow lens on the front of the adapter I link to. Some telescopes require it to get any sort of focus though, so removing it isn't always an option. In general though, you can't change magnification very easily. Taking pictures through the eyepiece requires a different adapter, I need to make a video on that, but I've had limited success with it, so I haven't wanted to promote it too much.

Yes, as long as the eyepiece is 1.25". You will have to be careful with how it's attached, make sure you get all the screws tightened, otherwise your camera could fall!

It's a Celestron StarSense Explorer DX 130AZ. It's pretty nice, and let's you see quite a bit even with the eyepieces it comes with. The camera configuration I use in the video doesn't amplify things as much as the eyepieces do, but it's been pretty nice for viewing planets, and was great in Colorado!

Luke is right, This is a very decent scope for viewing as well as astro photography, I have the same, and have not been disappointed yet.

I should no need used Barlow but have try mirror have upgraded use screw 2” inch did saw KZread and you have use adapter ring on the focus are better need focuser nearly bit when are good moon no problem

Maybe stupid question,, but after putting on adapters,, do you use focus ring to focus (how do you see your focusing efforts before you even decide to snap a photo) through the nikon eyepiece itself or the LCD screen. Think I just saw an answer from someone below , thx for letting me know Full Manual Mode, Use Live View. from Grumpy Dad" if that sounds about right.

Yes, you use the focus adjuster on the telescope, like you would for an eyepiece. I look through the camera viewfinder, or use LiveView, and try to get it in focus before snapping the picture. I just posted a video about collimating (aka aligning) your telescope to get sharper results, it actually made a big difference!

Very useful. Thanks for the simple explanation. The final bit I am missing is how to connect to the eye pieces I have already to get better magnification, for say, planet astrophotography? Have you done this?

Yes, I'm actually planning on showing how those work in an upcoming video! I've seen them called extension tubes, or camera adapters, and I got one a couple months ago, but haven't learned enough to feel confident to share what I know yet. Hopefully soon!

Well with a big telescope and a barlow lens the magnification is already super big. Planet photos are the only thing you can take, and close ups on the moon :) I want to photograph nebulas, and I can mount my camera like shown in the video but that gives way too much magnification. If you remove the barlow though you won't be able to focus with a DSLR on newtonian telescope because of the optic design :/

@@TeamGamingSWE I just searched for barlow reducer and companies do make them. It also showed field flatteners that have a 20% reduction. This is new to me too.

Can you share some more details on focus settings and what mode the DSLR should be on. I have all the equipment's for my Cannon DSLR (T-ring, T-ring adaptor, barlow lens) but am unable to get a clear picture even after adjusting the focus of the telescope (celestron explorer)

Full Manual Mode. Use Live View. Use the focuser on the telescope to obtain focus, though some scopes are unable to obtain prime focus due to focuser extending too far in to the tube. Make sure ISO is down fairly low to cut out noise. Shutter speed depends what you're photographing stars require far longer than the moon which is extra bright. Expose for too long though and you'll get star trail movement. It's all about experimenting!

I am working on getting some more equipment that should improve focus. Nothing expensive, and if it works out, I'll share my findings. In fact, even if it doesn't, I may put together something just to share what I found.

Good video But.,.. I am confused. I am Familiar with an adapter where you place your camera plus camera lens in front of the telecope EYE piece to take a picture. But I never understood this technique which I think youi can it Prime focusing? And why would youi wanty to do prime focusing over the above terchnique? That my real question. I have a Celestron Next star 8 telescope. IO did tyake some Sun shots way back where I had an adfapter for me old Nikon Coolpix digital camera by placing it near the eyepiece of the telescope.

It's just another option. The method you describe is also good, I need to put together a video for it. Some telescopes are good for prime focusing, others don't really work well that way. And with eyepieces you can magnify your view more, so that plays a part in it. I'm not expert by any means, so take anything I say with that in mind.

I wonder if you could add a moon filter the barlow? 🤔

You definitely can, if you get the right kind!

Like your video. Just one small point: Barlows increase magnification, not amplification. Something that amplifies makes a signal stronger, not larger. A light amplifier would make the light brighter, not make the image larger. Does the lens on the Barlow adapter come off if you just want the normal magnification of your telescope focal length?

Great point, I conflated the two terms when they really are distinct, sorry about that. Yes, the lens portion unscrews if you don't want to use it. On this telescope, I couldn't get it to focus without the barlow lens, but on yours you may have better luck.

It should work for any telescope with a 1.25" eyepiece. I found that focusing without the barlow lens is impossible, so be sure to get the version that has that!

Your camera has to be set to full manual mode, and you have to adjust the shutter and iso settings. What do you have them set to? For some moon shots I did, it was 1/500 shutter, and ISO5000, but yours could be much different. Focusing could also be tough without the barlow, it really depends on the specific scope though.

I used barlow and yeah things came into focus but not exactly like i can see them through a 25mm lens without barlow, i am talking about Jupiter here. Where i am at Moon will not be above horizon in night for at least 3 more days. I am hoping to take good videos and pics of planets through the dslr

I attached my Nikon d3500 to my etx 125 Meade telescope. When I attach my camera, the camera does not allow me to go manual aperture setting. Also, the camera does not recognize the telescope and tells my I don’t have a lens inserted. Can you help me solve this

Since the adapters have no circuitry, you must set your camera to full Manual Mode (M). You can adjust shutter speed and ISO, but not aperture. You adjust focus by adjusting focus on the telescope, good luck!

It should! My Nikon is a DX, and it works on anything with a 1.25" eyepiece, at least using this method.

That's actually okay! Since there's no electronics in the T-Ring, your camera doesn't detect that a lens is attached. To use your camera that way, you'll need to switch it to Manual Mode. I think on your camera there is a little knob on top that will need to be set to "M."

From what I can tell, yes. The SV503 has a 1.25" eyepiece spot, and the D500 is a standard Nikon DSLR, so the adapters I mention in this video should work just fine.

Hi I’ve just tried using a Nikon camera with a spotting Scope I can see the image and focus no problem, but when I tried to take a picture I just get a white screen but yet I can take video no problem, must be something I’m doing wrong on the camera, any ideas ?

A white screen usually means that the exposure is too long, how long is your exposure? More than a second or two will result in noticeable movement in the stars. If you're ISO is really high, I could see that being a problem too.

That's actually what you should expect. The adapter ring doesn't have any electronics, so it can't automatically figure anything out. You'll need to set your camera to manual mode, and use the shutter speed and ISO to adjust the picture.

hello, after watching this video, I purchased a barlow lens (2X) and a T ring. After connecting it with my Celestron 130 EQ, my DSLR won't click a picture. I am depressed. Did I just waste $100? Can you please help?

Your camera needs to be in manual mode, with autofocus turned off. On Nikon cameras there is usually a switch on the camera to go between manual and auto focus. Try that, and if it still doesn't work, let me know what kind of camera you have and I'll see if I can be more specific.

Manual mode in both places? The dial on top should be set to M, and the focus selector on the lower right (when looking at the front of the camera). It has a small AF and M above it. Make sure it is set to M.

Okay, good, at least it is taking a picture. At this point, you will need to play with adjusting the ISO and shutter speed settings. A longer exposure, or higher ISO, should make your image brighter.

My Nikon camera still won’t let me take a photo because it says there is no lens in the camera, what would you suggest I do

Your camera has to be in manual mode, because as far as it can tell no lens is attached. You'll have to adjust shutter speed and ISO to change how the picture looks, since you can't adjust the aperture.

When I attach my Nikon D3100 DSLR to my Sky-Watcher Newtonian telescope, it starts to tilt and I'm struggling to take astrophotography with it, because it won't hold still. Please help

Great question, that's definitely a problem for a lot of people. I don't know if you've got it on a mount that you can tighten down, but that may be one option. Another might be to put the camera on a tripod so it has more support. You may need a ball mount or something to make it easier to position, I might have to do a video about this now!

You must have the camera in manual mode, because the lens adapter will not appear as a lens. You can look up the manual for your camera and search for the proper settings for non-Nikon lenses, which is what this configuration acts as.

This video only shows eyepiece projection. You can do better by just using prime focus with a 2 inch adaptor fitted to the T ring. I do it all the time with my 10 inch reflector.

I thought eyepiece projection was where there was an eyepiece between the camera and the telescope? In this case, the camera only has a barlow lens at the end of the adapter, but that can be removed. I wouldn't mind trying a 2" adapter though. Since this is a DX camera, and not full frame, I'm not sure if it would make a huge difference.

@@LukeofAllTrades. if you go to my screedy utube page,you will see the video I recently uploaded demonstrating what to use to get prime focus with a DSLR and a reflector telescope. Using a Barlow gives too much magnification to be able to fit the whole moon into frame. Most dobsonion users are frustrated by needing a Barlow to achieve focus. A Barlow makes star fields and nebulas too dull. Prime focus is best.

Could be. The "no lens attached" error is actually correct, since there's no lens with the fancy electrical connections on most modern lenses. It should click if you get it lined up right.

Sorry, yes, should have mentioned it has to be on manual. You can still adjust the shutter and ISO, but not the aperture. More than a couple seconds exposure will probably cause a blur, good luck!

That wont work if your camera body interacts with the lens electronically. I have the Nikon Nicor series and the auto focus interacts electronically. If you don't have a compatible adapter, the electronics will show an error message & not work.

Most cameras will function, but you have to switch into Manual mode for the camera. You will then adjust the shutter and ISO manually. Focus also has to be adjusted manually.

My camera says 'no lense found' after connecting the ring and adapter. Any idea what I am might be doing wrong?

That's actually what you should expect, since the T-ring has no electronics to help the camera figure it out. You'll need to put your camera in Manual Mode, and set the shutter speed manually. There are a couple other comments on this video that you can look at for help.

I was just beginning to formulate my wording to you (greatful, I subscribed) because I have all the equipment but just now starting to learn to use it. I have a particular purpose. (To take a photo of something 311 miles away) then you made a statement. "Wash your hands and wear a mask" you seem very good hearted and intelligent, which is why I wanted to reach out to you. Please research for yourself the effects of wearing a mask for a healthy person and see if you want to stand by that. I am also willing to share what I've found but find it way more adhering for a person to do it themselves. Sent in love. I'm not tech savvy enough to send this privately. I intentionally stayed away from tech thinking I could go to my grave that way. I know now that is not possible. Hopefully this was long enough that only you would read it. I love Jesus and this is not an attack on you. Please forgive me if I offend.

Thanks for subscribing! I definitely am not an expert in healthcare, so please take any recommendations I make there with a grain of salt. The same goes for anything else I say, it's just my opinion and my experience, thank you for sharing your perspective in your comment.

My Nikon D7000 won't fire with that ring because it knows it's not an actual lens.

Yes, you will need to be in Manual Mode (M), and set your ISO and shutter speed manually. Good luck!

It's like you're reading my mind! I tend to ramble, so I've wanted to start scripting my videos more, that's why I haven't published anything for the last month or so. I knew I was an idiot, but it's always great to get confirmation I was right about being a babbling fool. Thanks for watching anyways though, I'm sure my videos are more tolerable if you watch at 1.75X or so!

Since it has 1.25" eyepieces, it should work like in the video. Focusing is the biggest challenge, I'm working on improving it myself, and may post another video if I find a way to get better results.
