    just bought a like new gently used t3i starter bundle online for $200. wow it is still an awesome camera in 2021. I want to shoot the moon and your video is very good information for first timers like myself trying to combine the dslr with a scope. this video doesn't overwhelm the newbie and the 3 options you showed helps us understand what accessory we are buying to attach camera correctly. good job keeping it informative and also simple .

    Photography advice for the novice1. Get the focus as close as possible then shoot at a high fstop (f22) This will help your focus 2. The noise in the pictures is more likely caused by his high ISO. See 10:30 mark. He is at ISO3200. For time exposures use ISO of 400. A few more minutes of the lens open won't hurt anything if it is secured to a tripod and give you a less noisy pic......Great video on the scope. Thx for your help.

    Great video, I am just getting into figuring out how to mount my camera onto my telescope but another thing I would recommend is using Aperture mode, it will judge the exposure length based on the light levels. You would have to play with it to see how it will work with what you are doing, but it works great for the other photography I am doing. Also i you kick the ISO back from 3200 to a more normal number like 400-800 the resulting images will be less noisy. You will still have a few stuck pixels (as you always get those) but it will result in cleaner images.

    Nice video. You were scaring me a bit with attaching the camera on the tele-extender tube. I'd suggest unscrewing the ring on the telescope first, attaching the camera to the tele-extender, and then re-attaching the whole thing to the scope. It just seems less likely to slip out of your hands.

    With the weight of the camera, will the telescope still track?

  • @ZacharyMathematica

    @ZacharyMathematica

    9 жыл бұрын

    While there's certainly some abnormal strain on the motors, the tracking is based on the actual movement of the arm, not just an applied voltage for an assumed weight, so tracking is as good as without the camera attached. There is some play with where you lock the telescope into the arm, I always try and push it a bit forward to help counterbalance it a bit. But to be perfectly honest, that's just to make me feel better.

I'm in a process of trying to capture Comet Lovejoy and was wondering, would it be recommendable to use the UV/IR filter with my Canon 60D? As I use this filter with a Philips Toucam SPC900NC for imaging planets ie Jupiter, Saturn.

    Another informative and helpful video Baltier. Thanks. Really liked the sunspot you could see alot of detail within the spot. It was not just simply a black smudge. Really hoping to see some DSO pictures or videos from you. I am close to deciding on whether to head down the DSLR route (I am using afocal at the moment) or going CCD with a Hyperstar, downside to the Hyperstar is it is very expensive when you factor in a CCD camera too. Oh and a laptop thown in as well!
