I use the D800 for still Animal Portraits, D3S and D4 for action Animal Portraits, D3S and D4 is preferred for Bird Shots, Macros Definitely the D800 and D600, Wide Angle the D7100, D700, and D4. The D300S and D3S for off-pressure experimental shooting. The D600 and D800 for Portraits Normal Light. Low light the D4 and the D3S. These are preferences. The sensors on the D800, D600, D4 and D7100 tend to need more care. I think the shutter mechs are nearly the same. As far as rendition of colors here's my favorites the D4, D700, D3S, D300S, D7100 then the D800, D600 although none of them seem to be matched by any other camera out there. Traded Sony's for Nikons. Sony did ok with a 90mm Tamron lens for macros. Pretty much the only pictures I was satisfied with except the beer can lens did produce satisfactory colors but still fell short compared to vintage Nikon lenses. Weirdest lenses that I love. The Nikon vintage 70-150 lense is fair on sharpness but always pleasantly surprises. Then the 70-300mm keeps me saying it shouldn't be able to do this. The 1st release of 80-400mm in skilled hands takes excellent wildlife shots but you must know your subject to use it effectively. It's a bargain under those conditions. The vintage 105mm and 135mm always produce great renditions with the 135mm being sharp. The vintage Perspective 35mm untouchable to this day. The Tokina 100mm is sharp but the colors and contrast just are hard to touch with the 105mm and especially the 135mm. The Nikon 85mm is a dream lens for me someday but I'm a budget photographer. $225.00 is the most I think I ever paid for any lense. The most on a camera is $450.00. I average $100.00 on lenses and $200 on cameras when I was purchasing my collection. I don't see a reason yet to upgrade to mirrorless. I just don't fancy the high pixel multi-image editing when my results are already very good. I am very content and competent enough to make these older units do any job required out on the market. I would only go mirrorless if I had a requirement for a job that only a mirrorless could do. Video is still questionable but I just don't see a need to go beyond what my cell phone and a good editor can do yet. If I need more in this area I just see video cams as the tool why mess around with a camera used for photography. That last statement is only preference.

I just bought a D3S from Japan and I'm in love. I bought a D1 used over 20 years ago and loved that camera but it suffered from old battery technology. I've been using a D200 lately and love that camera too, but Wow...Is this D3S nice! It's head over heals better than the D200. So happy. It's everything I wanted my first love my D1 to be...and way more. So nice to have that feel of a pro body again.

Oh- I just got a D800 on eBay and am so excited- I replaced my old D800 with a D750 and was missing the D800 afterwards. Its great that you have had it since 2013 and shoot at 6400 and can adjust the noise. Thank you for sharing all that!

If the D3 had a CCD sensor then I\d expect a bigger difference. But over KZread you wont see the D800 series extra resolution ... 🦘

@@clairesschoolofphotography1767 I haven’t tried the D800 yet, so I don’t know how different it feels to the D200. My D200 is a great camera, but wow, when I got my near mint D3S and looked through the huge viewfinder (compared to the D200) It was a magical experience. Just the feel of the D3 and the sound of the shutter take me to another level. I get excited every time I pick it up now.

Beautiful photos you took. I also have a d800, a great camera. I have the impression that it does not generate such sweet photos as the Z series. These are pleasant photos to the eye. What lenses do you use

I prefer my D3 coupled with my Tamron 150-600mm for sports, I mostly shoot my daughters trotting class, but it also comes in handy when the danish air force has its open house arrangements. I'm looking forward to attending it this year, to get some good shots of our new F-35 Lightning II. I took a few when we got the first one, and it made a lap around Denmark. But it was overcast and quite a dreary day, so the picture wasn't as good as I wanted it. But for landscapes, I prefer the D800, paired with my Nikon 28-80mm G, or a Tamron 70-210mm f/4 lens.

Echo most comments here - D800E for landscapes, travel vistas etc. low light, portraits etc I swing towards D3/D3s. Plenty of crossover though, I do like the d3 colour rendition more I think. 12mp is fine too got some huge framed prints that look awesome out of the D3. Both are legendary dslrs.

I'm afraid I'm not a fan of Nikon. I used a Sony bridge camera for my RPS panel just as digital was starting to destroy the film industry. It has a massive 8mp ! and some unique features such as infra-red mode for night shots and multi-laser focussing again for night and low light shooting. I still manage to get A3+ prints from it without pixelation. My 'carry everywhere' camera is my phone with it's 64mp ability!! But the best piece of kit I have when used in conjunction with the Sony or phone is Luminar Neo and Luminar AI. So I fully agree with your sentiments regarding this software. There are some better pro packages out there that are more sophisticated and require a degree in IT to master but if you want superb images and some nifty AI add-ons make use of 10% reduction. To get maximum control, invest in a good quality graphics pad as well. It will make masking etc so much more accurate.
