I've just ordered a D100 on a whim as I saw one for 41 GBP on my favourite used camera gear website. I am exited to play with it and immediately came to KZread to see what I'm in for. You enthusing about the CCD sensor has got me even more hyped up. Looking forward to seeing how it compares to the Fuji X-trans sensor on my XT-2. Will be dusting off my old Nikkors and trying to find a CF card that is compatible (I'm guessing it needs to be of similar vintage). Great to see such enthusiasm for solid, old and still useful gear.

Plus batteries are super cheap. The benefit to me with the d100 over the d200 etc is the higher ISOs look better in my opinion. The D100 takes a 8GB cf card greatly.

I've had a D70s since its introduction in 2005 and love the 6.1MP CCD sensor. Since I love the look of film images I decided a few months ago to buy a D80 for its "film like" 10MP CCD sensor. Nikon's older CCD-sensored DSLRs are the best game in town. BTW, I settled on the D80 instead of the D200 because the D80 takes readily available SD cards instead of the harder to find CF cards.

Instead of buying the D200 that I kind of wanted I ended up buying a d100, a D50, and a D40 to add to my Nikon DSLR from 20 years ago.... a kit D5000. Because I was mainly into outdoors and hiking and mountains a DSLR just didn't work out for me at that time but I'm a little nostalgic and I'm shooting everything from outdoor scenery to street photography with my Nikon lenses so I went ahead and subscribed to your channel. Something else about a D100 is that it has an early infrared blocking filter on the sensor which doesn't work very well. So fluffy white clouds look a bit different and you can get reasonably bright infrared pictures with a 720nm filter on the front of the lens. Focussing with an infrared filter is a bit difficult as there is no live view and you can't see anything with the filter on, but shooting lots and deleting the bad images costs nothing bar the time. I like CCD cameras. My favourite is probably my D80 as it does everything a D200 can do in a smaller package, although it will die from the built in fault eventually.

@@MrFordguy73 Yes that could be it. There is a plastic gear on the shutter or mirror mechanism that fails. Unfortunately it is probably not worth fixing as you can get a replacement D80 or D200 for under £100. The D200 doesn't do this but I prefer the smaller 80.

Nice video! The nostalgia is part of it, but the cameras of that era were really nice and a great bridge to either using more modern DSLR's and to use the film cameras that came right before it. I haven't shot the D100, but have D70's and D200's and others from the era just after I have a friend who wanted to get into film photography and I gave them a Nikon D70, and the only downside I could think of is that the D70 (or D100's) won't meter with the old AI/AI-S lenses, but other than that they are perfect cameras for someone who wants to start to do more serious photography!

The major minus with both the S5 Pro and the Nikon D200 is they won't work with Nikon non-DX lenses. I owned a Fuji S2 Pro first, and once I purchased a S5, began having issues with lens and camera communicating with each other to include when I purchased the Nikon D200. The S2 Pro works perfect with all of my non-DX lenses, which can be found on the used market at low to reasonable prices. Right ;-) and the 70 goes for less than 10 bucks lol BUT …. The D100 is in a different class for sure …. Hold them both , I just did… the 100 feels like a Mercedes… the 70 like a …. Toyota

MY GOODNESS ! I bought the D80 twice and it’s been faulty ? Error message ?! TWICE ! Imma give it a miss as I’ve been burned . Listen …. Side note…. Just got a FujiFilm XT-10 ….. it destroys all of my CCD DSLRs for vibes and usability , I’m obsessed …. But it was $400 and $300 for the lens :-(

If anything the d70 is better The d100 has the 10 zone matrix meter from the N80 and f100 The d70 has the 1005 pixel rgb meter that was introduced with the f5 The d100 shutter tops out at 1/4000 the d70 goes to 1/8000 D100 uses d-ttl d70 uses the newer i-ttl for flash... D-ttl has limits on flash compatability... Just a handful of nikon flashes and to my knowledge no third party support d-ttl D100 has few things over the d70... Some boosted iso modes if you want extreme noise and the screw thread on the shutter button for a cable release
