    The only difference between older cams and the new, are the lenses. Lenses and higher pixel count make the images sharper. Other than that, as far as colors and ability to capture great images, it’s the same and more importantly, it all depends on the photographer. 🥃🥃

    I have 3- D200's. They are great. They give me all of the classic features needed and none of the "Crutches" that people think they need. I love mine and don't see a need to downgrade to a new camera. I really wish more people would keep converting to mirrorless so I can get more stuff cheap, mainly a prime lens and maybe another body or 2... no magnesium in the new cameras, just a bunch of plastic.

    All Nikon products thus far have been great compared to other manufacturers. That said, when it comes to features and type of work at hand, I believe different cams with different features are required, thus I don’t think discarding any era of cameras then and now is wise.

    I wanted to get into photographing again, something I did in school when we could borrow equipment. I bought two defective D200's for 20 bucks a piece and one of them I just needed to fix the shutter on, with some tweezers. I kind of love it but it does have some show of age, but I think this will do me well in re-learning photo and teach me what I search in a upgrade later on. Got a adapter so I can use my grandmothers old Pentax K lenses and they work well! I think it's a good camera if you find it for cheap nowadays and you wanna to some art photography as a hobby.

I was very happy with the images I got from it and I'll probably buy another one, just to have since I still have the box for it. I used to call it the tank. That thing is solid and heavy. As far as computers go @rdcoff and apple, I would wait for one more generation or two. The reason is that apple just got into their chips and they are working out their kinks with software and incompatibilities with 3rd party. If you want to use FCPX then I understand you rushing into it. But if u can bare with premiere or Davinci Resolve, then I would go that route instead. For less than $1500 you can get a strong laptop or pc to do the work, and when apple is finally ready in a couple of years, then I would jump ship. That’s what I’m gonna do. Hope that helps, just got word from Nikon that once again, my Z6 motherboard will need replacement, and the D810 is still running solid! Go figure 😂🥃🥃

    Hello Edward, Thank you for writing. I'm looking into the matter of getting the software editors to yield ISO and white balance from the Nikon Z6/Ninja V output. Seems to me that only Final Cut Pro X, I guess can read the metadata, or some such thing. I'm a PC guy, and the Dell G7 looks interesting, and the price is not too bad. In my mind I'm looking at Mac Book Pros (not M1 Chips) and the Asus Zenbook Duo. Clearly these are a big jump in price. Again - What is the final word so far on the software side for those non-operating editing features (ISO, WB)? Really, I just want to build a solid PC and have laptop for lighter work, but...; never did video before in a serious way. I really did appreciate all the work you put into your shows..helped me a lot. Staying tuned. More to follow. Cheers, -Rob

    Hey Rob, so ProRes raw is still in the works all around but much better. If you want all the features unlocked, then FCPX is the way. Premiere only gives you exposure compensation for now. But, I have used ISO and WB on Mac with the Z6, and the WB does work, but there is no actual gain or improvement from using ISO. If you clip your footage, iso isn’t going to bring it back or take care of the footage noise. Nikon needs to put in some work still I would say for dual native iso implementation. If you capture the footage right, then it doesn’t matter which NLE you use. But the Mac, does seem to give you better color read out. Which I’m sure will always be the case since it is an apple coder. Hope that helped to make up your mind. 🥃🥃

  • @rdcoff

    @rdcoff

    3 жыл бұрын

    I'm thinking from what you said, for this Z6 camera, that the Apple solution makes the most sense for white balance and perhaps betters color in FCPX and that, really, forget about the ISO adjust in post as it won't help anything. Now, are those M1 chips good enough for editing 4K video? Also, there is the comparison with the slightly older Intel Apple machines that will be discontinued.. If I wanted to shoot N-Log exclusively, I'm presuming that still only FCPX would allow the white balance in post to work. Right? You know, if I locked the WB down first and got the exposure nailed with the Ninja, then the work around in Premiere and or Resolve would be fine. Guess that's what you're doing?

My newer Cameras(D800, D810, D850) cannot duplicate that regardless of how the Picture Control is set, nor can it be easily fixed in PP.
