Funny story ...I had finally decided to buy the Nikkor 50 mm ( all the hype about nifty-fifty etc ) and my wife told she would buy it for me for Christmas. When the box came it turned out she had mistakenly bought the Nikkor 35mm. So instead of getting annoyed at her , I decided to do some research to find out which was better. It turns out that the 35mm is actually perfect for my style of photography and since I have a D5600 body I'm still getting the "50mm look"......so I'm keeping it !! Thanks.
I have the same camera and I bought 35mm lense as my first prime lense. 35mm is more verstile than the 50mm lense as 50mm is usually great for portraits only. 35mm is good for portraits too but bokeh effect isnt as melted as 50mm but still good enough. Also 35mm is useful for street photography and landscapes as you can get more in the picture. Hit like if it has answered any of your question.

Do you mean the 35mm lens on the crop sensor bodies like the Nikon D3500? (since its still 50mm ish once u factor in the crop). But yeah i def agree! This 35mm lens is the way to go, the 50mm lens will be TOO cropped in once u add in the crop factor.
Solid review! Especially for a person new to this!

Great review! I think is really cool you used an "entry level" camera for the shots. It proves that good photographys dont come out only from pro cameras. And eventhough you say you are starting on photography, this video shows that you have done a lot of research on the subject and you know what you are talking about.

Very proper and in detail review and video for someone new to photography. I hope you are very successful in what you wish to accomplish with photography. You sound like someone proper and someone who does everything after a lot of research and after you are sure it is something you won't lie about. Well done.

I have recently got a D3100 camera and was deeply confused as to which prime lens to buy 35mm or 50mm. But now I am sure 35mm is what I need. It will help me to take sharp wide angle image and good closeup with the depth of field that I want for my blog. Thanks for the review and you are doing an excellent job as a new photographer!!:)

Great review and shots! I’ve watched many and this is by far the best. Your voice is also clear and soothing. I’m new to photography and have a Nikon D3500. 3 жыл бұрын
@@nevsa I absolutely love it! It takes the most beautiful pictures and the bokeh is stunning. This lens’s does all of the work. Only thing, you must be REALLY close to your subject. The 50mm gives you a little more distance from the subject, so I’m considering that one as well. You will not regret the purchase. It’s a must have.

@@sexualbutterfly well i was recommended to buy 35mm but also thought about 55mm. Its small difference in price as well. I mostly plan to use it for product and stock photography, so close up photos are must for me. Anyway tnx for feedback :)

+MrWebon I had the standard 18-55mm and the expensive 16-85mm. None of them I liked very much. Then a proffessional photographer told me to get the 35mm prime. I did and I can say it is by far the most sharp lens. It is so good its unbelievable that is costs so little. It transformed my photography.

+Steven Sampson Yes, if you don't mind. The quality is amazing.
Great review! I bought this lens but I've a question about the auto focus motor and his sound or noise, i mean when you are taking a picture can you hear the focus motor? mine has a noise and i don't know if is normal or there's a problem with the lens, and i have nothing to compare with. Thank you for the help.
Thanks for this review. Not sure if I missed this but does the 'silent wave focusing motor' truly auto-focus silently? I want to buy this for stills and video but hate the chirping sounds that can be picked up by the camera's mic whilst recording video with the kit lens. Please let me know if this is better, thanks!
a]] fx and dx lenses fit all cameras but you wont have auto focus on the older or current d series linses. nice video for a first timer.
Do you find the focus ring on this lens to be gritty at all? I have the lens and while the image quality is amazing, the focus ring is not as smooth as I'd like. I'm coming from Canon though I don't know if all Nikon lenses are like this
Does yours sound kinda rigid when you turn it like their is something in between the dial when you focus? What does the infinity logo mean on the 50mm lens?? Why do only some lens have a lock feature?
Man lovely review have a question I realized that this lens doesn't have VR so that means that the photos taken handheld will get will become blurry
For the money this is a great little lens. However Nikon should also make a 24mm 1.8 DX prime to go with this lens. In often shoot landscapes. So I like having a wider focal length to work with. I recently bought the new Nikkor 24 mm 1.8G ED. It absolutely blows my old 24mm 2.8D out of the water. It's such a sharp lens! You don't even need to enlarge the images to see the difference.
@StevenSampsonMedia
8 жыл бұрын
+Robert NES816 Absolutely agree with you!
Where were you shooting that day? It was beautiful.
Can you hear focusing motor in recording video? I have Nikon's 18-105mm (with D5300) and that noise can be very noticeable in video.
Thanks for taking the time to create this video. Now that you've had the lens for a while, how do you like it now? I have the 50 mm 1.4 G lens and I love it! So, if you're thinking about another lens, it's well worth it. I'm now thinking about getting this little gem. Thanks again.

Hey! Great video. May I make a question? Does Nikkor 35mm works with Metabones SpeedBooster on GH4?
Very nice video
Hey! thanks for the video! Im new to this as well and was looking at this lens for asto photography since the kitlens' focal ring does not stop at infinity. Does the nikon stop at infinity??
Thinkin about getting this lense for my d3200 also... would you recommend? and were all of these sample pics taken with the d3200?? thanks man loved the vid btw!
@StevenSampsonMedia
8 жыл бұрын
I'd recommend it for sure. All the pics were with the d3200. One thing I'd personally like to get it is a wider angle lens though
Two questions: 1)did you noticed a strange sound when focusing? 2)the focus ring has real stop points or you can rotate it to the infinite?

Fnaf Farts Animations Yeap
what lens did you use in this video
How would this compare to 85mm I have a crop sensor as well
What was the lens you were using at the beginning of the video? Was it the nikon 35mm?
Hi Steve, Iis this lens compatible with nikon D3400?. Thanks in advance.
This is a DX lens. So does it work as 52mm on D5600 or it works as 35mm only?
In your opinion, would the Nikon lens be great for creating KZread videos in my room?
Hi there, Steve! I really enjoyed your review. I also have the D3200 and want to buy the 35mm lens. I wonder what are your impressions now that one month or so has passed? What I am chiefly interested in is: do you hear the sound of the motor when it's focusing during a video (and if yes, do you think an external microphone will solve the problem?) and also how do you feel about the portraits this lens makes? Last, are you happy with the Nikon filter? Thanks a lot, DK
@StevenSampsonMedia
9 жыл бұрын
Now that it's been a month using the lens I actually really like it still. When shooting photos you have to be careful and choose the right aperture to get everything you want focused. When shooting video I have the focus set to manual so unwanted sounds aren't a problem. I definitely recommend using an external microphone that you plug into your smartphone or some sort of field recorder. Portraits have been awesome. As most people state it's true....with this lens you have to use your feet to get the shot you want but I've been super happy with the few portraits I've taken. The clear filter is awesome but I recommend a circular polarizer on Sunny days which helps reduce glare and increase contrast. Thanks for checking out my video!

Steven Sampson Have you tried the NC filter with the hood on? How does that reduce the glare?
so only in full frame body will multiply by 1.5 this lens? not in crop sensor body like your cam d3200 sir?
There is also one with same numbers but instead G at end stands D...which ine is better? I got D5500.. is it good for this body?
