NIKE ZOOM FLY 5 - LONG RUN SHOE REVIEW - SPECTACULAR ZOOM SCRAPS or TOTAL JUNK? - EDDBUD
Today I tested the NIKE ZOOM FLY 5 over a 10 mile or 16.1 km ish distance in some cooler summer conditions with around 14c temps.
Mainly easy running for the long slow session, with strides thrown in towards the end of the route.
I discuss the upper, midsole and outsole performance on what is a switch up to my typical and regular long run route in terms of distance, elevation and location.
This is a shoe that i have bought with my own cash and as such from the hip views and opinions.

Yeah "OK" is a solid description. I have used mine a fair bit now (considering they have only just come out) and I certainly have not "misunderstood" the weight since my first run. Part of my recent run was up a steep high and certainly felt it there but once on the flat again, I also got "bored" and pushed along a bit. Of course I can pick up the pace in any shoe I have and you don't need to have ZoomX on the side to do so. Agree the Speed 3 is more "fun" as well as 100g lighter in my size. On the plus side the ZF5 is very comfortable and I actually reached for it out of choice as had stubbed my little toe and was able to adapt the fit to stop it rubbing there too much. BTW if you get a chance consider reviewing the Endorphin Pro 3. I raced in it last night and the first time have done so in a non Nike "ZoomX" shoe for some years and I certainly felt the only real "disadvantage" was me not my shoes.

I got this shoe and it's great! I wouldn't have gotten it without your review. Thanks Edd! :)
I'm like the only guy in the universe who loves the ZF4 upper. In fact it's the upper that makes it such a great stable performer for long and tempo runs. When I heard about the ZF5 I bought another pair of ZF4. But now I have so many shoes it will probably be next year when I get the ZF5 on sale, so don't be surprised when I come back to this video in 2023! haha! Thanks for the review. Between you and FOD I'll still have this shoe on my list.

Just wanted to return to this video after a series of 25K and 35K runs. It’s a misunderstood shoe. It’s amazing for the long runs with more speed than the Invincible 2/3 for example. Feels like a great training partner and getting me ready for the Vaporfly 2 races

Excellent review that confirmed my "feeling" when I tried those shoes yesterday for the first time. From my point of view, as a "walker" who may happen to suddenly run so as not to miss the bus, I wonder if they can be like the Sketchers Max Road 5, which is a brick when you run to not to lose the bus. The best for that kind of run is (I tested it): the New Balance Fresh Foam More 3 and the Zoom Fly 4. What is your view?
@EDDBUD
Жыл бұрын
More 3 probably more flexible and comfortable than the rigid zoom fly.

zegama's are for quite long distance ( over 40 km ), goal is not to feel nimble, but to maintain the foot well, as well as offer good damping under the foot, hence the zoom x part. i did 10 km in some woods this morning with them and appreciated the synthesis they offer ( more reactive thant the wildhose, and more comfortable, very nice grip on different surfaces ... )
@Formerly-known-as-Steve
Жыл бұрын
@@vince207 I totally get that, over 40k is a long distance you don’t need the “quite” 😉 I’m not really the right sort of runner being mostly road and only up to half marathon distances on trails , running today they just didn’t feel massively different to the Trail 4 which is already cushioned and stable shoe. When I got them wet they held onto that water. (I could blame my thicker socks for part of that), my biggest complaint is short laces, Nike: give us enough lace to do a runners knot!
I noticed a strange suction effect due to the pocket in middle of the sole especially on flat surfaces. Today as it was raining the effect and noise was much stronger, not that it slows you down but it’s annoying. I made some research and did not find anyone having this issue.

the zoom fly 3 was the first zoom fly I bought and I went through the outsole in 200km!! So I have not bought any zoom fly since. For my long runs there is one shoe that beats all the other by far: Adidas Prime X😜 !!! Concidering the price it's hard to justify logging slow easy miles in this shoe but there is just nothing like it. I have 200km on the prime X at the moment and since I ran in it yesterday I will have to run in my More V3 today for some more easy miles. Bummer.

Its a shoe that got an "OK" the first weeks... after 6 months and around 350km in, I really - learned - to love this shoe. For me it has become a shoe that I pick for longer runs when I want to have a little more fun during the ride compared to my "boring" daily trainers. But it is definitely not a speed shoe or "racing shoe" as nike advert it. But ye, what can I say, I love it, I got it for around 70 bucks because b2b purchase and for that its a really nice shoe. But 160bucks... I would probably pass.

It’s an ok runner. Better than the next nature. Bit controlling perhaps
having issues looking for a good companion to my nike pegasus turbo next nature's currently have hoka bondi 8s and found them to be too clunky for longer distance think 5k and up and to sluggish for anyhing besides a recovery run, the nike pt nn's feel great up to 5k and possibly more but it's more of a tempo or sprinting shoe just hoping to find something with a bit more cushion but still in line with the feeling of the NIKE PT NNs. Currently stuck between the zoom fly 5, streak fly and the vomero 17 as daily trainers any suggestions ? longest runs usually being 10k with two tempos and a 5k throughout the week a recovery run is usually done on the weekends and will probably stick with the bondi 8s till I wear them out since they were pretty pricy at the time I grabbed them.

Bit rigid and clunky for that. Go for the peg 40 or Puma deviate instead.
I have mixed feeling about saying 10 miles is a long run (though I used to think that before I started doing weekly 20k+ runs)... but long is relative I suppose. In my experience, almost all the shoes I own could get there without no issues (except the Adios 6 tbh) but it's mostly after 18-21km that you really start feeling the difference that some pairs have on your legs.
