I grew up in poverty and let the dream go early that I'd never get a pair of Jordans or AF1. Finally, at 45 years young, I got both off the bucket list. Never stop dreaming, folks!

I'm old enough to remember when the AF1 came out. Only the Basketball team from my high school wore them. I thought they were the ugliest shoes ever, lol too clunky for me at the time. Legendary shoes though.

I will never forget the moment when I discovered AF1. Back then ( before 2014 ) the most popular sneakers were Air Max and Reebok Classic. I wanted something that was different and unique. So I draw some sketches of my Nike shoes and I imagined some mix between Air Max and skater shoes ( thick sole ). One day I wanted to buy Nike Alpha Baller shoes because I wanted to try some Hi Tops. And my friend who was with me that day, showed me the AF1 and said "Look at this! Try it! They look awesome!". As I looking at them, I realized that this shoes are the ones I've been searching for. The rest is history.

Random..but coach Bowerman genius is underrated. He was making his track runners drink a salt water concoction energy drink. Which is what Gatorade basically is today. And making those waffle soles experiments almost deleted him because of the toxic fumes in his garage. Nike would go on to create a patent free way to make sneakers that other competitor shoe companies can use so they don't harm themselves from the toxic fumes in the shoe making process.

Iconic sure, but far from perfect. They’re a low quality shoe with no sole structure, durability issues and scam-worthy materials. You can’t call a plastic shoe “leather” and expect Rose Anvil to not shit on your product, especially when they’re priced as much as a week’s worth of food for a 3 person family. Worst thing is the creasing and flaking. It’s like those idiots in the design labs forgot to add some strain relief sections in the toe box.

Why it Makes Billions... its only Marketing and FOMO ... nothing more. The Sneaker is not perfect it has garbage Quality to wear it for normal use expecialy today. They was designed for Basketball and nothing else. And even at the time of the AF1's release, other sneakers were more comfortable, more durable and more pleasant to wear for everyday use. Even within the Nike Brands. You don't say a shoe is the best just because so many people wear it and because there are so many co-operations. The main criterion remains the quality of the shoe and when I see how an AF1 looks after 12 months of wear, I can clearly say no, it's not.
