Anette did not stand up to Nightwish songs in concert, but her two cd's with Nightwish are the ones that stands out the most of how good of a songwriter Tuomas really is. If you whant to check out Anette, try Eva for example, she did sing most of the biggest ballads Nightwish has. Nice to learn something new, quicky boots...☺

juhis 1981 I agree. Although it took me a while to come around on Anette. I truly enjoyed the albums she was on but I hadn't gotten over Tarja yet. Floor became so good, it made me realize just how good Anette was also. Anette's voice is so sweet on the ears. Such a perfect fit for the music on those albums.

Rare to see such comments but I agree. Instrumentally Dark Passion Play is IMO their best album. I also like Anette's singing so that's not a problem for me either. Yeah, she's not as technical as Tarja or Floor and can't really sing Tarja's songs, but Tarja wouldn't be able to sing her songs either.

So many haters say Annette is only good for pop style singing. I say: SO WHAT? Tuomas ALWAYS stated Nightwish is a power metal band. Power metal is maybe one the most hybrid forms of metal, mixing styles across the globe: heavy metal, speed metal, classical, hard rock, but also pop-rock-ish and sometimes even something more exotic included. So on a power metal album I expect lighter or quieter, soothing ones that Annette is very suited for and adequate in the hardcore stuff - but not enough for a majority of "real" heavy metal fans. Growling or classic soprano she can try, but isn't her strength. Especially on stage.

From Tarja era I strongly recommend The Beauty Of The Beast CD Version. Was not in the decades show but still for me one of the best songs from that era.

That has to be one of the best, if not the best Tarja/Nightwish song.

There is one word to describe this epic song: FLAWLESS.

The whole song I was thinking, "This is SO Iron Maiden," then they end the song with "The Trooper" riff and I have to laugh!

Yeah, almost all Tarja's era reactions are from thic concert, because Nightwsh sucked in video recording their concerts. If they hadn't recorded this, much of Tarja's era would have been lost as much as Anette's. And Tarja's era was even longer. And it is sad because Tarja is best while singing classical fashion, and it was her first 3 albums she sang classical. Her last 2 albums they changed her style to contemporary singing. So we don't really have best of Tarja in this concert. Anette was NOT the worse singer for Nightwish in terms of albums produced. Both Dark Passion Play and Imaginarium are both albums of HIGh quality. Maybe you guys should listen to both albums from start to finish before passing such strong judgement on Annete's era. Tarja was my personally favourite era though, just saying.

Yeah, I've seen a "Misheard Lyrics" _Wishmaster_ video too. I just can't get over the fact that the people don't seem to have _ever_ heard Steven Seagal's name spoken out aloud - it's forvo.com/search/seagal/en/ (for *AUDIO,* click on the *blue* triangle), _not_ forvo.com/search/seagull/ - the joke _doesn't_ work! There are many *ingenious* Misheard Lyrics, like "excuse me while I kiss this guy", but "Seventh Seeker" => "Steven Seagull" is _not_ one of them. Anette is a very gifted artist. All of her albums are of high quality. In fact I believe Imaginarium is one of the finest metal album ever produced. Annette's issue was she couldn't hit the high notes on Tarja era songs. Try songs like Turn Loose the Mermaids or Scaretale and 7 Days of the Wolves and Annette's voice suits those songs for the creepy factor

Well... They had pretty much the exact same range. Problem was, it just didn't sound like it. Annette was mostly belting while Tarja is a classic bel canto singer, using operatic techniques with a lot of head voice. Head voice gives a whole lot more control over the voice and allows you to retain some 'body' to the tone even when you go up the octaves. When you're used to that sound, of course Annettes voice will *sound* thinner and weaker, but it's all a matter of technique.

Not really. They have the same vocal range. Her problem was that she uses completely different singing technique and color of voice than Tarja, for whom the songs were written to. Actually, the reason Floor is shining so brightly with Annette's first album, is that most of those songs were written for Tarja, that just had to be dumped down for Annette... and Floor could bring them to their full glory, taking best parts of both.

Anette can hit as high notes as Tarja. And 50 ignorant people up tumbed your comment which shows they don't knwo Anette at all. If KZread videos about singers' vocal arangers are to believe, Anette has the widest range of Nightwish singers, but all of them are pretty near identical. So Nightwish songs are not a problem to any of Nightwish female singers what comes to their range.

Check Meadows of Heaven by Nightwish. Anette sang that, and it's an amazing song. People diss Anette too much. Her tragedy was that she's not a competition to Tarja in the operatic singing, nor does she have the amazon power and wide range to adapt to different types of songs as Floor has. BUT that does make her bad or even mediocre. She's done well now with a new band. AND - there ARE some classics of Nightwish that Anette sang amazingly. Just make your own mind by listening, don't let the fanatic extremist fans narrow your view. Note: I'm a Finn - so the fanatics would expect me to diss Anette because she's Swedish. Finns and Swedes have a love-hate relationship (well, mostly in sports and other competitions - not so in music), much like Canada and USA - in which case the Finns would be Canada.

Ahhhhh a true classic...I unfortunately have a really bad memory associated with this song so I rarely listen to it, but it's still fantastic

Don't get mad XD When I fall in love with night wish I was really sad+mad a while about the change. More I loved more angry I got, it makes me searching the events, old news, the reasons from both side. You can do the same thing like I did, bc in the process of searching you will understand both side. They were both right and both wrong. I'm still dreaming one day I can see Tarja collaborate with nightwish again, but I know it's just a wish. I'm thankful the musics/songs they made, those are legendary.

It certainly is strange. It's also blatant that Tuomas chose the setlist to be as emotional and super-dramatic as possible, given what they were about to do. Every single one of those songs was played for a reason, and it gave their news maximum impact, rather than what Tarja wanted to do, which was to do another album and give them over a year's notice to find a new vocalist.

I see Pedro has a special intrest in female footwear. :)

They did know that was Probably going to be Tarja's final show with NIGHTWISH. She had already been talking about her solo career. She was expecting to help on some studio work for a compellation album. But Problems had started before this tour. The band normally locks itself in at a location for a month before each tour to rehearse the setlists for the tour with ONLY the band and select crew. Tarja showed up 2 weeks late With her husband/manager. There continued to be occasional problems with Tarja's husband throughout the tour despite them bowing to most of his demands. To Tarja's credit, she did her best to stay out of the issues. Then Tarja's husband/manager demanded Tarja earn a higher percentage of profits saying that without Tarja, NIGHTWISH would not be anywhere near as popular. Anyways, Tarja and the rest of NIGHTWISH knew this show MIGHT be her last with the band. It just hadn't been confirmed until right after the show.

In General , Dark Passion Play & Imaginaerum are top shelf albums despite their "lack" of great vocals. I personally prefer them, rather than Endless Forms most Beautiful

Anette is a great singer, you shouldn't disregard her. You have mentioned liking Abba, so Anette may appeal to that part of you...Maybe you could check her and Jani Liimatainen's (former Sonata Arctica) new project - the Dark Element. I'd recommend Dead to me or Ghost and the reaper. You might also like Dark Sarah, a great under-the-radar symphonic ,or better said , cinematic metal band from Finland. The singer is Heidi Parviainen (former Amberian Dawn). My favorites from them are Evil Roots ( feat Inga Scharf from Van Canto) or Aquarium (feat. Charlotte Wessels from Delain).

The sound on 90% of the Wembley show is horrible...it makes Floor's voice sound thin and lifeless. With the exception of one or two songs, I find it pretty much unlistenable.

Also, don't forget to check out some other Symphonic Metal bands besides Nightwish and Epica. Some other bands to check out include Therion, Xandria, Sirenia, Tristania, Edenbridge, etc.. One video in particular that I would recommend is Therion - Summernight City, as Therion are considered founders of Symphonic Metal, this is one of their bigger hits, and it is an ABBA cover, which I know you were wanting to introduce Antonio to them.

Anette is by many Nightwish fans considered as the worst singer, but honestly if you comparing someone with Tarja or Floor... ;) Still Imaginaerum is by far my favourite Nightwish album and Floor can sing those songs (well, she can sing anything) but I still love original versions with Anette. you should check some of them.

React to Planet Hell please. With this song there are lives with Tarja, Anette and Floor also. You should react to the three versions in one video, that would be awesome.

I actually think Nightwish really flourished with Anette - she was what Tuomas originally wanted the singer sound like, a light clear girl voice with power of storytelling and I think they made their best records thus far with her. I feel about the singers the same way I think Tuomas has described them, Tarja was a happy accident and her voice is the most unique and often sends shivers down my spine when she is at her best. However, she started struggling quite a bit with her voice around 2001 forwards because Tuomas started writing the kind of music he always wanted Nightwish to be - less operatic and more storytelling fantasia. I absolutely see in Anette the person Tuomas described since the beginning as the singer he wanted to have - a storyteller with a clear beautiful voice. However, at this point Nightwish had also made a bunch of records with ooeratic vocals and it took Anette a while to make the songs her own, in the beginning the band was adhering too much into what the songs use to be like which made it even harder for Anette to make her own interpretation. However, in her last years in Nightwish and after Nightwish she sounded amazing also live. You have to also remember that the tours Nightwish did with Anette were double times as hard as they did with Tarja or Floor which stressed Anette's health and voice quite a bit. Floor is the middleman, if Tarja did her type of singing the best and Anette was the best storyteller Floor mixes both types but in my opinion she lacks the storytelling quality and for me personally I don't enjoy her tone of voice as much as the two others. I also feel she keeps changing around randomly between styles of singing in the middle of the songs (especially in the first years with Nightwish) in a way that doesn't suit the storytelling of the song. For example, storytime (one of the best songs of Nightwish imo) sounds very forced with Floor. I just think they are all different and I was happy to follow the band closely with the first two singers whom I enjoyed immensly. I don't understand how people have such difficulty to see the best (and worst) sides of each.

is that why he changed the entire model of the genre of the band from mood/folk to a much more ambitious one due to Tarja's jaw dropping vocals?...in 1996 , she sounded as powerful and deep as a freight train and Tuomas was extactic...the reason he picked Annete was because she sounded nothing like a classical juggurnaut Tarja brought to the table, knowing that she was irreplaceable...

Speaking of different singers and amazing concerts, I highly recommend doing Epica - Stabat Mater Dolorosa live Retrospect (feat. Floor Jansen). If you have not heard this song, you will never really know the capacity of these two vocalists, even if you think you do. Also, this concert is the only Symphonic Metal video that I personally know of to feature a full orchestra and choir (aside from Dimmu Borgir's Forces of the Northern Night, which is Symphonic Black Metal, and you should also check out). Whether or not you check out this song, you DEFINITELY need to check out the Retrospect DVD, as it is one-of-a-kind, and a must-have for any symphonic metal fan.

Finally "Wishmaster", this is the song that got me into Nightwish and for many years it was my favorite song from them... until I've heard, well, "The Greatest Show on Earth". About Anette Olzon, remember the Swallow the Sun song you've done??? It was her on the female vocals and you've liked it so I guess you could do something with her on Nightwish.

I love Anette's era, amazing albums and great concerts. But Tarja's era is always my favourite.

You should check some of the Nightwish songs with their second singer (Anette Olzon). As far as i know you havent watched any of their songs with her as of now. I would recomment Bye Bye Beautiful, Storytime or Scaretale.

Hey guys! Great reaction. I usually avoid comment sections but I've watched a couple of your vids and I see that you're under some pressure from some fans for not reacting to Anette. This is so unfair because you're both so nice and respectful. And I understand your point. Anette's voice never really fit Nightwish's music for me as well. That was hard because they have always been one of my favorite bands but I really wasn’t able to make myself enjoy it. So I 'stayed clear' from new stuff until Floor. It's not the same as saying that Anette is a bad singer but unfortunately some fans that got to know NW with Anette as their lead singer don’t seen to understand how we don't enjoy the same things they do. The hate Anette received from some old fans when she joined was completely undeserved. And that's because nobody was obliged by law to listen to her or enjoy her singing. Which is also why you guys shouldn't be made to react to her just to appease her fans (and from what I see it's not a matter of not having heard any of the DPP or Imaginaerum songs with her since you said you got a Decades album for free at the concert venue). So I just wanted to give you my support! Keep up the good work but most importantly: keep doing what you truly enjoy! And people: please let them do it freely, ok?

Another issue is there's a lot less live footage out there of Annette-era Nightwish, even including "audience-phone" style footage. Unlike Tarja and Floor she never got a live concert dvd/blu-ray (and she specifically asked to not be shown at all in the documentary that came with Showtime/Storytime) due to the timings of when she left (if she'd have stayed would probably have been in Showtime/Storytime.) Now, as a personal opinion, Imaginaerum was peak Annette, because that's when it really felt like the songs suited the way she sang (DPP had some of that, but was still kind of transitional)

Wenlocke I agree. There’s a lot less professional quality live footage from NW with Anette. I also agree that they adapted their musicality to Anette's vocals on the 2nd album. However, the real issue here seems to be that they don’t feel like doing it. Based on what they said they're simply not interested in reacting to Anette based on what they already experienced from listening to some of the DPP and Imaginaerum songs which features her vocals. That's not bad, that's not an offense to Anette or anything like that. There are people who doesn't enjoy Tarja's singing. The same with Floor. And they're within their rights. That’s not the same as calling names at these singers or saying they're lousy. We should just respect each others preferences, right?

European Brotherhood Well if you're well versed in the technical aspects of music writing, production, instrument playing and singing and you evaluated that the album is lacking in these aspects compared to other releases then it might be. I don't know. I'm not a musician and I never studied music. But I enjoyed it better than DPP or Imaginaerum. Still my favorite NW album is Wishmaster. The fact that I like something more does not mean said thing is objectivelly better unless I'm trained in the craft or something. Musical taste is very subjective. It's just personal preference that most times is less based on a through objective evaluation of the subject and more on what simply 'sounds good' to us.

European Brotherhood and if they are not fans of Anette's singing they still can react to DPP and Imaginaerum songs from live performances with Floor, like they already did with The Poet and The Pendulum and I Want My Tears Back. No problem here :)
