You are right, this was not the end of the song - and at the same time it was. It was the end of the live song, but the album version has an extended spoken part at the end. The words on the big screen are the lyrics to that extended spoken part which they haven't performed live in that show. There is an extended version of this performance where the fans have added the spoken parts after the live part, well worth watching. BTW, this song is inspired by Walt Whitman's poem of the same title. kzread.info/dash/bejne/paeGybGhopawpM4.html

This is inspired by the poem.. G to E minor is the last line of the poem.. I'm not a musician but I read somewhere that G and E minor are like opposite minor cords of the same major cord.. The poem is about duality, like heads and tails are opposites, but both are still parts of the same coin.. When Toumas was writing this song he was pondering his own place in the world with confidence and doubt.. His proclaimed purpose in life was a steadfast dedication to bringing joy and happiness to everyone who ever listened to his music, but still he maintained a lingering self doubt that he was actually up to the task..

In music theory every major scale has a relative minor scale. They share the exact same notes in their scales. The 6th(aka minor 6th) note of any major scale is its relative minor scale. In this case the 6th note in a G major scale is E. Just FYI. I’m not familiar with the poem so I don’t know how NW referenced that idea.

I loved your comment about loving to react to the audience reacting to a Nightwish performance. Guess what! You are ready to see floor performing on the Dutch TV show Beste Zangers. Floor was one of the featured singers in the 2019 season and she consistently WOWed the other singers in a very intimate environment. Many of them are reacting to Floor's performance for the first time...and you get to not only react to Floor's performance, but react to the other singers reacting from the sofas. All of Floor's performances were great, however her duet performance of "Shallow" and her duet featuring Henk Poort of "Phantom of the Opera" are great places to start. Also, her live performance in front of a full orchestra and full choir with Epica singing "Sancta Terra" is sure to thrill you as well. Thank you both for doing what you do best...getting excited about great music and superb performances.

I think you said a couple more Nightwish songs from Wacken 2013. "Last Ride of the Day" literally, great ending to a great concert. Watch till the very end to see credits and bows. "Amaranth", great interaction with the crowd by Floor. There was something mentioned about hair on your reaction. I have to use the opportunity to tell what I saw today down town Helsinki, because I found it hilarious. There was a woman whose head, because of her hairdo, looked exactly like a huge corona virus. I'm sure everyone has seen pictures of the virus with all the spikes on it's surface. Seeing that made my day.

Hi Justin, hi, Stacy. You always point out how the crowd is getting their money's worth and enjoying their experience to the max.... as if the musical performance wasn't enough to give them a night to remember, keep in mind that that was the first time those fans ever heard Floor Jansen performing with Nightwish. This was still part of the Imaginaerum World Tour and they were supposed to see Anette Olzon as the singer. Every fan that experienced Floor Jansen sing with Nightwish for the first time had a "Golden Ticket" because they experienced awesomeness and perfection!! 😊 The lyrics that were displaying on the screen was actually what you were reading at first. They don't perform those words with the actual song but it does take what you actually heard from 6+ minutes to almost 14 minutes. Nightwish did actually release the 14 minute video, if you want to experience that ending. For the next reaction, I'm gonna say the opener, "Dark Chest Of Wonders". Thank you for the video, reaction and comments. Stay safe and stay blessed. 😊❤🤘🤘

Thanks Justin and Staci! Love this band! Love your reactions!! What I love so much about this band.... They go from "a little softer" to full on BANGER in 5 seconds!! And everything in between... Tuomas is a master of toying with our emotions. Floor is the master of reintroducing those emotions back to the audience. Watching Staci light up is so much fun! Her comment...."everybody is so into it"... Nightwish was the headliner at Wacken that year....82000+ fans were rapt to see the new incarnation of the band. Remembering that Floor was still a 'guest singer', as was Troy, this was their 'coming out' party. Additionally, the ENTIRE band are "into it" and you can see and FEEL their absolute JOY in being on stage. Get used to being surprised at just how good this band is. There are no throw away songs. Every single one is a work of art and an orchestrated masterpiece. Tuomas is meticulous in his compositions and each member of the band a fanatic about making it perfect for the stage. From the music, to the staging, lighting, imaging and most definitely to the mixing, miking and sound production...all expertly managed. Myself, I love the passion that Jukka brings to drumming. He makes the drums more than a beat, but an instrument. In the same way Floor makes the voice a musical instrument. I love Empuu being a prankster and his interactive play with the fans. I love the depth that Marko brings with his amazing bass AND vocals. He's never 'phoning in' his performance. He's "in it" for the fans and the music. Not pictured in this performance is another of my favorites of the band, Troy. For your enjoyment (and mine) you should react to LAST OF THE WILDS. It's an instrumental, but one of my favorite tracks. I'm thinking, YOU'LL LOVE IT TOO!!

Song of Myself is written by Tuomas in remembering of the American poet, essayist, and journalist Walt Whitman (May 31, 1819 - March 26, 1892) As humanist, he was a part of the transition between transcendentalism and realism, incorporating both views in his works. Whitman is among the most influential poets in the American canon, often called the father of free verse. This song has 4 parts ending in a poem. Although this last part has never performed live the text is written on the wall behind the stage. 1. From a Dusty Bookshelf 2. All That Great Heart Lying Still 3. Piano Black 4. Love

You were right. It doesn't feel like it is not the end of the song just yet, because it really isn't. This live performance is only half of the whole track, which consists of the first 3 parts. The final part, Love, is a beautiful stanzas recited by "The loved ones & the fellowship", a group of people that closely connected to Nightwish. This final part never had and probably never will be performed live. You can check out their official track from the album Imaginaerum for a full complete set of the emotional roller coaster. The change from G to Em is sorta a brilliant musical pun nestled in music theory. G and Em are parallel keys, starting from a different base note, so you can kinda play the same chords in either key. And a main character in the NIghtwish movie this song featured in was named Gem. (G + Em). Hope I didn't butcher the explanation trying to keep it concise, it's just a small detail that blew my mind.

A small comment...I know that from the American perspective money is a strong topic - "people got their money's worth". I would say that money from a European perspective is not that relevant and not important here in this context. We don't go to a concert to get our money back, we don't take jobs just because they pay better - we try to enjoy life, our job, etc.. Money is never the leading cause.... The people who went to the concert never though a second about the ticket price :-) They thought about the joy they would experience..... I lived 3 years in the US, and it is easy to see how money always creeps into any conversation. Here in Europe it doesn't, we still believe in many other values, such as the common good, society, etc... However, brilliant comment otherwise, I enjoy watching you enjoying Nightwish :-)

Honestly a life without the current thought of money would be great. It’s cool to think that there is a large population of people who live like that. Americans (for the most part) really solo in on value, that’s why the phrase “the best bang for the buck” is so popular here. I’m working myself to detach myself from the dollar and the thought of it but naturally now I’m cheap.. so I always consider value in everything I buy or think about buying. We hope to visit Europe one day and I hope we can experience this kind of thinking from the locals and maybe learn to shift our own minds. Thank you for the talk.

@@JustinDorseyTV It would be an honour to host you in our house in England any time you visit - there is always a free guest room ! I declined job opportunities in the US, probably because I prefer a 'semi-capitalistic' society. More specifically, I sleep better knowing that everyone here has free health insurance, poor or rich, and the same treatment. Some things in life should be non-negotiable, health & education are two of them. My parents always told me a s child to look for a fulfilling job, and not the one to become rich. But this is maybe easier said if you grow up protected.

Very happy I subbed to you guys. As you both eluded to us watching you react to them is probably a reason why we're so interested in seeing the astonishment on your faces - as I and no doubt so many others have seen this video possibly hundreds of times, we never seem to tire of it and for me personally, it's such a joy to see the effect that it has on both of you! As for the change from G major to E minor, I think essentially they have exactly the same scale notes in both keys - so I'm guessing the implication is that nothing changes - and in this instance I think is referring to societal change?! That was my take on it, but I've only been a Nightwish fan for 8 months or so, so I might be totally wrong 😀 Great job guys, keep em coming!

I love this song for so many reasons. As someone else already said, it's not as much about the Floorgasm itself as about the whole band being just masters in their work. The composition, instruments, charisma and incredible vocals of both Marko and Floor. By the way, everyone is crazy about Floor's high notes which is understandable, but have you noticed how amazing her low notes are? How clean they are and how clearly you can hear every single word?

The last half of the lyrics is a poem by Walt Whitman, but it is not performed live. It is a narrative on the studio version. Anyway, love your reactions. You two are a lot of fun to watch and so glad you found Nightwish!

I don't think that's true. On the Wikipedia for the album Imaginaerum it says: "Song of Myself" is inspired by Holopainen's favorite poet Walt Whitman, and his famous "Song of Myself". On Wikipedia for "Song of Myself" by Walt Whitman it says: "Song of Myself" was a major inspiration for the symphonic metal album Imaginaerum (2011) by Nightwish, as well as the fantasy film based on that album. Here is a link to Whitman's Song of Myself with all 52 sections: www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/45477/song-of-myself-1892-version I did a quick search with words from Nightwish's lyrics and got no matches. Here's a quote from Tuomas Holopainen on www.songfacts.com/facts/nightwish/song-of-myself : "I wanted to pay homage to him and do the lyrics in a way that he would possibly write. It's a real, open, thorough, personal catharsis - especially the spoken-word part." So it seems, that the spoken word part are Tuomas'' lyrics and not the original poem. But I welcome a correction, if I'm wrong. :-)

@@MrSilentBill Honestly, I'm not sure myself. My search said a poem by Walt Whitman, which sounds like something Tuomas would be inspired by. But you can't believe everything you read on the internet, right. Anyway, if I was wrong, it was not ill intended.

Most of what you're reading is an extended spoken word piece after the song proper. This is where I'd encourage you to listen to the album version. I suppose it would have been impossible to stage so they projected the text on the screen. Part of Tuomas exploration of poetry. I find he and I love some of the same classics, in this case Walt Whitman.

This is everything that is said that you were reading. It's at the end of the album track: I see a slow, simple youngster by a busy street With a begging bowl in his shaking hand Trying to smile but hurting infinitely Nobody notices I do, but walk by An old man gets naked and kisses a model-doll in his attic It's half-light and he's in tears When he finally comes his eyes are cascading I see a beaten dog in a pungent alley He tries to bite me All pride has left his wild drooling eyes I wish I had my leg to spare A mother visits her son, Smiles to him through the bars She's never loved him more An obese girl enters an elevator with me All dressed up fancy A green butterfly on her neck Terribly sweet perfume deafens me She's going to dinner alone That makes her even more beautiful I see a model's face on a brick wall A statue of porcelain perfection beside a violent city kill A city that worships flesh The first thing I ever heard Was a wandering man telling his story It was you, the grass under my bare feet The campfire in the dead of the night The heavenly black of sky and sea It was us Roaming the rainy roads Combing the gilded beaches Waking up to a new gallery of wonders every morn Bathing in places no-one's seen before Shipwrecked on some matt-painted island Clad in nothing but the surf Beauty's finest robe Beyond all mortality we are Swinging in the breath of nature In early air of the dawn of life A sight to silence the heavens I want to travel where life travels Following its permanent lead Where the air tastes like snow music Where grass smells like fresh-born Eden I would pass no man, no stranger, no tragedy or rapture I would bathe in a world of sensation Love, Goodness, and Simplicity (While violated and imprisoned by technology) The thought of my family's graves was the only moment I used to experience true love That love remains infinite As I'll never be the man my father is How can you "just be yourself" When you don't know who you are? Stop saying "I know how you feel" How could anyone know how another feels? Who am I to judge a priest, beggar, whore, politician, wrongdoer? I am, you are, all of them already Dear child, stop working, go play Forget every rule There's no fear in a dream "Is there a village inside this snowflake?" A child asked me "What's the color of our lullaby?" I've never been so close to truth as then I touched its silver lining Death is the winner in any war Nothing noble in dying for your religion For your country For ideology, for faith For another man, yes Paper is dead without words Ink idle without a poem All the world dead without stories Without love and disarming beauty Careless realism costs souls Ever seen the Lord smile? All the care for the world made Beautiful a sad man? Why do we still carry a device of torture around our necks? Oh, how rotten your pre-apocalypse is All you bible-black fools living over nightmare ground I see all those empty cradles and wonder If man will ever change I, too, wish to be a decent manboy But all I am Is smoke and mirrors Still given everything, may I be deserving And there forever remains That change from G to E minor

OK, something going wrong on my pc, my comment somehow went away before I could post it! My tired butt cannot remember all I tried to say originally... I hoped Staci would not listen to this music in the car in fear of a headbanging related crash, resulting in the worst possible meeting of Simone Simons, lead singer of Epica, ( the Sexy as hell) Angel of Death in the latest Ayreon album "Transitus"! Simone and Floor are good friends, and Simone's band Epica was founded by a former band mate of Floor's (same last name but not related) and resulted from Nightwish! Whatever... You said before only a few more Nightwish songs from this 2013 Wacken Open Air Festival! Another good friend of Floor is Tarja, the original lead vocal of Nightwish! Five albums of songs to choose from for her, only two each for Annette and Floor! I look forward to your continued Nightwish journey! Off to bed I go, rather late LOL

Hello! It's not a tip, but mostly a personal preference. I fell like if you go through the lyrics and the backgroud of the music first, you'll enjoy more. A lot o NW songs are based on pure emotions and learning about the music and the history of the band will bring you a totally different vibe. NW doesn't only express the feelings through lyrics, but also with the sound and the instruments. Knowing the background will open your mind a lot of times in your journey into NW world. Tuomas (the keyboarder and composer) had a lot of ups and downs in his musical career and he puts all of these in the songs. Trust in me.
