I'm an '80s kid -- so I remember an '80s cartoon called He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. Floor is the embodiment of Prince Adams' catch-phrase in metal: "I...Have...The...POWER!!" That's Floor, in a nutshell. She's arguably the best living female singer in the world, in any genre.

2 years ago this video was the first time I have heard and seen anything about Nightwish. Floor just blew me away during this performance. I have been a fan of Nightwish and Floor, especially in her solo career and covers since. I am 73 years old and have seen and heard many, many female singers from all genres, she is above all others for me. She can sing anything. Her stage presence in anything she does, is 2nd to none.

Agree 200%, and what I also appreciate about Floor is that she accepts that she gets older, and sometimes it seems that she is a bit proud of her first wrinkles. She is such a great example for anybody who wants to be a real singer, and not just an autotune lipsincing twat/onedayfly.

Hello Mia. I have some info on Floor Jansen for you here. She is married to Hannes Van Dahl, drummer of the Swedish power metal band Sabaton. Together they have a daughter. ( Freja ) Floor Jansen is a soprano, with a range of more than 4 octaves (Eb2 to F6). Re-singing style ranges from opera to screams and grunts. She usually sings in English, in addition she has also sung songs in Dutch, German, Spanish, Finnish, Latin, Italian and Swedish. Jansen was the singer of the Dutch metal band After Forever from 1997 to early 2009. From 1999 she studied at the Rockacademie in Tilburg with classmates Jacqueline Govaert and Danny Vera, where she graduated in 2003. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she gave singing lessons. She plays guitar, piano and flute. On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ReVamp, which was disbanded in September 2016. From 1 October 2012 Jansen replaced Anette Olzon as singer of Nightwish during the Imaginaerum World Tour. On October 9, 2013, it was announced that she would be the group's regular new front singer. In 2015, Nightwish released the album Endless Forms Most Beautiful with Jansen as lead singer. Nightwish's second studio album with Jansen as front singer, Human. :II: Nature., was released in April 2020. Greetings from the Netherlands.

Ahhhh now I feel better! So you said you didn’t pay attention to it, which version did you do first? GLS is arguably one of the greatest songs ever written. And anyone who argues and says it’s not brilliant, needs their head checked. I didn’t see your other reaction, but I’m glad you came to back to it, and Wacken at that. Best version IMO

it also didn't have the growly part; Floor has said that once she started feeling more comfortable with the band, she started experimenting with her voice during practices and they thought it was cool, so asked her to try it out during a concert that same night and it's honestly great; it allows a much wider range of emotions during the song. I do love Tarja, but, to my taste, this version's much better (also much harder to sing)

Floor is for sure a vocal coach favorite, pretty much everyone on youtube who is a vocal coach and/or singer has fallen head over heels in love with Floor Jansen. For all the right reasons i might add, Floor is incredibly skilled, or actually.. ridiculously skilled would be more apt i think, but i'd imagine she's also a "godsend" for classes they teach. Just from this performance alone, any vocal teacher would be able to fill 4 or 5 lessons, just on the techniques being used and how to use them, with visual aid of the Valkyrie herself. The world of metal sure has one thing over nearly every genre out there, the vocalists.. some of the absolute best vocalists in the world are metal singers.. go figure. If i look at the pop world today, and judge on pure skill.. then there are not that many who "survive the cut" so to speak.. tbh, i kind of cannot think of anyone other than Sia in that respect. Oh and yes, Ghost Love Score is already an epic song... but this version with Floor?.... it's perfection, it's out of this world,... it's what Floor does... ;)

Charlie once replied to my comment that, by the description of it, he'd be intrigued to react to EX LIBRIS' latest history-based opus, "Anne". However, seems that idea got lost in the shuffle, with a landslide of recommendations coming in. Maybe now, closing on 30K subs, is the right time?.. Dianne van Giersbergen definitely deserves to be heard... no, experienced. And she is the closest to my humble ears to the ideal of a true opera voice with a pleasing timbre and astonishing variety of technique. Truly the heir to the Classical throne of Tarja! I think Mia, with her knowledge about the subject, ought to also check the band out - I rate them higher musically than XANDRIA (which play in the vein of NIGHTWISH "lite"), with that Progressive and emotional mix like only a few bands have. A great voice still requires great music to shine!

And again a soul is taken by our Dutch Valkyrie Goddess of Metal, more Floor, watch the Beste Zangers 2019, she sings in different styles and different languages, she sings opera, Puccini's O Mio Babbino Caro and she sings from the GameCube game Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, Sound of the Wind. She sings on different projects of Ayreon too.

Great reaction Mia and mr Crab. All the things you said were so knowledgeable, really appreciate that. And there were parts where i got the feeling you had to pause because it came to close. Music isn't just the notes or the lyrics, it's mostly about how it makes you feel. Your face said it all. Floor is a beast, or perhaps better a siren. I can't help but answer her call. Thx again

Vibrato on guitar is as intrinsic to the sound of the instrument as the human voice. But much like Floor vocals, not all are created equally. Great reaction!

You should check Floor's video where she explains her approach to singing this song at this very performance. She also acknowledges that this is her favorite song to sing. I love her line "My Fall Will be for you" Her voice is just floating over that intense guitar rhythm as if defying space and time. The way she sings slightly behind the beat gives the sensation of flying or soaring like a bird on the wind. See link below. kzread.info/dash/bejne/g4uTlahqaJnFZbQ.html - Floor reacting to GLS at Wacken

The best way to really understand what goes on when Floor sings this song is to.... well, hear it from Floor herself. Here is the link to her reacting to this same performance. I would like you to do a reaction to this if you're ok with that. kzread.info/dash/bejne/g4uTlahqaJnFZbQ.html It might put things in perspective for you as to your comments on her "holding back". And wouldn't you know it? Even the 6 foot, Dutch Goddess of all things vocal gets emotional too on that last part. The magic affects us all! lol For techniques, tips, and some exercises she still practices for singing, watch the 4 "Master Classes" she uploaded to her YT channel (Floor Jansen). Her reaction video is not only super informative on how she performs, but fun as well, and she even takes you down memory lane of some experiences she had with this song. Thank you for the video, reaction and comments. Stay safe and stay blessed. 😊❤🤘🤘

If you would like to see lyrics as you take in Nightwish, may I offer you my links, and like Gabriel, the quality is there. :) Welcome, to Nightwish. :) Here is my list for you......but first..... Floor Jansen (pronounced Yansen) who is actually Dutch and the 3rd of the bands lead singers. By the way....she is 6'1" and known as the Valkyrie Goddess. Marco - Bass and vocals (wait until you hear him sing with Floor and solo....) This band is going to rock your world dude. Emppu - Lead guitar (jokester and very deliberative in his playing) Jukka on drums, but had to stop due to insomnia (but is still behind the scenes with Nightwish), new drummer is Kai who was the drummer with Wintersun. Tuomas - keyboards and main song writer/choreographer for Nightwish aka genius. :) And Troy, who you will see trust me, as he is vocals/flute/woodwind/bagpipes/you name it lol. :) Here's just a few Nightwish live songs for you to choose from.... The links that I have added are with lyrics :) Shudder Before the Beautiful (opening song at Wembley Arena 2015) kzread.info/dash/bejne/lZWJm7mHZrbZmag.html Your's is an Empty Hope (2nd song in Wembley Arena 2015) kzread.info/dash/bejne/m62alMZsoZO9gaQ.html Ghost Love Score (Wacken 2013) kzread.info/dash/bejne/fI2eq86Bh6WnhtI.html Storytime (Wacken 2013) kzread.info/dash/bejne/oqqfu9mIer21frg.html Romanticide (Wacken 2013) kzread.info/dash/bejne/rK6TmbF8c7TSiNY.html Ever Dream (Wacken 2013) kzread.info/dash/bejne/Y4ydltBxlK3Jdps.html Ghost River (Wacken 2013) Song of Myself (Wacken 2013) kzread.info/dash/bejne/mZap0ciymrrbeqw.html kzread.info/dash/bejne/noWpl7Ojmceuh8o.html Last Ride of the Day (Last song of the Wacken 2013) kzread.info/dash/bejne/fIaAyLV9fKyye7A.html Dark Chest of Wonders (Opening song Wacken 2013) kzread.info/dash/bejne/gaqDppixlcbWmJc.html Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean (Buenos Aires 2018) kzread.info/dash/bejne/pmZq1MGvcby3YLQ.html Amaranth (Wacken 2013) kzread.info/dash/bejne/e6yGlo-vdbDeZKg.html Apenglow (Wembley Arena 2015) kzread.info/dash/bejne/eKZ-2K2TfqjOZ8o.html Sacrament of Wilderness (Buenos Aires 2018) Without lyrics kzread.info/dash/bejne/oJeJutZxlMy4j7w.html 7 Days to the Wolves (Wembley Arena 2015) kzread.info/dash/bejne/iYmYt5uAfM7ZZdY.html Slaying the Dreamer (Buenos Aires live) kzread.info/dash/bejne/qXVoltajkbObnpM.html Weak Fantasy (Tampere Finland) kzread.info/dash/bejne/c4JmlZuJktTImtI.html My Walden (Tampere Finland) kzread.info/dash/bejne/fGyM2dRqm7erlM4.html Endless Forms Most Beautiful (Tampere Finland) kzread.info/dash/bejne/oIqjqpinZ5zJZJs.html Elan (Tampere Finland) kzread.info/dash/bejne/aYKXpduBj7ybkpc.html Nemo (Live Bloodstock 2018) kzread.info/dash/bejne/jJqpo8SBfca6m7w.html Elvenjig & Elvenpath (Live in Bogota) (No lyrics) kzread.info/dash/bejne/gaGdt6mHm8iwm6Q.html Gethsemane (Live Buenos Airies 2018) (No lyrics) kzread.info/dash/bejne/jIappZuCl5rJj9o.html Stargazers (Live Tampere, Finland 2016) (with lyrics) kzread.info/dash/bejne/gJx516OJidDFhco.html A couple softer ones, but still kick ass hehe: While Your Lips Are Still Red (Wembley Arena 2015) kzread.info/dash/bejne/q2p6r9SIerGfk5c.html The Islander (Tampere Finland) kzread.info/dash/bejne/jKNs0MWEj5jRqsY.html Sleeping Sun (Tampere Finland) kzread.info/dash/bejne/qWmGuqyIhcuofdo.html Three that should be researched before being listened to: Shoemaker (Not yet done live) kzread.info/dash/bejne/hJ6kwaafpq3Pnco.html (About the only human being buried on the moon) Poet and the Pendulum (Wembley Arena 2015) kzread.info/dash/bejne/m3muvLSGpMvOiLg.html (About a dark time of Nightwish"s main choreographer and songwriters battle within himself due to the firing of his high school friend from Nightwish, and how it affected Tuomas the keyboardist.) I think the thing that destroys everybody with this song is that a) Floor is carefully managing her power to not give you the intensity you want until the end, b) Tuomas is carefully managing the chords to not give you the exact resolving chord you want until the end, and c) in this ending they finally give you the exact chord you've been desiring for 10 minutes with an astonishing power and virtuosity, and they give it to you several times in a row. It's way beyond me to say what the actual chords are, but I'd love to hear a subject matter expert break it down for us.
