Tarja started taking piano lesson when she was about 5yo from Tuomas' mother, so that's quite possibly when they've met. Then since they were 11/12yo they went to the same middle school and high school. They then enroll in the same musical university but in different department (Tuomas actually studied jazz, playing mainly saxophone and clarinet), but he had to enroll in the mandatory military service (where he played in the military band) and when he came back he had written a tons of songs. He asked Tarja if she would sing his songs and form an acustic/folk band, though he didn't know that in the meantime her voice was already changed so much, so given her now lyrical powerful voice they adapted and Tuomas started to write more bombastic and layered music to match her voice and so Tuomas, Tarja and Empuu formed Nightwish as a symphonic metal band. Can I ask you to react to Ever Dream with Tarja also with lyrics as you did for this one? It's also a very significant love/desperation song clearly about Tuomas-Tarja. Also I don't think you ever reacted to Tarja's songs Diva and Enough (both of which are pretty much about how Tuomas treated her at the end). Thanks so much for this reaction!!

I might not agree with everything you say, but I fully support your song suggestions. In particular, anyone who reacts to the DPP trio should react to _Enough_ at least, and I'd also suggest _I_ _Walk_ _Alone_ and _Diva_ (I put _Diva_ last because it's looking back from a long time later whereas the others are "in the heat"). 3 for 3, only fair.

I've seen videos of Toumas and Tarja in high school playing and singing together. Her voice sounded kinda strained, which is why she studied opera. She thought she could perform better and preserve her voice if she didn't follow the "talk style" of singing like so many pop stars follow (and lip sync to songs because it's harsh to the throat). Her "new" vocal style, from one article I read, caused the band to change from folk-pop to metal once they reconnected after conscription. Toumas' great song writng skill and Tarja's voice created a new genre of music.

This song in itself is a masterpiece. Combined with the epic Nightwish sound, the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the sound of her voice... Simply one of the best performances I have ever heard in my life. I will never get bored with this song and this very performance. Amazing. Thank you for the reaction.

We have to agree that it's impossible not to fall in love with Tarja. She is the most beautiful human being in this world.

awesome performance by Tarja :) I am amazed how Nightwish evolved since then and also Tarja with her solo now :)

it's about storyteller and his/her stories. a story about blue memories of a love tragedy. No need belting, no need to scream as the center of the star to overcome the others. There is only the majestic atmosphere of harmony from the choirs with all the instruments in it. They all put themselves at the back and gave this masterpiece a chance to come forward and shine on its own. yeah, this song is sung by the song itself

Beautiful, wistful, heartbroken, angry, loving, it's all in there. In the lyrics, the instruments, the choir, Tarja's voice, it's all coming together into perfection

I've heard this song first when I was about 12 years old and I've been reading Lord of the Rings at that time and somehow, this song and LotR gave me the same feelings, just a whole word and journey opening up and taking you through so many emotions. So it was quite funny when I found out recently that the same orchestra that recorded the LotR movie score is also featured on the Once album, and that Tuomas is a huge Tolkien fan. 🤲🏽❣I was like "ok it's all coming together now" :D And Tarja just fits this fantasy vibe so perfectly, you know? Both visually and vocally, because it's the opposite of modern and so magical in every way so while I really like Anette and Floor on this song, this one has a specific feeling that I always come back to ❣❣ I could write a whole essay about this masterpiece but I am so happy you'll get to experience it now. Ghost Love Score with Tarja❤ this is something that I have been waiting for a long time. I love both, Tarja's and Floor's, versions. The endind with Floor👌 And you can clearly hear that this song was written for Tarja's voice because it fits it so, so well. Just macigal!

Yes, totally different versions, and completely different feeling. Tarja's version is more theatrical and wishful, even sad, and the ending support those feelings, while Floor's version is more like "hell yeah" at the end. Of course both live versions gives their twist, because they don't actually perform it like it's a sad song. And listening to studio version hundred(s) times before actually seeing any live version can affect. So maybe I just feel that way because of studio version...or the fact, that it was Tarja's last time performing that song.

I also heard the studio version before Floor's version so it is interesting to think how I would see the song now. And also nowadays most of the reactors see the Floor version first and then Tarja's. Through that I get an inkling how it might have been for me if I'd seen that version first

Yes, as performed by Floor, it is powerful and the reactors praise it, but Performed by Tarja, this is a love song, as Tuomas wrote it Performed by Floor, this is no longer a love song

Ever Dream from End of an Era is such beautiful and heartbreaking love song. I don't think you've seen that one yet, but it's my favourite version!

This is the original version as it is on the album, then Floor adds that scream at the end (very good too) but Tarja transports my soul to another place. Tarja's versions of wishmaster are also very interesting: in from wishes to the eternity she sings the same as the album and in end of and era she adds more power. It would be nice if you also react to Tarja's more classic side: mein herr marquis, o mio babbino caro, etc.

I honestly don’t have a preference between the versions. This is more orchestra and choir heavy especially at the end with with Tarja layering over the top. Where Floor does that magnificent high note, the band takes center stage and finishes out the song. Floor’s is lighter and happier, if that makes sense. Tarja shows a little more longing, even innocence. That’s just my interpretation. I actually heard this one first so if I had to pick, I’d go with this one. But luckily I don’t have to, we can still enjoy both.

That's right what you say. I don't understand when fans say which version of a song is better. My God, two versions are different and they're about completely different things. With Tarja it's sad unrequited love of a young romantic who only lives by it, and for him world has collapsed. In Floor's it's an unrequited love with certainty and hope that things will get better and everything will still be okay. These versions have very different emotional messages. Tarja perfectly captured sadness and melancholy of young, suffering, lovesick Tuomas. And Floor conveyed emotions of Tuomas, who has grown up and survived this sad love.

To me it is... Tarja: wistfulness, melancholy, dark tone Floor: happier, rocking, power I could care less about the different versions. Many times my playlist gives Ever Dream back-to-back with Tarja and Floor, usually I don't even notice that singer changed 😀

you can like tarja's version and not hate floor's btw, I don't understand why most nw fans feel like they have to choose only one when all three of them have great songs with the band

For almost twenty years, I only knew Tarja's version. I remember playing it over and over on my mp3 player. It was absolutely magical and since then I've been a huge fan of her voice and NW too, even though I've listened to them before. Although I recently heard the version of Floor, I return more to Tarja's wistful singing and the sadness that the song carries. But I understand that this is a completely subjective thing. Thanks for the wonderful reaction, I love your analysis and thoughts. And I'm not afraid anymore of the documents. You already know enough about the band and their members, so I trust you will make up your own mind and take the documents with a grain of salt. The documents themselves don't reveal much, it's more about the way they were edited and what went into them. And The End of innocence is probably the most chaotic documentary I've ever seen.

Tarja best of the best!

The choir is London's (UK) Metro Voices Choir. Tarja has said in interviews she knew by this album her voice was strong enough to sing with the band going full out and as is obvious she can perform as a soloist with the choir and not get lost in the mix. She can be out front without taking over the show. Still part of the ensemble. Her talent can be overlooked until you do enough of an analysis. This is the most epic song of theirs. I said somewhere else, Floor has not tried to copy Tarja or ' correct' it or do better because of A she loves and respects Tarja too much to insult her by trying. B because this version is the perfect performance of this mix. At best she could equal what was done already. No one wants to just be known as a cover band/artist and Nightwish much less so of what they did already. C it would insult.Thoumas, Emppu, and Marko who still being in the band played that night giving it all they had. So if you are going to do an encore of this song it has to be something new. Some legitimate reason to do it again. To remix, remaster what went before. The band members in 10 years have grown and changed. Floor came to the band as a friend, professional, and person they have only known as an adult. That changes the dynamics. Now the song is different. Wether floor could sing full on with the choir is not the point. Rather again should she? For my reasons above I have to conclude the answer is no. Professional pride is the least of these reasons. Yes there is love and respect but there is healthy ego and boundaries. Floor was never Tarja's replacement but Anette's. What point in purposefully muddying waters where comparisons are inevitable by actually doing what was done before as it was done before. Likewise Tarja does not fill her shows with old Nightwish songs. Maybe one per show. But does her own original material. We have this performance. It was magic. It can't be recaptured. And knowing the backstory she'd never want to go back. Backstory short She had married Marcello in 2002 3 ish years earlier. Tuomas and his feelings/thoughts were not welcomed then, nor would they be 20 years on. Everybody needs to live in the present.

I would not call this Tarja version....it is End of an Era version which is quite loyal to the album version. People typically do not get it...they later changed the ending from the fading one to the end scream one (Floor nails that one)...but it is different. The mood of this is to fade originally....By the way...that red dress is the most grand costume I have ever seen on a singer....it makes me faint. Red - symbol of love in mic too. In the end there is a hurry to change the dress. One think is nice that You know...these songs of Tuomas are deeper than Ocean, more intelligent than average....they have meaning and message plus poetry....not easy to get by beginner reactors after first time.

I didn't expect you to seriously immerse yourself in this great band. I watched your video for Swanheart once and to me your reaction was like a mockery or a slap in face. Now you've changed for better.

I always say that Ever Dream is Tuomas love song for Tarja. If you watch this concert’s performance of that song it kind of makes sense. For more performances from Tarja, I mostly recommend From Wishes to Eternity, which you have done a few reactions from. Was lucky enough to see Nightwish three times with Tarja. 2 of them were from this last tour.

In the early Nightwish catalogue, Tarja will never be replaced as the best, because the songs were written for her voice. Floor Jansen fits Nightwish, especially with newer songs being less operatic, but Tarja will always rule the Nightwish roost. Anette, despite being a good vocalist, was a mistake, as she was left trying to fill a very big voice, without the power to do so.

The 5 Finns for the last one. In Finland. For a Finnish audience. And the original story…ghosted love. As she fades away. With the dark gothic vibe.

This is one of the few original Tarja songs where i prefer the Floor version. Don't get me wrong, i love Floor and she does a great job on all the old songs, but since i'm an old fan i still prefer Tarjas special kind of magic that made me fall in love with the band back in the late 90s. Also in general my favorite concert with Tarja is "From wishes to Eternity", i just like the whole vibe of it more than "End of an Era", and of course i hate the name because .. you all know what it means.

Projecting one's self as a martyr is not a noble act. At best it is self pity. With that said, this song is pure beauty.

I think I'm a Floor fanboy, nevertheless I also appreciate to listen to Tarja and Annette. The really great thing is, you have 3 different singers which multiplies the Nightwish catalog ... and this keeps it really interesting, because you have so many different performances to choose from and everything brings something different to the table. As you said, in this version the ending is very different to live performances from Floor .... and I love all of them.

"Every song is a finale in End of an Era" - exactly. Unfortunately for me much of the concert is damaged by the videography, and this song is one of the worst. I literally cannot watch it in the sections where each shot lasts a second or less, I just have to look away. As for the music, GLS is a classic example of a song where I prefer how Tarja opens it, and how Floor closes it. Fantastic performance, anyway!

So you say NW id not put 110% in Wacken 2013 - which is the best NW Concert ever in my mind - come on, in 2005 they were still raw and not in their peak as Artists..

I like how the orchestra comes out in this version, but I prefer Floor's vocals and how she uses different singing styles to tell the story of the song. Unfortunately Floor's golden performance of this song was the Wacken 2013 version and recently she's started to struggle to belt the ending note out. It sounds so forced and strained that I'd wish she could leave out the belting note and let the orchestra do its thing. The same goes with Nemo.

I think Tarja’s version is miles above Floors version, but I never go to a reaction of hers and say it. In fact, I don’t ever watch them. Even if I did watch one, why would any of Floors fans care if I like Tarja’s version better? They wouldn’t. I’m old enough to understand that people like different things. I don’t need to convince everyone to think like I do. It screams of entitlement.

I’m a huge Tarja fan, but Floor has been the singer for over 10 years, and frankly is entitled to any song she and the band want to reach back in the vault for. And I say this as a person who gets extremely frustrated when I see so many reactions to Floor’s Sleeping Sun instead of Tarja’s. But that’s not Floor’s fault, and she does a beautiful version that is, once again different. Did you consider that maybe Floor honours Tarja by not copying her?
