NIGHTWISH - Ghost Love Score REACTION First Time. (Feelings)

Музыка

Here we go with a first-time listen of Nightwish's Ghost Love Score. This song ripped me apart. Nightwish is insane everything about them is unreal. In the first part even before the Valkyrie jumped out I already got emotional then Floor Jansen decided to rip my heart out during Ghost Love Score.
The band is angelic in this song, and the voice, oh the voice. We all experience emotions, and we have all loved, hopefully, unless people are sociopaths. I absolutely will be doing a deep dive on all of Wacken 2013 with Nightwish. I can't help myself. This is my new favorite band, and for me to listen to more of their music I have to react to it, so I can give you all my first impressions.
So right now I will be listening to the 3 Nightwish songs I've reacted to on repeat. Please consider following me on my journey, drop suggestions in the comments, and sub if you'd like!

@@TheMindofBruce there are many great female vocalist in the world, then there are a few exceptional ones ,then there is Floor Jansen, Floor Jansen formerly of AfterForever & ReVamp who in 1999 started attending the Rock Academy in Tilburg and then at the National Conservatory in the Netherlands. She then went on to study & trained in musical theatre and also attended opera lessons for a year. I have seen in person about 100 performances of some of the greats in rock/metal & contemporary, nothing compares to Wacken 2013 even from a YT video, and no one moves so many emotionally like Floor does, there is no band that can stand in the same level as NW .

@@TheMindofBruce so I heard you say in a previous video that you like your hard rock and I’m assuming that like any normal red red blooded male you’ve heard Pink Floyd Marco sings High Hopes not really a cover, but a tribute to Pink Floyd and this was back before floor, and those goosebumps are called Floorgasm‘s. But Marco, won Finland’s masked singer he can sing anything from Backstreet Boys to Elton John to prince. He is without a doubt an amazing vocalist as well as floor, and don’t discount floors being this operatic high toned singer, because she can get down and dirty as in deep, guttural growls you’ll see that in the song yours is an empty Hope, thank you for awesome reactions. I am going to subscribe I like you and welcome to the weird rabbit hole.

Little story about how they started working with Pip Williams when they made the Once album. Ghost Love Score can be found on the album. Here's a clip from their book and timeline is year 2003-04: ---------------------- From the very start, Tuomas had a strong feeling that Once had to have an orchestra, come what ever may. After finishing the recording of backing tracks, the process continued in London with the legendary producer Pip Williams at the helm. Known for his work for the likes Status Quo and Uriah Heep, Williams was responsible for the orchestrations on the album. When the Nightwish guys heard what orchestra they would be working with, their jaws hit the floor. "As Ewo and I traveled to London at the end of November to meet Pip Williams, we had no clue about the orchestra he'd gotten for us", Tuomas says. "The only thing we knew was that Williams himself would do the arrangements and that through his connections, he would hook us up with an orchestra and a choir. The first time we visited Phoenix Sound Studio, Rick Wakeman (the keyboard player of the legendary progressive rock band Yes) opened the door for us. That's when we realized we're onto something big. As we were having coffee in the studio, Pip dropped the bomb: the orchestra in question had played on The Lord of the Rings, as well as on many other Hollywood soundtracks - all recorded in this studio!" It seems that Pip Williams wanted only the best for a band he held in great respect. "I have followed the band for some time, and it's been interesting to see how they have developed. Of course Rock bands like Deep Purple have previously used orchestras, but I really feel that Nightwish have combined the best of both worlds most successfully. They are a classic Metal band with strong classical and movie-score influences in their music." "It was important for me that it would not be just about over-dubbing a few orchestral parts on top of a Rock band", Williams continues. "Tuomas' compositions were brilliant also in the sense that choir and orchestra could be added naturally, so that they don't sound pretentious or contrived. This is of utmost importance. The songs must be structured so as to allow the orchestra enough space. In the end, the results were quite emotive. Also, let us not forget just how good all the musicians in Nightwish are. They are perfectly sympathetic to Tuomas' vision. And Tarja's (1st lead singer) wonderful voice has done the songs great justice." Williams knew his orchestra well. "I have worked with most of the players on different sessions for many years. Gavin Wright is a sensitive and authoritative orchestra leader, and together with Isobel Griffiths, the orchestral contractor, we were able to secure just the right musicians for each song. Anthony Pleeth, who has the lead cellist and played solo cello on 'Kuolema tekee taiteilijan', is one such example. These guys have done many, many big movie scores, as have the wonderful Metro Voices choir, and I thought this project required the kind of grandiose performance one would find on movie soundtracks by, say, Howard Shore." Tuomas could not have been more excited about the situation. "Using the orchestra was an earthshaking experience. I only had to lie on the studio couch for two days, listening to these amazingly talented people. During the first takes, someone said into the mike, 'Are these guys really serious?'. When we began 'Ghost Love Score', a positive kind of bewilderment took over the orchestra. That, as well as 'Dark Chest of Wonders', were the first ones we recorded." Williams was equally happy with his orchestra. "These musicians are such brilliant sight readers that it wasn't necessary to do more than a couple of rehearsals. Then we'd have a take or two of each song. It all went very smoothly. After the takes, I would check that Tuomas was happy, and then we would move on. If there was anything he wanted changed, it would be dealt with in a very short time. I must say, however, that we had prepared very well - I had been constantly on the phone with Tuomas when I was writing the arrangements. Yes, I ended up making a huge phone bill! But the groundwork paid off, as only a few small alterations were necessary." Tuomas and Pip Williams immediately hit it off on a personal level. "Tuomas is sensitive, caring, very observant - he's what the English call a musical sponge", Williams commends. "It means he is always willing to try new ideas and absorbs the musical influences around him like a sponge. Tuomas always wants to learn more about music, its origins and sound. He has very firm ideas of what he is trying to achieve, but he also leaves space for those working with him to express themselves. He is humble, appreciative and approachable, one of the most talented musicians or composers I have ever worked with. I really think he would make an original and effective movie score composer, and I definetely want to collaborate with Tuomas again in the future - in fact, we're already talking about the next venture. I would also love to collaborate with him on a movie score at some point." "Many times the players would come into the control room afterwards to listen to the takes, and according to Pip, that's something that doesn't happen very often," Tuomas says. "They're usually not that interested - they just do their job and leave, but now they actually listened to the songs. At the end of the last day, as I went down to thank the orchestra, they started applauding, standing up from their seats. It was one of those great moments in life." According to Williams, a Pop or Rock artist rarely receives a standing ovation. "The musicians respected the quality of the songs and the challenge of playing such intricate and well structured music. You must remember that these guys also do simple pop sessions, songs that are very easy to play. With Nightwish, they were able to play stuff that was often as demanding as many of the classical pieces they had trained on. This was so much more than just simple 3-chord songs in 4/4 time. And let's not forget that they also had great respect for people that were prepared to take such a huge musical and financial risk, all for the sake of art! Remember, these were very expensive sessions. I'm very satisfied with my own reward for the arrangements, too." "There is alwas a degree of compromise when mixing a Metal band with a large orchestra, as it's such a huge sound, but all in all, I'm really pleased with the end result", Pip reflects. "The main thing is that we have established a great identity with Nightwish and the orchestra, and our cooperation could be even better in the future. Seriously, Once is one of the most enjoyable projects in my career, and I've done this for 35 years!"

And that was song # 13 in a 15 song set here at Wacken. It's basically about an unrequited love. From the 2004 album, Once, the 5th and final with Tarja. Besides the Metro Voices choir I mentioned in the chat, they also record with the Young Musicians Choir of London and the London Philharmonic (4th -8th album), and the Pale Blue Orchestra(9th album). You've done 3 from Wacken so far, 12 more left, the set opener was Dark Chest of Wonders. All songs at this show were recorded with either Tarja or Anette as the lead singer. Floor had only been in the band about 10 months at the time. She got Ghost Love Score added to the set as she loves the song.

Most people are in awe of what they witnessing and hearing. In your case you have already made the emotional connection with NW and therefore this song has so much more of a personal impact. This is usually reserved to Poet and the Pendulum and TGSOE, after the forged relationship of the fans with the songs has been established. Therefore your reaction is something very very special indeed. 🥰🥰🥰

I have found (and I believe you will, too) that there are pure instrumental moments that also will cause just as powerful a response. Not only Nightwish ( all, and I mean all of their songs are epic), but also check out her covers ( alone or shallow or take your pick). This travel with Floor will take you to music heaven. She is without doubt the very best singer at this moment. Worldwide. Whether it is symfonic metal, pop, rock, musical, opera, classical, Growling anything. She does everything, and she does anything better then everyone else. Some spirits whisper she is not from this world 😅. And Tuomas who writes all of this.....he is the reincarnation of Mozart. Nightwish + Floor = The absolute top......by far. Happy journey. This will bring you so much positive energy. Greetings from the Netherlands, land of milk and honey and epic female metal singers.

Start with "alone" ( recorded at home during Covid), "shallow", from a TV show called "beste zangers" , meaning best singers. "Euphoria", from that same show where she just had serious surgery, not able to travel, so she did it live remotely. When I just had surgery, I am pathetic, moaning in my bed and longing for attention and care ( typical male behaviour 😂). Not the case with this beast of a woman. She blows everyone away as ever. Her performance of "the Phantom of the opera" in beste zangers together with Henk Poort is regarded the best performance of the Phantom. Please wear seatbelts. Listening can be extremely hazardous to your health 😅

Nightwish Shadow Unit from Estonia reporting in ! 6'1'' Dutch Valkyrie Goddess spotted ! And, Floor has an ability to draw out pure and raw emotions (she is an empath!!!). Like one of my favorite reactors have said: Floor's voice has an ability to push you down to flight of stairs, then catch you at the bottom and do it all over again (Shout out to Eric and Concurpas), and you Love every second of it !!!!! Here is a little more info about the most powerful voice in our time: Floor her name is derived from the Roman Goddess of Spring, Flora. Floor Jansen is called the Valkyrie Goddess of Metal and Empathy. Floor Jansen is a soprano, with a range of more than 4 octaves (Eb2 to F6). She can sing from classical to belting and raspy vocals like screaming and death growls. And she's also a voice coach and teacher to boot. Plus, huge vocal nerd 😉. Floor Jansen was the singer of the Dutch metal band After Forever from 1997 to early 2009. From 1999 she studied at the Rockacademie in Tilburg, where she graduated in 2003. She studied musical theatre and a year of opera. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she gave singing lessons. She plays guitar, piano and flute. On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ReVamp, which was disbanded in September 2016. From 1 October 2012 Jansen replaced Anette Olzon (Second singer of Nightwish after Tarja) as singer of Nightwish during the Imaginaerum World Tour (And she had to learn the setlist in 48h). On October 9, 2013, it was announced that she would be the group's regular new front singer. In 2015, Nightwish released the album Endless Forms Most Beautiful with Jansen as lead singer. Nightwish's second studio album with Jansen as front singer, Human. :II: Nature., was released in April 2020. And I say this : Floor was, is, and always will be, a force of nature !!!! You earned this !!!! NEW subscriber here!!! You will see me on your other NW and Epica Reactions !!!! NWSU/FloorFan 🤘😎🤘.

Tuomas was in a radio interview some time ago where he talked about the five most important songs he has composed. Ghost Love Score was one of them and he said this: ---- Tuomas: Over the years, this has probably become accidentally, the ultimatum Nightwish song. At one point we had a gallup on the website which is a fan favorite Nightwish song and Ghost Love Score won by a landslide. In a way, it reflects the innermost essence of the band, it has all the elements that Nightwish is known for. "What kind of story is this song lyrically?" Tuomas: Our lyrics are not always so ambiguous and multidimensional. There is a clear theme in some of the songs, what the song is about, but Ghost Love Score has a very clear multi-layeredness, that is, the lyrics are purposely constructed in such a way that they can be understood in many different ways. What I was personally looking for then, I won't reveal, because in music and art a little mystery is good to be present. Tuomas: We have talked a lot with Floor about which Nightwish songs from the time of Tarja and Anette she would like to sing and where her voice is best suited. Ghost Love Score is Floor's all-time favorite Nightwish song. She wanted to make it her own and this has happened over the years. The last part of the song has the last note of the last chorus, it has become a bit of a cult case - the audience waits for it and when that last note comes out there is always quite a shudder from the audience. "That's probably the best thing about that job when you get a feeling and a reaction from the audience like that!?" Tuomas: It's a really confusing and somehow multidimensional experience. The songs very often tell about some personal things. There are things that have been on my mind. There are a lot of things that you don't want the world to see, but you just have to put them there to keep your head together. When you see tens of thousands of people at a big festival singing along to the lyrics of that song and getting huge emotional reactions from it, it's a really strange feeling. In a way, I wrote the lyrics of this song for myself and now everyone has adopted them - of course they interpret them in their own way, which is one of the best things about music. At that moment, however, it's really intriguing or strange feeling for me.

"I have lost the path before me, the one behind will lead me" I interpret this line as the speaker believing they had a whole life ahead with their partner, but then they lost that person, so that path they envisioned is now gone. Still, it's the memories from that relationship that sustain them. Like, the ghost of our love will keep me going.

NW Army Detroit chapter here, I discovered them in 2021 when I saw a reaction video and been hooked ever since. I think the reason us NW Army fans are so engaged is because especially in the US where we NEVER FREAKING HEAR ABOUT BANDS LIKE THIS we almost have to rely on word of mouth. So it's good to chill with others who are discovering what we've been missing and what the lucky masses in the rest of the world have known for freaking years. I'm an aging metal chick myself and NW is just part of who I am now. One request: please don't let people railroad you into taking sides on the different singers. Each one has their strengths and weaknesses and all of them have added value to NW. Tarja and Annette, they are not Floor but they each have their set of songs that I like hearing sung in their voices. Give them a chance, especially Annette. I feel she is the most discounted singer and that's a damn shame. She was the "Jason Newsted" of this band and got a raw deal from the band and the fans, she never pretended to be Tarja and she did her own thing. I have mad respect for all three singers.

You will hear Floor doing this type of choral vocalization on many songs, However, this song is one done with a previous Nightwish vocalist. She does this to all of us my friend. This was the first experience I had with Nightwish and Floor. It only took a couple of lines before the Floorgasm began and the dam broke. My life has changed since that moment. Tuomas has left the meaning and interpretation of this masterpiece to our individual understanding. IMHO - I think it is about losing a love to death or end the torment as one possible understanding. Thus the lines, Take me cure me kill me. As if the writer is saying either allow me to move on from this lost love or kill me so I can be reunited in death. There are several other possibilities. One of which could be that it is an unspoken and unrequited love that is never acted upon. A love from afar perhaps? What it means to you is what is the most important. The journey has only begun. A few tips to lyrical interpretation of Tuomas' deep level poetic styling. #1. He loves to write about losing or yearning to recapture the innocence of youth. He is like one of the Lost Boys. He wants to never grow up and feels that the responsibilities and realism of the adult world kills off the childhood innocence. The awe and wonder we all experience as children as we develop our human imagination and love of fantasy and stories. #2. When you hear him reference Dead Boy, he is referring to that loss of innocence which hardens the human soul and forces us all to suppress our emotions or put up those walls. There are many others that you will discover on this amazing journey. It is a little low in the mix at Wacken. However, the choir part is repeating throughout the song. The end changes from "If you be the one to cut me I will bleed forever", to; My fall will be for you My fall will be for you My love will be in you You were the one to cut me So I’ll bleed forever

Tuomas is such an incredible lyricist. To be able to write such meaningful songs, one must have had to been through a lot of things in life. That’s what I love about music is the meaning behind the lyrics can be interpreted to our own life. Which is why I think it’s so incredibly powerful

My theory is that the 'ghost love' is for Tarja T, the band's first singer (trained opera soprano), and arguably why Tuomas started the band and wrote this kind of music. There was a bad break in 2005, when Tarja got her resignation letter. You'll get to know much more about that, and eventually listen to the catharcic masterpiece that followed. Anyway everyone is older now and in a much better emotional place. The 'Imaginarium' Tour 2012-13, and getting Floor as the lead singer showed us a much happier Tuomas and band.

Well, as far as I know, Tuomas and Emppu were the first ones who wanted to start a band, with the initial idea being more along the lines of what Auri are doing now. They knew Tarja from school and asked her, and Tuomas figured that her darker timbre was more suitable for heavier music, so they went with metal instead of something more folky-mellow... I have no idea whether Tuomas was in love with Tarja or not (seriously, who'd blame him...😉), _certainly_ no idea whether he ever wanted something "more" from her, though I'm pretty sure he loved her voice and singing... And considering that they basically set up the entire style of NW because of her singing, that breakup must really have felt like it would be the death of NW... Luckily for everyone, it wasn't 🥹

Thank you for acknowledging Tuomas's great song writing abilities. The lyrics are very deep, much more so than most other bands. Sometimes the epic performance hides the fact that these are brilliantly written songs.

Okay, if you want really emotional song, I propose to you to listen two songs: Dead boy's poem (Live in Buenos Aires 2018) and Poet and the pendulum (official live). Check both live versions with Floor. Both are coming extremely deep from the heart of Tuomas.
