70 yr old retired pediatrician, browsing KZread (something new to me) and ran across Night Wish in Argentina. OMG. My musically back ground was piano lesson from age 6-14 90% classical, which I still enjoy listening to. Toumas I feel must be the 21st century reincarnation of Mozart. His blend of time signatures, key changes, choral, orchestral insertions and weaving it into a perfect mixture is otherworldly. When I was younger I would sometimes muse what some of the geniuses of old classical music transposed to this modern world what would they produce. Now I know. Better late than never, gratefully I discovered night wish before my final curtain. Has led me to explore other symphonic metal Epica etc. my 2 favorite vocalist currently are Floor Jansen and the other is a young Norwegian girl named Angelina Jordan, both can cross genre effortlessly and take just about any song and make it their own. That is not taught it is innate. The wife is pissed at the number of hours I watch and rewatch Night Wish Videos, all I can say is I have gone down two rabbit holes, but hell isn’t that what retirement is for?

Greetings, Tim from the great (and smoky) Pacific Northwest division of the Nightwish Army. Your perceptions of Tuomas Holopainen's talent and genius are spot on. I, too am 70 and have been a lifelong audiophile and music lover. I'll that I've still got a Jones for vinyl. Every musician in this outfit is world-class. And you haven't heard all of them yet. Tuomas Holopainen is arguably the best composer of this era. I would suggest that one can hear the influence of Nielsen, Sibelius and Ralph Vaughn Williams in his compositions as well. Both Tuomas and Floor have said that they are "high sensitives". I believe that they are in fact empaths, and that is not an easy existence for anyone so cursed and blessed. You feel the best and the worst of everything from everyone unless you develop a strong enough filter to allow you to survive day to day. This is one of the things that make Tuomas' compositions so hard-hitting, so epic. Tuomas feels so deeply of the things of this world, and this world has not always been kind to him. His genius and his art is that he can share his experiences with us.

That feeling you get is called the Floorgasm. Floor Jansen, the singer, its just incredible, probably the best female singer in the world. She doesn't need theatrics, dance routines or autotune, her voice is all you need.

@@BreakdownMediaYT When you react to Nightwish, you also need to react to EPICA :) These two bands are currently the top dogs in the symphonic metal sub-genre. The lead singer of Epica is gorgeous Simone Simons who is also a friend with Floor from Nightwish (they've performed together too as you will later see ;) Both are classically trained and their voices are amazing. Epica is generally heavier than Nightwish, though they also have some wonderful ballads and acoustic versions of their songs. I dare to say Epica ballads are better than anything I've ever heard from any metal band, including Nightwish. Incredibly beautiful music. Epica.

Originally, Floor was sent to Midgard by Allfather Odhinn to gather the souls of fallen warrior to Valhalla, but she got distracted and joined a series of bands. She still does gather souls in great number. We give thanks for her in our Blots regularly and hope that Odhinn never realizes that she hasn't ever returned.

Totally agree, although there is one exception - "Poet and the Pendulum". If you do decide to continue your Nightwish journey, make sure you leave this one for a while, get to know the band, check out some of their older stuff, do a bit of research into the open letters that were exchanged and the reason for them. It'll make the song that much more powerful and meaningful. If GLS gave you goosebumps, Poet will blow your mind!!

@@SolFaithman That one is the exception. Agreed. I come from the old school where we had liner notes when we bought an album. So research is what we got from a DJ on the radio. Or word of mouth. But 100% in agreement. Get to know the band a little first before taking on a masterpiece.

I could write a long text about the band, their history or this gig, but Gabriel Bardac, the honorary leader of the 'Nightwish Army', has already told you the most important facts about this band in his comment. So I will just say this: The whole gig this evening and this performance in particular rightly enjoys cult status and will probably be mentioned in many history books of this genre. The band itself is already by far at the top of it anyway. For me, this is for many reasons one of the absolute best performances ever. 🤘🏻🔥 One of the most frequent recommendations at this point is probably 'Storytime' from the same night, which is certainly a good option. But I will just throw 'Shudder Before The Beautiful (Official Live)' in the ring, which was recorded at the sold-out Wembley Arena in 2015. 【 'Our rock never dies ever. Floor Jansen (pronounced YAHN-sen) is the third and current singer, having been in place since 2012. Although the band is Finnish, she is a Nederlander, a classically trained soprano (with some additional training in opera and rock.) You'll see her variously referred to as The Valkyrie Queen, the Valkyrie, The Goddess, The Metal Queen, etc. (she is about 6'1 and between 6'4-6'5 in stage heels although she recently said that now that she's turned 40, the heels are out.) She is a vocal coach and horsewoman (dressage) and lives on a little farm in Sweden with her husband (drummer for Sabaton), four year old daughter Freja, horses, barn cats, and a HUGE dog. Her KZread channel is killer-- she does Fan Fridays, interviews, voice lessons, and some incredible covers.

Marko and Floor are singing next to each other and you can see the difference in hight. Marko is 5.11 (180cm) and Floor is at least 15cm-20cm taller on stage in that song

I'm 77 and was never really interested in metal, but I started listening to reactions to Disturbs' Sound of Silence. Then jumped into the Jinjer rabbit hole and finally discovered Nightwish. Best band ever!

that is an excellent comparison ... stage presence commands attention, pulls you in, then the incredible performances that leave you in awe and begging for it to never end ... I never thought I would see another who grabbed me from the first note only to discover Floor and fall in love with yet another performer that defies logic while making us all feel as if she is singing to us.

Floor was asked if there was one person she would want to do a duet with, she said Freddie Mercury. They have similar stage presence, and I do believe some of her movements are very similar to Freddie's, perhasp as a nod to the respect she has for him. They would be an other-worldly, once in a lifetime experience together.

A two day Nightwish newbie here. Never heard of them before but heck what a band. I'm now overdosing on the Nightwish eras of Tarja, Annette and Floor, and like you I have been floored by the band and Floor. This is my first toe dip into the world of symphonic metal, although having been a fan of symphonic rock pop band E.L.O for 45 years I recognise some of the underlying sound but Nightwish are so very different. Toumas the driving force behind Nightwish and Jeff Lynne of E.L.O. are both musical geniuses. Thank you for your wonderful reaction. Paul 👍😊

Floor Jansen is the band’s third lead singer. The song was originally made in the early 2000’s when Tarja Turunen was the lead singer. She had more of an operatic voice but rocked just as well. Even through the band’s long history, their Wacken 2013 performance of Ghost Love Score is still widely regarded as one of the best performances of the song. It isn’t even a competition.

Nightwish Army, Michigan Division. Hate to disagree, but for growls, and the shock value, the Nightwish Cruise version is better than Wembley, by virtue of the fact that despite being on a boat, the sound was better mixed overall for Yours Is An Empty Hope. Floor's vocals sounded too "fry-screamy" during the Wembley performance, and didn't sound like true growls, as the Nightwish Cruise version did.

That is my order. However, to those with a different order, I say, great. I think there are different parts of songs that tickle our brains differently. Doesn't make any of us right or wrong, it's preference.

@@marshalljackson9796 : Yet I don't need any validation or an opinion poll to tell me I'm right. Why? Because how clean a sound is, isn't subjective to opinion. It's objective fact. And fact of the matter is, while Wembley was good for some songs, like Poet and 7 Days, it was not good for Yours Is An Empty Hope. And I can objectively state that Buenos Aires in 2012, for GLS, was worse, in terms of sound balance, than Wacken. I could even say that Nightwish performing at Wacken in 2018 was objectively worse becauase of the weather -- all of these are objective conclusions. Based on objective evidence. Yet, for some reason, I hear all the time subjective opinions that Wembley was somehow a better performance for Yours Is An Empty Hope, when it is clearly, objectively, worse in terms of sound balance and cleanliness. And maybe you, and others, who I have conversated with about this topic, like an overall echo-y sound, or maybe you prefer fry-style vocals. I don't know. But what I do know is, I know sound. I know balance. And the fact of the matter is, the Nightwish Cruise is objectively a better performance, because for that style of song, the venue was smaller, and as a result, the sound was more compact, and didn't lose anywhere the energy as that style of song did at a stadium venue like Wembley. The Nightwish Cruise worked to the advantage of Yours Is An Empty Hope, not to the song's disadvantage as Wembley did. Another adjective I would use to describe Wembley's sound balance is "hollow." It didn't have nearly the body of sound, the density of sound, that the Nightwish Cruise had, and thus, the Wembley version lacks punch or impact. And no amount of stating an opinion will change what is objectively true, whether you like it or not.

The best live permormance ever...🇫🇮...ever...no guestion.

welcome to NW, I 1st heard NW about 20yrs ago,liked a few songs over the yrs,but then I heard about this band called AfterForever with a very tall beautiful & talented singer,when I 1st heard Floor sing a cover of Alone with AF I was SLAYED and since then I have been a fan ,then she came to Nightwish in 2012 and sublime serendipity took place,and so it goes,magic,pure and simple.

And there is even a 3rd one, Troy Donockley, with equal good quality in his voice. I would definitely recommend Ghost River from the same Wacken 2013 gig.

An to think as good as that was. It gets even better. To think also. The singer had only been with the band for 10 months before this proformance. Welcome to NW Gamera Inked, you just met our 6ft Queen Floor Jansen (Dutch) 3rd and current frontwoman of the Finnish Symphonic Metalband NW. She is incredible. 10 Months earlier she came as a substitute for Anette Olzon, who became sick in the middle of a world tour and had to go to the hospital. NW called Floor and she said yes. She had to learn the setlist in 48 hours (there is a documentary about that) and di that on the flight from the Netherlands to Salt Lake City, where she joined the band on their way to Seattle for the next concert. GLS wasn't even on the list, but because she loved this song so much, NW put it on the list. The last part of the song the previous singer(s) didn't do, so she made it her own, with as result 10 months later at Wacken 2013 this MASTERPIECE. You will not be disappointed. Ghost Love Score for excample is the most reacted song to on YT (whoever calculated that :-)). I mean...that says it all, right? I'm sure someone already mentioned this, but Floor had only been with the band for about 10 months at this point. She joined the tour 1/2 through in the USA when the other singer, Annette Olsen, got sick. Floor got a call at her sister's wedding to join them, and she had 48 hours to learn the setlist while flying over from Europe. She was only the fill-in singer until after this show. One of the most amazing singers I've seen in my 68 years.

Jukka was there original drummer, and stepped down because of crippling insomnia. Still with the band in management. His friend Kai from Wintersun stepped in to take his place. Kai is awesome, no question, but Jukka was a beast, and I truly miss his energy. Great reaction!

Great reaction. Floor Jansen is a vocal athlete with incredible range, versatility, vocal stamina, and stage presence. She is a spinto soprano with a range of almost four octaves (D3-G#5-F6). When listening to her sing, it is apparent that she has spent the better part of her life fine-tuning her instrument with help from several vocal coaches. Floor can sing in multiple languages and genres and is a Master vocal coach. It is incredible how she is able to take any song from any genre and make it her own. This woman is a true gift to her craft and an incredible addition to a band that has always been great until 2013 when they officially hired the undisputed Queen of Metal, Floor Jansen, making Nightwish the greatest band on the planet. Welcome to the crazy world of Nightwish. NW Army, Essex branch here. Bizarrely, whilst the band have been around since the mid 90s, Floor Jansen only joined the band, as a stand in singer in 2012, and only became a full time member after this performance, along with Troy Donockley (our only Englishman in the band.) She was only about 32 at the time of Wacken 2013, but has been in the music industry for a long long time before that. For me, she is the best female singer in the world. Songs next...you will get so many suggestions. Sticking with that show for now, something like Song Of Myself, Last Ride Of The Day, or Storytime, would be my initial suggestions. There are some monster songs to build up to, Poet and The Pendulum (emotional overload) & Greatest Show On Earth. Enjoy the ride, it will be worth it.

Since you're in the UK, you might like some nightwish at Wembley 2015. Maybe get some wacken 2013 nightwish songs under your belt first, just to hear more of their sound before going to Wembley 2015.

You want a male vocalist killing it? Try Ever Dream, Ghost River, or Romanticide by Nightwish as well, and you'll get a glimpse of their (former) other vocalist! Then do The Islander and While Your Lips Are Still Red too.

@@BreakdownMediaYT fyi you may want to make your music video screen bigger, the top reactors do the opposite as in large music screen small reactor screen works best for Live performances, your viewers will appreciate it :) cheers
