This live recording is from Wacken Open Air 2013, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). Well Jeff, I am 70, and still like this. Remember that my generation started with the prequels of this kind of music, and than of course I am not talking about the Beatles, but about bands like Genesis, Yes, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Pink Floyd, Jefferson Airplane and the ultimate King Crimson. With modern successors like Porcupine Tree, The Pinapple Thief and indeed certainly also Nightwish. Have you ever heard of Earth and Fire? Much softer, but in the timeframe they were far ahead. I am very happy with bands like Nightwish as they build further on the music of my time. So… it is not really strange that you mom likes this.

You discovered something really special there. The Nightwish journey promises a lot of surprises, delights and emotions. Far beyond their genre, some of the best the music world has to offer.

welcome to the fantastic symphonic metal universe of Nightwish Band, their live performances are some of the things that come so close to epic that they get to be mythical and of course Floor Jansen, queen of the stage and goddess of music, she can sing anything in any musical style she wants (WARNING! her voice, her stage presence, her charisma, in one word: her "spell" is highly addictive). this concert (wacken 2013) is incredibly epic and deserves to be watched and reacted entirely, song by song, in particular I suggest these three songs: "song of myself", "storytime" and "ever dream" this performance of "ghost love score" is one of the three best performances of the nightwish band, together with "the poet and the pendulum" from 2015 concert at the london wembley arena and "the greatest show on earth" from 2015 concert in tampere - finland (actually there is a fourth best performance: "dead boy's poem" from the 2018 concert in buenos aires).

When Floor started singing, the expression you gave was priceless.

@@anaguq4651 I'm 4.5 years into my addiction to Nightwish, they had the power to change me as a person and I will love them forever for that. They are truly life changing and they are all such wonderful people too which makes them even more special. It's strange to find a musical addiction as you enter your 40's, I simply didn't think I'd ever have such passion for a musical group....and here we are. I'm 46 now and I still need my daily Nightwish fix, it really is bizarre.

Nightwish has performed Phantom of the Opera with both their original singer, and with Floor Jansen, their current singer. Both are worth a watch. And yes, they made it rock!

"Christine Daaé as a rock star" - Weeeelll, in 2019, on a dutch TV show called Beste Zangers, she did sing Phantom of the Opera in duet with the original dutch phantom Henk Poort.

The bass player, Marco, also has a fantastic voice that meshes very well with Floor's. Their live stuff is definitely best! Almost every song is an emotional roller coaster ride. Enjoy the journey!

Floor Jansen has this unique Ethereal vocals. Floor has been trained at an academy like a school of rock, she also has been trained in theatrics and also in classical/Opera. Floor can sing in many multiple languages and can growl to. Floor is recently creating a solo project on the side which is very Pop orientated and has done Rock projects as well. Welcome to Nightwish enjoy the stay.

Check out her cover of Shallow from Beste Zangers (Best Singers, a show that airs in her home country of the Netherlands). At some point, you may want to listen to all the songs she performed on the 2019 show. She sings in multiple genres, and in multiple languages.

Nice reaction. From your remarks where you said you'd been surprised in a prior video, I knew you were referencing Pisces =) Floor Jansen, the current Nightwish lead vocalist, can growl if she chooses. She has the most incredible vocal toolkit at her command and it feels to me like she paints with her words - every style choice and execution is about inhabiting the story being told. I find that ability to channel mood and tone one of Floor's finest talents - a true storyteller with enormous heart and ability to take us on a journey. A lot of people who are not used to metal - symphonic metal in the case of Nightwish - end up finding themselves surprised. There is so much variety within the "metal" genre and incredible musicianship and songwriting ability. There are many rabbit holes to fall down, and a lot of interesting experiences to share as a reactor. Keep going 🤘

What a way to start reaction videos... First Jinjer and now Nightwish... Welcome to the World of Symphonic Metal, in my opinion there is no other band that compares to them live. Floor is a freaking goddess and I hope that you continue checking them out / go down the rabbit hole you will not regret it. Wait until you hear Floor and Marco singing together in Songs like Romaticide, Yours is an Empty Hope, Song of myself and some of their epic performances like Greatest Show on Earth and of course The Poet and the Pendulum all of them live!!!

I’m not fully agree with about live concerts. The reasons why, they never have used a full orchestra and choir on their stage. Within Temptation and Epica do and for me the Black Symphony from Within Temptation is the TOP. The Retrospect concert from Epica is also beautiful as well. BS is extremely beautiful with more than a hundred musicians playing together. I think Tuomas is afraid of this kind of things. BTW Floor still deserves a concert with full orchestra and choir.

About the "organ" it is decoration to hide his triple Korg keyboards. Nightwish is finnish Tuomas the keyboard Player once said it was a Tribute to the Finnish violist and composer Jan Sibelius and to his monument in the finnish capital Helsinki, 600+ decorated steel pipes . kzread.info/dash/bejne/h5aLxI-zqZubk8Y.html Knowing Tuomas, there is always a meaning behind everything.

Her ending to this song gives me chills every single time. This live version of the song, she nailed it perfectly. Her vocal performance was so on point and that ending is just mind blowing.

I don't think I have ever heard another singer mix that range, control, agility, mastery of styles and such a beautiful tone so perfectly. I've heard other singers match Floors range, even beat it, but I still haven't heard anyone sit right in that spot that matches her voice - and that's the beauty of it. All singers sound different. Floor's definitely up there with as one of the greatest female singers and easily one of my favorites. This is the perfect song to start with for Nightwish and Floor, but it might surprise you to find out that this is just scratching the surface of what she and this band can do. I hope you check out more. I'll suggest Storytime, Romanticide, Everdream and Song of Myself - all from this show - for starters, but there is so much more. I heard this song on a reaction a year and a half ago now, instantly fell in love, and had to go see them live. They're just that good. The other band I put right next to them as my favorite is Lovebites. Musically and technically, I think the most talented musicians in the world right now, and easily the greatest metal band in the world right now (Nightwish is Symphonic Metal, so I won't include them among that, conveniently lol). Asami, the lead vocalist, was a ballerina, until she was told that she was too small, so then she did backup R&B singing until she was picked to lead Lovebites vocally. She didn't even know what metal was, and she has the most metal voice, ironically. Such a small frame and so much power. She has that in similarity with Floor, but otherwise, sounds nothing like her. Deep, full mid tones and she can belt mixed F5s like they're nothing, but she also has some R&B influence in some of their songs. I recommend checking them out too, in addition to Nightwish. Hard to pick only one though. Like Nightwish, they're a bit too deep in style. I'm going to go against common convention and instead of Holy War suggest Frozen Serenade as a first listen, because it is a masterpiece, and like Ghost Love Score, has a middle section that is a beautiful transition: kzread.info/dash/bejne/c5ls0rOPpZC4fps.html

The most joy I experience when singers, voice teachers hear Floor the first time doing this song. Me a poor singer myself but just fo4 that reason the one who recognizes someone who can actually sing…Floor might be the most versitale singer living today…and for a fact she is the only one making this 54 year old tough metalhead cry on a regular base……

This is one of a handful of live performances that I think are just as perfect as a performance can get. The degree of difficulty is so high and the whole band just nails it. I couldn't recommend enough that you just work your way through as much of Nightwish as you can. Floor is the third lead female vocalist in the band's history and, for my money, is the best of the three. While the other two had their own particular styles, Floor transcends that specificity and can perform anything. Also, the Keyboardist, Tuomas Holopainen, is one of the all-time great songwriter/composers with which the world has ever been graced.

Floor stand 6 feet, 1.5 inches tall in bare feet, and so she's also wearing 5 inch heels here.....she's our Valkyrie Goddess.....the pipes are a facade for a three keyboard set.....the orchestral interlude, and fills, written by by Tuomas Holopainen, the "Metal Mozart" and keyboardist, played by the London Philharmonic.....audience was an intimate little gathering of 82,000....this entire show is available on both DVD and KZread, titled "Showtime, Storytime"......Nightwish Army, South Carolina, USA

Hi Rachel. First of all, welcome to the Matrix. Yes. You stepped into the rabbit hole. Nightwish is one of the best live performance bands in existence. Floor - the singer already spoke of this song on her channel, and yes, she said that she tried to make it "operatic", but not too "round operatic", but rather with the lighter touch of head voice to give it some color. Your NW Journey is just about to begin. Floor Jansen is one of the most diverse singers in most genres. To answer your curiosity, Floor also growls but it’s not showcased so much in NW but in her old band Revamp. Another big name symphonic metal band to check out is Epica. Floor and their singer, Simone are good friends. I recommend Epica-Kingdom of Heaven part 3 Omega alive or Consign to oblivion live in Paris.

You have no idea how accurate your Christine comparison is... Nightwish have done multiple versions of The Phantom of the Opera, as has Floor outside of the band. The older version with their original female lead singer, Tarja, and the bassist, Marko is excellent; as is the more modern version featuring Floor (their 3rd and current female lead singer) with a guest appearance of Henk Poort (who has actually played the Phantom on stage). Floor and Henk also have a duet version sans Nightwish from their participation in the TV show: Beste Zangers (a Dutch collaborative singing reality type show). Their catalog is immense and varied, but you'll enjoy the ride from start to finish.

The original female lead of Nightwish, Tarja, was (still is) known for her operatic style vocals. An average singer feels like an ant in front of an elephant when we hear Floor sing. I know because I used to think I knew how to sing, long ago.

Floor Jansen (pronounced yansen) is classically trained but doesn't call herself an opera singer. For comparison, either as a reaction or on your own, listen to this same song from the End of an Era album which features the first singer with Nightwish who is an opera singer and offers a different take to their songs. I like them both.

You will notice, that there are crazy amount of talented female singers (and males too) in metal. Floor Jansen, Tarja Turunen (og Nightwish), Simone Simons (Epica), Noora Louhimo (Battle Beast), Elize Ryd (Amaranthe), Alissa White-Gluz (Arch Enemy), Netta Laurenne (Smackbound), Sharon den Adel (Within Temptation), and tons of more. And of course Anette Olzon, the 2nd singer of Nightwish, but she got bad reputation of not being so on point at live. I think it was mostly because of bad quality recordings and the fact that her voice suffered from severe touring life.

Welcome to the world of symphonic metal and Nightwish. You have already gotten a ton of info in other comments, so I'll just add that Floor Jansen can do some growls, but not anywhere near what Tatiana does. Keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen is the mastermind and primary songwriter. He isn't big into harsh vocals. Yours is an Empty Hope( from the Wembley 2015 show) is the most you'll get of those. Floor did a little more of the harsh with her former band ReVamp, but again, not to the extent that Tatiana does. Btw, that 'organ type thing' is just set decoration. behind it are 3 Korg keyboards , and a wine rack lol. To continue with this band, please use Gabriel Bardac's list. You don't need to follow any order, but we recommend using his links for whatever song you choose.

You never know what to expect from Nightwish, they are ridiculously versatile an Floor uses all the styles in her armoury as colours on an artists palette to colour the emotions of each song - I know that sounds pretentious by I think it's the truth. I hope you go down the Nightwish rabbit hole because it's an amazing journey. Sub'd 🤘

Great Rayaction! You should do this whole concert, it is the most incredible musical performance I have ever seen, and at 65, I have seen my share. I suggest you start with the opener, Dark Chest of Wonders and continue the entire set (15 songs) to the end, Last Ride of the Day. You will not regret it.
