This is from 1979 so anything Bowie would have been influenced by this, not the other way around.

I think part of the delayed gratification is the poly/complex rhythm. The time signatures defy expectation leading to that feeling. IMO

As always, a quality reaction... Taylor's contralto(?)... amazing range, awesome style. I think this almost brutal anthem is, with video, a strong commentary on the deleterious effects of clinging to an antiquarian myth system. Her 'reveal" is a perfect criticism of the 'women are veesels of sin" rubbish...I note this choraus has a strong similarity to the progression of the chorus of "Death by Rock and Roll"...

Maynard would tell you that your interpretation is absolutely right…for you. He wants most of his lyrics to be open for interpretation. I’ve always take the song as a clarion call to be a better person. Evolve. Grow.

The only naturally born artist was the founder of the group Sid Barrett. He was so unique and his style skyrocketed them into fame but the fame and drugs destroyed his career. The other members were excellent musicians and were inspired by Barrett to become artists in their own right. Some of their songs after Barrett are grievously about him ...Namely, "Brain Damage", "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" and "High Hopes". Everything we know about Pink Floyd has everything and nothing to do with Sid Barrett.

This song is a "by myself" song. It brings up a lot, and seems to flow out of me during this song. But its cathartic, Chester heals me a little more every time it gets to the part Chester sings "well I do". Thank you Chester for the light you continue to shine on us.

This was the song that started the "power ballad" craze the every other band started to copy. Mtv had implement the "crue" rule stating no song could be the most requested for like longer than 30 days or something like that. Home sweet home was played around the clock for months on end being the most requested.

Personally, I'm just tickled by the expressions of confusion and disgust of our hostess. It is a strange peculiarity that we live in an age that is meant to be welcoming, open, tolerant and accepting, and yet when some music is played with grit, bass and attitude, confusion and disgust are often the go-to responses. Funny, that.
