Hello Jenna [ Koality Reactions ] ! Nightwish fan here, your musical quest summoned me. Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! This live recording is from Wacken Open Air 2013, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps. I want to welcome you to the Nightwish community. I hope you like them enough to continue the journey. Believe me Nightwish will surprise you with their songs. You will never know what to expect. They are unbelievable live. I want to warn you that Nightwish fans are hard core. So be prepared. lol " For an extended set of suggestion (with links), I posted 2 huge comments in the community tab in my main YT channel: www.youtube.com/@gabriel.bardac/community 🤘

Thank you Gabriel!! (I love that the Nightwish community is so tight-knit that everyone knows you're the bringer of Nightwish info.) Ahhh symphonic mental... this makes a lot of sense now. It did feel much more symphonic than what I was expecting. So cool that they worked with the London Philharmonic Orchestra! Thank you for the warm welcome and all the band history. So lovely you're doing it in Ann's memory. I'll definitely be listening to more Nightwish, so thanks for the recommendations (and the links). Appreciate you! 🤍

@@KoalityReactions Now it's 11 PM here, and I found some time to review your reaction. First observation: the one who recommended Nightwish to you as an introduction to the Metal genre has all my respect, because this band has proven over time to be a real gateway for non-metalheads into a new musical universe. This is my situation as well, until a few years ago I listened to other genres of music, but only after listening to Nightwish did I feel that I had truly arrived at home, that my horizons had opened. As for her capabilites: With this song you are just scratching the surface of what she can do. Check out the other songs at this concert. 15 in total and they are all bangers. Nightwish is from Finland, the current female lead, Floor Jansen, is Dutch, from the Netherlands. Rock opera is close to, or partly, what Nightwish is about, but the genre is called symphonic metal. The original female lead vocalist, Tarja, was more operatic than Floor, the 3rd female lead of Nightwish, you just heard her. She can sing from operatic to growling. The pipes are just for looks. There are 3 keyboards behind it. Synthesizers and piano. They also have a backing track recorded by a symphony orchestra, because there's a limit how much Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboardist, can do live on stage. He writes vast majority of Nightwish songs. (He can play pipe/church organ. He was given the chance to play one huge organ in Helsinki Music Hall. "Holopainen chuch organ Kantrilehti" A 2 minute video on Kantrilehti channel. Kantrilehti is the Finnish for Country Magazine)

I thought it must be some kind of keyboard with the pipes just being for looks (because it didn't sound like an organ), but it looked VERY cool. I love that they worked with an orchestra, it definitely adds to the sound! Symphonic metal is very cool... never knew this was a thing. Excited!

We (Nightwish fans) know exactly that the band is super, dope, cool, etc. but we expect from reactors to tell us why they think like that and that's what you did in yor reaction. So, welcome in the amazing world of Nightwish and symphonic metal. It;s combination of two very close to each other music genras (clasic music and metal). Nightwish (IMHO) is the best band in this genra and Floor Jansen (lead singer) is the best vocalist on this planet. Gabriel Bardac will give you list of the suggestions. I agree with most of them so I won't be writing here my own. Best regarts from Poland, your new subscriber.

welcome to the fantastic symphonic metal universe of Nightwish Band, their live performances are some of the things that come so close to epic that they get to be mythical and of course Floor Jansen, queen of the stage and goddess of music, she can sing anything in any musical style she wants (WARNING! her voice, her stage presence, her charisma, in one word: her "spell" is highly addictive). this concert (wacken 2013) is incredibly epic and deserves to be watched and reacted entirely, song by song, in particular I suggest these three songs: "song of myself", "storytime" and "ever dream" this performance of "ghost love score" is one of the three best performances of the nightwish band, together with "the poet and the pendulum" from 2015 concert at the london wembley arena and "the greatest show on earth" from 2015 concert in tampere - finland (actually there is a fourth best performance: "dead boy's poem" from the 2018 concert in buenos aires).

When you want to go further on the path of our 1.83m (6ft.+) tall Dutch Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen besides Nightwish, here is some background information on the best and most versitale female singer of our time. Floor joined the band 'After Forever' in 1997 at the age of 16. Here are some of my favourites: Energize me: kzread.info/dash/bejne/mJ6hlqSrfqTMZtY.html Monolith of Doubt: kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZYihraqkgduaZbg.html Dreamflight: kzread.info/dash/bejne/aWdhwahyoNXeZKw.html Floor attended the then new Rock Academy in 1999 and graduated in 2003. She also studied 2 years at the Conservatory (1 year Music Theatre and 1 year Opera). Here is a link to a part of a TV show (with english subtitles) of the reunion of the class of the Rock Academy with mostly backstage footage of the Tampere concert of Nightwish in 2015: kzread.info/dash/bejne/dGeCq8iuYNTcpMo.html 'After Forever' disbanded in 2009 and Floor started her own band 'Revamp' from scratch. Here she experimented with different vocal styles within one song from full operatic to death growls in seconds. Here are some examples: Misery’s no Crime: kzread.info/dash/bejne/hYKEx9WFdrfUhco.html Disdain: kzread.info/dash/bejne/pn2l3LKRqsurpdo.html Besides managing a band on her own she also did a lot of vocal coaching and as she is a perfectionist, she wants to do everything at 100%+. Eventually she had to pay the price and got a burnout. She had just recovered when end of september 2012 the call came from Nightwish to fill in for the remainder of the North American Tour at first as their second singer Annette got ill. Floor had just 48 hours to learn the whole setlist. There is a documentary made of this world tour: kzread.info/dash/bejne/qJx52s2mh66zdbg.html Floor joined Nightwish after this iconic Wacken concert in 2013 as permanent member of the band. Floor continued to perform with 'Revamp’ also, but it was clear that she could not combine the two for much longer, so 'Revamp' disbanded in 2016. Floor did a side project called 'Northward' where she dived into the Hard Rock scene. The song 'While Love Died is a must see:: kzread.info/dash/bejne/lHWdsseMo9SqXZc.html A suggestion to a christmas song sung by Floor. Here is a link to a performance in Finland with a special guest with the best seat you could imagine: kzread.info/dash/bejne/q6FlucVulNC7icY.html Her stunning performances on the Dutch TV show 'Beste Zangers 2019' gave her at last some more recognition in her home country where she was relatively unknown until then. There are numerous guest appearances with other bands to find on KZread. To see how to get a crowd of metalheads silenced and in awe watch her featuring with the band 'Epica' and the song 'Stabat Mater Dolorosa:, kzread.info/dash/bejne/g6WY2KiJcqq0YMY.html and to see her in full opera mode, watch her rendition of 'O Mio Babbino Caro' from Puccini: kzread.info/dash/bejne/h5mI26OTpLmbp6w.html As live concerts were cancelled and home isolation due to the Covid situation, Floor discovered KZread in these years. Mindblowing covers, chats with her idols and other singers, vocal masterclasses, personal insights and so much more. She even made a video reacting to herself singing Ghost Love Score at Wacken. Lots of technical info and some memories of her starting with Nightwish:. kzread.info/dash/bejne/g4uTlahqaJnFZbQ.html Also her Fan Friday videos are hilarious. Just unpack some of the presents she left on her channel. Also videos of her solotour she did with songs of her impressive career. Her latest endeavour is her stunning solo album ‘My Paragon.Floor is a high sensitive person, so peace and quiet is as important for her. Living by the woods in Sweden with her husband Hannes Van Dahl (drummer of the band Sabaton), daughter Freja (turned 6 years last march), and another on its way, a horse and pony, a dog and a bunch of cats, she found this.

@@KoalityReactionsplease keep "The Greatest Show on Earth" and "The Poet and The Pendulum" on stand-by, at least for a little while (even if they are frequently requested): I think you will appreciate them better, once you have some other Nightwish songs under your belt (there's plenty of them: all bangers, every one is a journey of its own, no one is similar to another). I liked your reaction: yes metal has a lot of sub-genres, so everyone could find his/her cup of tea... Tuomas (founder, keyboardist and main composer of Nightwish) doesn't like harsh vocals, while Floor (current singer) did like them when in her previous bands (After Forever and ReVamp). If you want to dig deeper into the vocals topic I suggest you another rabbit hole: try "Pisces" by the band Jinjer. Like the zodiac sign the title refers to, there is a certain... duality in this song's vocals. Definitively worth a reaction! Greetings from Italy and good luck for your channel! 👋🇮🇹🖖

Welcome to the wonderful world of Nightwish and the genre Symphonic Metal. It is indeed a deep, deep rabbit hole!! Nightwish Wacken 2013 was one of those moments when a band completely clicked, every single song from the entire set is a banger, and its even more impressive when you know Floor had only joined the band about 10 months earlier while they were touring the US (she took the call to come sing for them and had just 48 hours to get to the US and learn the set list before she did her first show with the band!) And yes, describing "metal" music can be confusing as it covers so many sub-genres and styles, symphonic metal being one of them. Don't worry about it, let your ears and brain work out what you like and what you don't, not every piece is going to be to your tastes, and that's perfectly okay. Just enjoy the journey.

@@KoalityReactionsOh undoubtedly, its the only way to listen to music imho, you either like something or you don't and no amount of being told that something is good /bad matters, its down to your own ears/brain/heart telling you what you like. Unfortunately, in the world of reactions, you'll get a lot of opinions being thrown at you but as the old saying goes "opinions are like arse-holes......everyone has got one!!" NW is a perfect example, you'll often hear some quite strong statements about NW's original singer Tarja and how she's better than Floor and "the true Queen of NW" etc, and then others will defend Floor (and poor Annette in the middle gets kind of forgotten!!) but these people forget that we are blessed to have had 3 great singers in the band and each played their part in the evolution of the group, each helped to make NW what they are today. People focus to much on "better" as if its a competition all the time instead of thinking "different".

You have just been Floored, as so many have said of reviewers in the past as they encounter Floor Jansen for the first time. Welcome to Nightwish. In the mid 1990s this Finnish band INVENTED the genra of operatic female singer backed by a metal band. Every group from Epica to Evanescence have credited Nightwish as their inspiration. Their original singer Tarja Turunen was a classically trained (opera) singer. Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboardist, is the composer and lyricist for the vast majority of their songs. It took some time and a few shakeups, but they finally found Floor Jansen, a singer song writer in her own right. Floor is also a classically trained singer, as her amazing breath control and range attest. In addition to her oparetic power vocals, she also growls. Be sure to check out Epica for the talented Simone Simmons. After Forever and ReVamp are other collaborative efforts Floor fronted. Trivia: • Floor Jansen, Nightwish's third lead singer was good friends with Tarja, their first lead singer. They have appeared together doing duets at Tarja's concerts. • Floor was also good friends with Simone Simmons of Epica, both of whom are from the Netherlands.

You really can't go wrong with any of the Beste Zangers. The theme is a number of artists from the Netherlands get together and each gets a day where the other sing songs in his or her style. Metal is not big in the Netherlands and Floor was practically unknown even by most of the other singers. She opened the show and literally stunned everyone. She went on to stun everyone each week. IMO its best to start with the Opener for Henk Poort ( Vilija Lied ) and IMO best to use the English subtitled episodes that really give you a feel for her and the others. I am a huge fan of Nightwish but this show really showcases her talent and the fact she could dominate any type of music she chose to focus on. Really a generational talent, and although I am a fanboi I believe an objective statement.

Hello, lovely lady! NightWish huge, long-time fan/addict here! lol. I just came across your channel and I enjoyed your reactions to this incredible band, you've got a new subscriber right here and several thumbs up! Welcome to the Nightwish ship of wonders!! lol🤘❤ And thank you for this reaction btw, Ioved it! They are such an epic, extraordinary, legendary band, as you surely know by now! I'm so glad to see so many people on YT reacting to Nightwish and thus coming to know their music this way! Nightwish lore spreading all around!!!🤘🖤 Yeah! haha. I mean, you witnessed it, their music is so... Gods, no mundane word is enough to describe such magnificent otherworldly realm that they've created through their Music!!! Pure magic, regardless of who's the singer they're working with! So please continue in the path of this fantanstic musical journey with them! Btw, since dear Gabriel has already come here to give you the summary of the NW lore and history, I guess you're already familiar with most of it and know that they had three lead singers so far: Tarja Turunen (first one and co-founder of the band, from 1996 to 2005); Anette Olzon (from 2007 to 2012); and Floor Jansen (third singer, the one you heard, who sings with them since 2013). Well, I don't know if you're taking suggestions from the comment sections but, I certainly hope so for I have plenty lol. I hope you're willing to take this fantastic journey through all of their music (I believe anyone starting to know their work should give a listen to them in all eras, including their origins with Tarja and their middle era with Anette, so you can have a full insight of their lore, style, evolution and Art). So if that's alright I'd like to drop down here my recommendations from them in Tarja's era (yeah, I do have a reeaally soft spot for her😆, although I love all of them especially Floor), since from what I've seen you reacted to NW songs with the amazing Floor (others can recommend you more songs from her era), and I'm more of an "old school Nightwisher" (although I absolutely LOVE them in all eras!🤘💘), moreover I'd like to not make this comment any longer that it will already be lol. Afterwards I'll be also suggesting songs from Tarja's stunning solo career, her work is different from anything you've seen and deserves more attention, it's creative and overall mindblowing, plus 'tis inspiring how she's constantly growing and improving herself as an artist and a person, and only through her solo career you get to really know her artistry! I really do hope you're willing to take this fantastic journey through the Art all of these phenomenal artists deliver to the world, it's so worth it! Now before we continue, I'd only like to add that I enjoy NW's music from all eras with all three lead singers they had because they're an incredible band, and although I'm a huge Tarja fan (or Tarjaholic, as some would call us ahaha) - and think she's very unique and brought NW to a whole new level combining her stunning dark, absolutely beautiful and powerful operatic vocals (her rich timbre I must say is rare and uncommon even into the classical music universe) with Tuomas' genius -, I love, respect, support and appreciate all their singers as the equally great, amazingly talented musicians they undoubtedly are in their own different ways and rights (that's a fact only the blind don't see, all else is just a matter of personal taste and preference imo), each of them brought special, individual elements to the band that helped them grow, mature and develop their artistic identity. As a fan, I strongly believe we are blessed to have witnessed three amazing talented ladies fronting NW and should just enjoy the gift the whole band (all members, past and present) deliver us with their timeless Art, and I think we should feel grateful and honored for that, regardless of our personal preferences. That being said, without further ado, back to NW in Tarja's era (I tried to make a selection as short as I could, really difficult to choose from their vast, outstanding repertoire lol, but there's so much more to explore as you go): 1. kzread.info/dash/bejne/i4N4pa9rZq2-f7w.html . "Ghost Love Score", song from their album "Once", performed in the iconic "End of an Era" DVD. (Curious fact: Tarja was very sick with a severe throat infection during this concert in 2005 - the last time ever the band and her performed together before their dramatic breakup. She didn't even know if she'd be able to sing that night, yet she did it marvellously! So if this is not the best she can do, just you imagine how damn incredible she is at her best!😍Remember this everytime you react to this concert lol). This is one of their greatest masterpieces of all times! Floor also sings this one differently but beautifully🖤 (you just reacted to her version) and I love both, but I personally love the way Tarja sings it, I feel like she deeply understands the crucial importance of the instrumentals (especially the epic orchestral arrangement and choir), and the unspoken soul of the song, so she doesn't sing it like it was all about her voice and it's clearly intentional; if you listen closely sometimes she even seems to use her voice like an instrument, often blending her sound at the end of some phrases with the orchestra's (which in Floor's version was made lower probably to match her style better), becoming one living soul with the music. It's just so perfect imo! 2. kzread.info/dash/bejne/poBml9SbntmzZNI.html . "The Phantom of the Opera", also live from the End of an Era concert; yes, that's their astonishing version of the song from the same-name A. L. Webber's musical. Tarja in the role of Christine and Marko as the Phantom 😍🤘. Just mindblowing, that's all I have to say for now! 3. kzread.info/dash/bejne/fomtmraYY87Plaw.html . "The Siren", another iconic "must listen" masterpiece, also from End of an Era. Tarja becomes The Siren here, so mesmerizing! Here you get to hear different layers of her singing she rarely used while with NW, apart from unique dark classical vocals: she uses a soft, drawing, mystic almost ethereal voice, and also a sort of arabic/gypsy chanting style! Really beautiful, mystical and enthralling imo! 4. kzread.info/dash/bejne/fnWjt7mOZLLWpNI.html . "Bless the Child", live at Raumanmeri in 2003, song from the 2002 album "Century Child". Another brilliant song and performance! If you wish, there's also the official video for this song, quite beautiful and breathtaking. 5. kzread.info/dash/bejne/no6bzdqgm6uceZs.html . "Planet Hell", also from "End of an Era" dvd (song originally from "Once" as well). Heavy! Tarja & Marko!😍 They rock so freaking amazing together!🤘 6. kzread.info/dash/bejne/iIeBpaZsaaivfcY.html . "Kuolema tekee taiteilijan", also from "End of an Era" dvd (and originally from "Once" as well). I put this ballad because it's simply beautiful and so very touching (plus, it's in finnish, their native language, and I love it!) The translation of the title is something like "Death makes an artist"... 7. kzread.info/dash/bejne/fGuCmq-em8iuYpM.html . "Wishmaster", also live from "End of an Era". Great performance of another iconic song! 8. kzread.info/dash/bejne/fI2KzpiGf72-edY.html . This is "Swanheart", live performance from 2001 dvd "From wishes to Eternity". The song is originally from their album "Oceanborn". This is gold, probably their most Beautiful ballad ever! If you wish there's also this 2013 version from Tarja's solo career: kzread.info/dash/bejne/hqp6uMZ-hJbUl5c.html in which she performs with an orchestra and choir, a beautiful arrangement and her vocals are so thrilling and emotional! 9. kzread.info/dash/bejne/pnqH08OFe7vgp7w.html . "Slaying the Dreamer", live from End of an Era DVD. Heavy, bombastic, mindblowing, phenomenal!! A little "belting" from Tarja, plus she and all of them headbanging hard 😍 gets me headbanging along🤘 10. kzread.info/dash/bejne/d5OGtK-LiK29qKw.html . "Sleeping Sun", live from End of an Era. Such an Iconic ballad, truly beautiful, astounding! 11. kzread.info/dash/bejne/YoWoxrOKnsiYhNY.html . "Passion and the Opera", this one is actually performed in Tarja's solo career, 'twas in 2007 (therefore after her departure from the band). I don't think they ever performed this song live together, neither did the other singers as far as I know. Anyway it's sooo amazing!!! In this song Tuomas seems to make "subtle" musical mentions of Mozart's "Queen of the Night" aria, from his opera "The Magic Flute". Love this and Tarja is gorgeous, showcases much of her vocal skills and powerful energy on stage! 12. kzread.info/dash/bejne/hIOYrdSAhrnbeZs.html . "Dark Chest of Wonders", also live from "End of an Era", the openning title of the concert. Brilliant, heavy yet flowing like a river! 13. kzread.info/dash/bejne/nn1mubSLaM--l6g.html . "Ever Dream", another iconic and great song, also live from End of an Era. Floor also sings this one just as beautifully. 14. kzread.info/dash/bejne/eXtst7CbeZWxfZc.html . "10th Man Down", from EP "Over the Hills and Far Away", and performance is live at the Summer Breeze Fest in 2002. Baby NW and they're already grand! Now to Tarja's solo career in the next comment...😆

Jacksonville Fl. Division of the Nightwish Army on board. Thank you for an excellent reaction video to our Nightwish. You are classy, well spoken and excellent at articulating your thoughts, emotions and feelings. There will be some excellent guidelines offered from the fanbase, to help you navigate the waters of your Nightwish journey, my only advise would be to do a little research before tackling The Poet And The Pendulum as well as The Greatest Show On Earth. You will get so much more out of your experience, if you know the context. Once again, great job, and best wishes.

"Heavy metal", from which all further metal subgenres originated, was originally a rather melodic, epic genre and strong clean vocals were typical for heavy metal from the very beginning. Nightwish in general and symphonic metal in particular directly descended from the heavy metal genre. If you imagined metal as something more aggressive, with growls, blastbeats and angry lyrics, then these are other "branches" of the metal evolution. Although there may also be elements of more extreme music in symphonic metal. In the last 25-30 years, aggressive metal subgenres have become more common, so some (especially younger) people may even doubt whether Nightwish is metal. The truth is that Nightwish has inherited the traditions of the original heavy metal to a greater extent than those more extreme bands with which metal is associated these days. For example, Iron Maiden is one of the legendary bands that defined the sound of heavy metal. If you listen to them, I think you'll hear some of similarities with Nightwish and symphonic metal. Here, for example, is a good example of Iron Maiden music, "Hallowed Be Thy Name" from a concert in 1982: kzread.info/dash/bejne/aaqElMp_drmbZ6g.html

Yesss, I did imagine it being much heavier with a lot of growling vocals. So this makes sense. Very cool - thank you for the history! I’m glad I’m learning that there’s different sub genres of metal. Can’t wait to listen to more! I’ve definitely heard of the band Iron Maiden but I probably can’t recall a specific song. I’ll def listen to them! Thanks!

@@KoalityReactions Try '80s metal' for the older/original mostly-clean-vocals style of the genre (I@m not a big fan of the later harsh-vocals style either). Some bands to listen to are Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin (actually all from the 70s), then Iron Maiden, AC/DC (Rock rather than metal, but great anyway), Judas Priest, Rainbow, Dio, Metallica. The other classic symphonic metal band that pretty-much invented the genre is Therion. They started doing this sort of thing about 3 years before Nightwish formed, and they are still going too, through numerous changes in personel and style. They've been big on choirs and having 3-4 vocalists. One band with some harsh vocals that you might like is Epica - probably the 2nd-most successful symphonic metal band in the world (after Nightwish). Oh and you need to check out Ayreon too, which is more of a fascinating musical project than a band. That lot should keep you entertained for a while. There are of course hundreds more bands and loads of great music, but you want to start gently :-) This is a deep hole you about to fall into...

Thank you for mentioning the Band's performance! I'm a Nightwish fan for 22 years and a Floor fan for 19 years and I was there 2013 and what a surprise it was for me to see both of them going together now, I had tears in my eyes through the whole concert. So every now and then it's time for me to witness a new lucky "I've never heard something from Nightwish before" victim and they are always so absolutely and legitimately amazed by Floor's performance. But this masterpiece of a song and the whole entire concert was just pure perfection by the whole band. If it's only ghost love score, you can listen to it over and over again always focussing on another band member. Have you noticed Jukka the drummer? Are you aware of what Tuomas is doing there? Just look, listen and feel what is happening there! 🤘❤️‍🔥

The genre is called "symphonic metal" and ideally it should be performed with a full orchestra behind the band. But only (to my knowledge) the band Epica did that at their 10th anniversary concert and they must have lost a lot of money then. By the way, this singer Floor Jansen (pronounce Yansen) sings two songs during that concert too with her good friend Simone Simons who is the lead singer of Epica. Floor Jansen is Dutch, performs in metal bands since whe was 16 and was trained at the rock acadamy in Tilburg (NL) and a few years of music university (opera) which she did not finish. She went in the direction of musical theatre (together with metal her true love) and she learned stage presence from a musical theatre teacher. Floor calls herself a vocal nerd. She is a HSP and has absolute hearing, and is a staunch perfectionist. She recently started a solo career besides Nightwish doing (good) pop songs she mostly wrote herself, focussing on mental health in all its aspects. (album My Paragon). She chose pop, because she had never done that before. She is regarded inside and outside the metal community as the best female singer of her generation, mainly because she can sing everyting, death growls, switching to full opera on a dime and everyting in between. She has many, many colors in her voice, without losing her vocal identity. If you want to see the masterpiece of Nightwish, it is in my opinion the Poet and the Pendulum, by far. And I am not even a metal fan.

Welcome to Nightwish. Great reaction. Glad to see that you will be continuing your NW journey and that you have chosen Storytime as the next song. Both GLS and Storytime are on the softer side of their catalog and are perfect for dipping your toes into the world of metal. To contrast that, you may want to check out Romanticide and Yours is an Empty Hope (see Gabriel's links for the proper versions) to check out the heavier side. I think you will be surprised how quickly you can get into that as well. Ghost Love Score is the very tip of the iceberg for what NW and Floor can do, and it serves as a great sampler platter of some of what you will get, but there is so much more. Also, NW has had 3 phenomenal lead singers Tarja Turunen, Anette Olzon, and Floor Jansen) in their history and each has brought something special to the group. In addition, Floor has some amazing solo stuff and songs with other bands that will be worth a listen. Plus every member of this band, both past and present, are of the highest caliber. You will quickly come to know each member as they all stand out in their own way. Since the band is Finnish and Floor is Dutch, here are some pronunciation tips to help with names: In many countries, cultures, languages a J is pronounced as a Y, so Jansen = Yansen Tarja = Tarya and in German the W is pronounced as a V, so Wacken = Vahken You will find the following to be true - your favorite Nightwish song is the last one you have listened to!

Also, I see recommendations for The Greatest Show on Earth and The Poet and the Pendulum. Both are absolutely amazing, but I would personally recommend to work your way towards these. I think they hit better when you have more familiarity with the band, their catalog, and each of the members. Especially with The Poet and the Pendulum, since there is a very personal back story to this song as it relates to the band in general and to Tuomas Holopainen, their keyboardist and main songwriter, specifically. There are videos and other websites that explain this in detail and it is very much worth doing the research in advance. I believe Tuomas is properly pronounced as 3 syllables - Tu-o-mas. Someone can correct me if that is wrong. 😀
