For Night Beats’ Levitation Session, Danny Lee Blackwell and his band ventured out into the Mojave Desert and recorded a discography spanning 13 track set on reel-to-reel tape, featuring classic Night Beats tracks and a chance to hear some jams off their new LP “Outlaw R&B” in the live setting. The show features original Night Beats drummer James Traeger, The Black Angels’ Ramiro Verdooren on guitar, Chris Maciel on Bass, Mikey Whiteside on keys and as always, Danny Lee on lead guitar and vox.
Recording with all analog equipment in the blazing Mojave heat was a test of both the band and their vintage gear (they even had to put ice on their guitar pedals to keep them operational), but well worth the trouble because they emerged from the desert with a dusty, warm-hued rock n roll artifact ready to share with the world. More than just a cool location, the desert provided Night Beats an opportunity to tap into something deeper in the Mojave:
"For our Levitation Session we recorded on reel-to-reel 1/2 inch tape in the middle of the Mojave Desert in Antelope Valley. Due to my natural tendencies to explore the layers of my ancestry and being forever inspired by the beautiful sounds coming out of the Saharan desert, I wanted to challenge myself to produce a recording that doesn't filter but fully embraces a similar environment. A search for symbiosis between the music and the ground it’s made on. Thanks to a place I love and respect, a welcomed challenge, and some of my closest friends, what you are hearing is Night Beats in one of its truest and rarest forms. Thank you for listening and thank you to those who lived on and cherished this land before us."

i didnt know them until i went to Austin Psych Fest 2023, i watched them from in front of the sound booth and a very tall bald man blocked the sun for me with his enormous head for their entire set, it was by all means a perfect set.
Amazing set, loved it! Found this session by accident and I am so happy I did. I was listening to skate music and this video was in the recommendeds, so yeah ^_^
I just discovered this channel and....I'm speachlees.

I remember seeing these guys open for The Black Angels ~2012 - absolutely amazing band and I love how their sound has evolved but stayed true to their roots.

Likewise, man the guitar soloing around 14:00 - 14:77 repeating again even stronger right after the vox go back out till the end of that track strengthens the soul. Yes thanks Lev Ses' for introducing us to this and so much great music. Right now, 2022 after Pandemia we are being hit from every side of the USA & The world Canada's world of King Khan, Mark Sultan,Bloodshot Bill and all their colleagues and collaborations, that's the sign of an areas scene, like Bright Eyes and their label and all the interchanging members Saddle Creek I believe, Jay Reatard and all those who helped him come up, recorded him after & even during his constant self recordings, then all the bands he helped bring up and recorded, he alone birthed 8 bands,still goin ,after he passed. Thankyou Memphis, Mexico's Margaritas Podrisas, Iceland's scene, Idaho's scene ,check out Finn Riggins, their label and all those bands sharing members all on the same label, OCS ,their female vocalist now with her own band, The Black Lips, they alone have so many members, past and present,they alone could be responsible for a whole neighborhood! Southwest scene's now defunct, still legendary, NOBUNNY , W him comes Shannon Shaw's Shannon and the Clams, Hunx and his Punx, his dance project H.U.N.X. . OH Memphis' Magic Kids , our generations Beach Boys. There's the Twin Cities scene. It's all been known as The New Garage Rock Explosion. Then you have with bands like Dr.Dog, Delta Spirit, that girl who left OCS new band and a host of other bands that make up a whole scene called New Classic Rock, bands that sound like Wings, Bachman ,Turner, Overdrive, CCR, Bearded era Beach Boys, last album bearded Beatles. It goes on and on ! I mean I can go into more detail ,which honestly would take way to long but I could tell you how history repeats itself as we all know and things such as King Khan & the Shrines are our generation's James Brown, Mark Sultan's voice the reincarnation of Otis Redding, OCS=MC5, SHANNON SHAW's country solo album = Patsy Cline, Bloodshot Bill = ELVIS ,Sultan's latest Coffin Nails , a whole new direction for him with a full band and farfisa organ sounds beautifully like The Animals & THEM. it is truly amazing. What a time. A perfect time actually for MTV to actually but sadly will not, but should return to their original programming so such cool videos by so many like videos by Shannon & the clams, Hunx, Black Lips, Tandoori knights, Saba Lou, Dr. DOG, Almighty Defenders, Japanese Motors, Oblivians, Dr.Dog, OCS could all be seen on tv like the start of Grunge only that was just Seattle this is literally now the world who have said ENOUGH Pop music, all these bands,labels like we haven't even discussed musical impresario/band leader, creative genius,vocal trickster Mike Patton Ipecac Records founder who can vocally flip from Italian opera to Screamcore metal bands, rapper, r&b vocalist to a lil to the left of straightfoward mainstream rock band leader for Faith No More to experimental Mr. Bungle, death metal screamer for Dead Cross and all the new bands on his label. The problem..? Not 1 8f these bands are heard on satellite radio, theres no MTV, You have to just know, you have to take yourself down the rabbit hole on KZread, bandcamp, all the various online places but if you dunno what you're looking for then you will just hear what youve heard. Only by chance thru shows on Netflix have I heard ppl discovering bands like Harlem. Maybe I should use this post along with my news articles from booking bands and crowned King of the music scene booking bands in my area for a channel on Sirius Satellite Radio? Hmmm.... Happy Listening

Inconfundible su sonido, qué gran banda. Qué personalidad sonora. los sigo desde el primer disco. Éramos realmente pocoS, y ellos eran tres.
I saw them @ Beach Goth Festival back in 2015 & was instantly hooked with the powerful performance. It's really interesting to see how their sound has evolved. Really digging the soulful sound in the more recent albums.
