Not true. My 11 year old nephew is almost the same way, except he is autistic (the real kind) and has a photographic memory, he can draw a hyper-realistic portrait or scene with many details from memory, it's pretty unbelievable how he does it but compared to Kareem it's rare that he draws, which is a shame. I'm pretty sure there are many more examples of kids like him out there but what I think makes Waris Kareem different is his roots, a child art prodigy coming out from a city like Lagos is a rare sight indeed, for many it's a feel good story which has gained him international recognition. I hope he gets a manager or someone that can do PR for him so he can take advantage of the situation and make some money from it since adult hyper-realistic artists are not rare.

not to take away from this young mans extraordinary talent.. but there are "savants" around the world doing these kinds of pictures from a very young age. for example look up the art of Akiane Kramarik when she started doing hyperrealistic art at the age of 8. she was featured on oprah at the age of 9.. etc.

I think coping anime is ok if u are learning but when u have been doing it for along time you have to get to a point where u can draw anime or cartoons of by heart. Temmy Id i mean autistic like brain autistic, autistic like people who are super good at math to a point where it is closer to a computer than a humain being, well, here that’s the same for drawing, you just can’t be that good at the age of 8 when you’re "normal", it doesn’t mean that their is no training behind it, but you just can’t make hyper realistic drawing that good and that fast at that age. I highly suggest you to go check a Korean named « Kim jung gi », he’s a monster who trained a lot every day, but he’s also a bit autistic, so he can remember everything he wanna draw without having a model and can draw for hours on big surface

It is used to influence people. This is not art, this is just stupidly copying a photograph taken by a camera, which is pointless, a printer would do a better job. You have to learn about design, balance, anatomy and a long list of things, ideologies and philosophies even before you can start thinking like an artist.

The mother is wise, we must not interfere with a child's natural inclinations, if we do, it is like prying open a blossoming flower; you might damage it's delicate petals and never know what it really would have been. Be patient and see what God has nurtured within them and let it come out with encouragement and support. My child asked for a guitar at 5 yrs., but I thought piano for little ones and they wouldn't start them till 7 yrs., so I consulted a guitar teacher and he said, you should start where the child wants to start (of course!) so obvious, so it was guitar. I then endured the sounds for years until one day I almost said, "could you knock it off," but I bit my lip and said to myself, "leave it, it isn't time wasted, leave it alone." Then one day shortly after that, I heard a song, then another song, and I asked where did you get that music and was told, "I made it!" at 18 my child had written and composed their own album, a direction that was a complete surprise to us. Don't push, pull, or drag, but walk beside them and observe the flower opening and what a delightful surprise it will be then, no matter what they do, because everything that isn't wicked has value, from the laborer to the hair cutter the seamstress the farmer the artist.

@@herasean5720 I want to thank you for your comment, it means a lot to me. I gave up my career 20 years ago to pour myself into this wonderful job of raising children. I would say, look for any good in your parents, because we all have some, and learn from their mistakes so you can be the parent, when the time comes, that you wished you'd had.

This boy is gifted beyond words and his personality has brought me to tears. He is a beautiful boy and super intelligent! God bless this wonderful child!!!

Imagine all the untapped talent all around the world like this who haven't had the opportunity to showcase and/or refine it because of a lack of resources and support.

My country is one of those “art is a hobby not a career” sorta thing where parents try to encourage kids to follow more academic paths than artistic ones and there’s not a lot of formal education, and what we do have is very barebones. The better stuff comes from independent artists and tutors and can be pretty expensive. As an art kid who didn’t get this kinda thing growing up outside of my parents just encouraging me, i hope that waris helps people realize that art should be just as valued as being an engineer, doctor, lawyer, or whatever other occupation.

Or genetic issues and sudden environmental events and trauma. I mean, living happy and in line with one's own ressources is kinda mostly a luck-based thing. Some are born lucky or wealthy or able-bodied and some are born with the fundamental properties to have an easy time. Some are starting with adhd while others seems to have better working executive functions than the median.

Sadly it's the opposite for me, drawing is painful and extremely boring for me, have to force myself everyday with the lack of drive and motivation I have, lost all that passion for about a year now, and I don't know how to regain it, maybe depression and social anxiety plays a big role too, wish I could went back into my kids days where I had no stress and only thought about having fun

I am one of those people. I was a savant on the trumpet wnen i was eleven years old and my parent didn't care. I could read and write music but my mother took my trumpet and hit me above the eye and hit me over the head.

@@Jabafish No because they dislocated my jaw and didn't take me to the hospital and my jaw couldn't be fixed after I was adult. They didn't have the technology to fix my jaw after the fact. We're talking 1970. It would cost me $60,000 to fix it and the cost of a new set of teeth on top of it. Technology took too long.

I have had an interest in business when I was in my primary years and the fact that I have sell candies and other snacks in schools but my father wanted me to maintain my place as first honor in my class since grade one till I graduate as valedictorian in grade six and motivated me to become a good preacher and later after highschool I was encouraged by many to pursue Theology and I did it successfully with honors and recognition but after my graduation in college I only work for a few months and was introduced to MLM business with mentors that didn't provide wholesome training with no business ethics at all and I found myself confused. Two years later I flew to Thailand to be a missionary but later wasn't recognized when I arrived at the office of the denomination where I belong to. Then I decided to apply as a teacher in a few different primary schools before I landed in the University as a college instructor and during my 5 years in the University as lecturer, I was also active in the ministry as a volunteer pastor in our church and other missionary activities under the banner of that mission that I was denied. Then, after my 5 years in the University I was suddenly kicked out from the job and since December 2016 till this date of September 2020 I am still unemployed coz I got two calls from one university and one technical college for a job offer and later get disappointed by denying my resume because of my degree . I attempted to commit suicide several times but still I failed and now confusion and depression mix together in my psychological side that I cannot even make good coordination in my short term memory sometimes. Denied by my trusted friends and most of the community friends in the church would just pretend to be concern but I didn't feel their sincerity and I tried to enjoy myself in gardening now but still I stuck in my depression every time I remember all the flashbacks in the past. I cried most of the time when I am alone. My wife and my mother are the two people who tried to understand me but I knew they couldn't help me in alleviating this heaviness within me the fact that my father passed away before I can graudate in college 12 years back. Its hard. Because of several disappointments in the past that I decided not to get employed in the religious organization to which my degree really fits and my interest when I was young is still kicking in but don't have the guts to pursue and I don't know where to start and how to balance things and put it in a perspective that I can literally see which direction should I be going. I just want to share this and sorry for this lengthy lines that might be annoying to many of you here but I cannot blame my parents how they wanted me to become when I grow up but yet a bit disappointed for not being able to pursue to things that I am passionate about and to make it worst, I did pursue many directions that I seemingly assumed that would bring me a better career that brought me with disappointments and failures.

Let’s help this young man. His amazing.

Africa did nothing to flourish his talent, he must of been drawing since the moment he got a paper and a pencil, it's all hardwork from all young age since poor kids don't go to school so they have alot of free time, and there's billions of poor people in Africa and there's only a few talented people there, can't really say Africa Is amazing just because of some people

Yes that's great. But Someone able to draw realistic when he was 5 years old. But he is asian. So he is not famous. nowadays he work at military service. Someone able to speak 7 languages in age of 9 years old but he is not famous as well. Because he is asian. Nowadays he is senator. Mostly south east asia even they got talent. They will forgot from the world. This is the reality.

@@andrewmartin6445 If it has a point it’s that it appears entirely part of our world but is the product of imagination. I am not attracted to copies of photos but making them should be worthwhile practice. As a photographer, I feel that the art is in the source image.

True but all children are gifted, given a decent opportunity they will shine. While this is good Favouring one or two here and there cos they are shining their gift early is just maintaining the prejudice that disadvantages others. Can people out here understand that all children have this and they just also just need the right nurturing and environment ? Can people here understand that all humans have it with the right ingredients in place and that is just common sense and not rocket science and demand the European slavery that created this disadvantages be brought to an end once and for all?

This child deserves everything good, just think of how many talented people around the world who don’t even have the opportunity or chance to express their talents or be successful in life, for what they enjoy doing, it’s sad. But very amazed and proud of this boy.

He is such a talented boy. As he said art makes him feel good. Same case for me, but I started hyper realism at 15. I wish after years his name would be used to inspire other budding artist. 👏👌👌

it’s not talent it’s just hardwork like you’re not born with talents like me I started drawing when I was 2 years old and every single day I improved and learned more every single day it’s not talents it’s hard work, people who works really hard is the ones I really respect. anyone can do what they want if they work hard like me i was just learning swimming in year 4 I was really bad but now I’m one of the best swimmers in my class you’re not gonna learn if you don’t try hard.

I wish he becomes successful and opens an art academy for children like him one day offering them opportunities. He's more talented and skilled than even many adult artists. Children like him are the true face of Africa.

Yes, “true face of Africa” is a wonderful way to describe this young man’s gift ! I hope he gets to have an exhibition in London so I can admire up close his expressive work , which I am sure will encourage other young artists worldwide !

Because they're jealous or don't believe that there are child prodigies out there. I will tell you; in every country there is at least 1 genius or prodigy .(if you're lucky maybe 2)

Waris kareem you have a truly amazing gift, at a young age it's so great to see that all you need is some pencils and paper that will hopefully help to aspire other young people to put down their computer control pads and follow in your footsteps. When l was really young our mum always encouraged us to draw and we also discovered talent for drawing. Your parents must be so proud. Good luck hope to see more of your beautiful artwork in the future.

Art in any form should be spread all over the education system. To me art, it's doing something with your entire body and soul, putting your very essence in to what you are doing.. I don't know really, I'm not an artist, and I didn't study nothing of this sort... But ultimately art is to me a feeling...

These are the kinds of vids I think of when some Americans refuse to acknowledge people as individuals instead of defining people by skin. What a talented little angel. He has such a bright future.

Very impressive. Wonderful young kid. The future will bring him his recognition amongst the greatest painters.

All children need to be exposed to art and music. We will never know what talents a child might have unless they are allowed to try.

What's even more fascinating is that most geniuses have an art they practice, which reveals answers they are seeking, whether in science, math, engineering, etc. You're right. Art is a powerful tool. Interesting how art and music has been eliminated from most public schools in America. I bet there's a correlation between rising crime and cutting art and music programs.

All kids have strength and weaknesses. We should just start to develop their strengths instead of punishing for their weaknesses. Good at maths, bad at language? You need to find help getting better at language. Other way around? Get better in maths. Sure... some basic knowledge is important and even if you don't like maths, being able to do basic calculations is necessary... but you don't need to master it. Focus on what you can do well and become a master in that.

I was born with a natural talent for art. I discovered in Kindergarten that I could copy almost anything in front of me, and I reached my realism stage when I was only 7. But, unfortunately, I have this gift because I was also born with dyslexia, ADD and dyscalculia. Even though my parents recognized my talent, they wanted me to have a normal childhood and did nothing at all to help me persue a career. Both a blessing and a curse. But I never had a normal childhood because the schools, at the time, recognized me as "mentally handicapped" and put in classes with teachers that couldn't help or teach me. I was punished a lot for drawing in class and my parents never understood why I couldn't just sit down, pay attention, and do my work well. As hard as I tried to be the way they wanted me to be, I couldn't help but to listen to the constant impulse go doodle on everything put in front of me. And later on, when I got to high school, I was so far behind I didn't have a chance. But that's when my parents learned about an art school for students my age. I made a portfolio, and despite my grades being what they were, I got in. I was only there for 2 years because I spent my freshman and sophomore years in a regular high school. I barely scraped by, because there were still math, English, science and history classes, and even at this school there was no one to help me. You'd think, but no. But I won a lot of awards for my art. But I was in the lower half of the class with not so good grades. Although I got that short break, school was still mostly a bust for me. Talent in the arts is rarely a useful one. Artists, musicians, what-have- you, are a dime a dozen. And if they're like me, just struggling to stay in the game because the system wasn't made for you, then there's even less worth in that. The arts and artists are a liability and a risk. That's one reason why schools stick to getting their athletes on top. People like watching the neighbor kid break his collarbone and seeing his girlfriend wave pom-poms in the air. Instant gratification and minor celebrity. Artistic children are a bore to the common man.

This is so amazing. I'm glad that his mother supports his passion, and that the country is helping him too. I can't imagine how much more amazing he'll be when he's grown up. Even now he's better than many of my artist friends

Seeing all those kids in the art studio is so heart-warming. Children are a gift from God and we must nurture and protect them

I really hope that He has a chance to shine in the big world, because He deserves it.

If he’s doing this as a kid, by the time he becomes an adult his art will be in 3D motion and life-like. He’s getting every details down to the pores.

Such an Amazing young man. I say he WILL be global before age 15. That Smile did it for me! When he smiles he Smiles with his entire being. Those eyes of His are pretty deep.
