Nigella's So-Wrong-It’s-Right Bread-and-Butter Pudding | Ocado

AD | “I do know the rules that govern a bread-and-butter pudding, but this obeys none of them - and unrepentantly. This is the bread-and-butter pudding of my early childhood, the one I ate at my granny’s: soft, squidgy, and straightaway! So here the bread is white sliced, and used straight out of the pack, though if you do have stale bread, of course use that; the custard requires no cream; the steeping lasts no more than 10 minutes; and - stay with me here - the bread is sandwiched not with butter but triangles of Laughing Cow. When I was a child, Laughing Cow - which then went only by its French name, La Vache Qui Rit - was the treatiest of treats. I do concede, however, that these sandwiches don’t sound as if they belong in a bread-and-butter pudding, but I promise you that any doubts you have will be dispelled by the first melting mouthful, giving just the mildest hint of cheesecakey softness at its centre.”

I made this tonight. It’s sensational, very creamy, lemony and vanilla-y, melt in the mouth, divine. I had 2 helpings and am now semi comatose on the sofa. If you don’t hear from me again, I died happy.

Am a sweet tooth myself... so I have full understanding of your comatose 😂... When I try to make this, however, I wld rather cut up the bread to half the size from what is shown.. as I have a rather small mouth and wld also prefer bitesize already so I dpnt have to keep on cutting through it with my fork or a knife..

Just made this and two of us ate it in one sitting. The lemon zest really made this recipe - so nice to get those lemony pops of flavour! I added nuts and raisins for extra texture and flavour and that worked great. Bravo Nigella!

What I discovered I love to add when making my bread pudding...aside from some good vanilla ... is some dark spiced rum like Kraken into the custard mix... So addicting for me, the way it cuts through the sweetness and and still complements it at the same time...

While I can understand her easily, I appreciate the fact that there are subtitles. Since some people are complaining, you could do the optional ones where people can choose to turn them on or off though.

Well, that's lovely but it really needs a name of its own. If Bread-and-Butter pudding with marmelade in the mix has its own name (which I can't remember at the moment) a variant with cheese deserves one too.

I’d forgotten how much I like bread and butter pud. Being diabetic, it’s not something I can have often - but I can do this primarily with a sugar substitute and add just a mere sprinkle of sugar on top. I’ll give it a go (both with the cheese and without ;))
