Beautiful bel canto singing; seamless legato, no register breaks from the bottom to the top of his extensive range, superb legato. absolute dynamic control... in other words as nearly a perfect technique as you are ever going to find.in a tenor voice of any era. What some feel that Gedda lacks is a sensuously beautiful sound and this alleged shortcoming explains his lack of popularity, if you will, notwithstanding his hugely successful, career.

I love Gedda but this interpretation in my opinion is too fast with too much of full sound. It would be great if he sung mainly heartfelt and soft as he did so beautifully in some perts and gave a dramatic voice when it was appropriate. Kozlovsky does it perfectly.

I am a great fan of Nicolai. His version of Vocalise is remarkable, indeed. But it is a little bit fast. I would try to listen to it a few times. I have never heard tenor singing this piece before. Mr. Kozlowski's version is more melancholic. I do not know if it is better. Probably it is not.

Kozlivsky’s version is better. The last part Gedda does it perfectly in good tempo and feeling of drama. If he sung the rest in more understated way and led it to this coda it would be a master piece.

Why is the tempo so rushed? It ruins the entire mood of this magnificent work.

I think the singer wants to connect the phrases, and his interpretation of this work is focused on anxiety and pain instead of longing, which is the usual.

To make phrases like saying something, he goes faster ( rubato ) and slower ( ritardando ). His musicality is exceptional.

Sounds better for soprano. I prefer when this isn’t done in a rushed tempo.

Yes. It is meant for a soprano.

I have never heard this sung by a Tenor. Now I see why. Stick to Anna Moffo
