"Coach Saban, the building's on fire..." "You think I sit around all day thinking about the chemistry of combustion and building codes and what not? I haven't slept in 8 months. I don't remember what my wife's face looks like. The last meal I ate was a Dr. Pepper and the crumbs in the bottom of a Pringles can that's been sitting in my desk drawer for over a year. The last TV show I sat down to watch was a 'Charles in Charge' rerun...and I didn't even have the sound on because I was diagramming plays, alright? This building could be on fire and I wouldn't know it because I'm too focused on whether we're practicing indoors or outdoors. So I'm supposed to be on the edge of my seat because you're telling me the building's on fire and I might perish in the flames? Like that's all I got to worry about. If you wanna talk about the Chattanooga game, I'll be glad to talk about it. [In a sarcastic tone] Appreciate your interest in the game." *exit Saban engulfed in flames still glaring at empty press conference room which is now reduced to ashes*

It sounds like he is really under tremendous pressure that he can't have a normal life. He is all football with room for nothing else. All he needed to say was he looked great.

Saban doesnt have 60 other players that he has to worry about or about preparing for a game which is what he is paid to do, instead he should be concerned with how his QB looks on the cover of SI.

Lawrence Kreh find a player who has played for Nick Saban that has anything negative to say about their Coach. He has enough interest in them to prepare them to be the best. He has enough interest in them to teach them how to be responsible young men not thugs. That press conference is supposed to be about the upcoming game that Bama is playing, not the daily going ons of individual team members. I can only imagine the number of moronic questions he has to field on a weekly basis.

This was how is suppose to act you cant put ur players on pestal. Look at the Johnny Football situation is a prime example of giving your player to much praise. He players say they love him. Its because he treats every player the same. Coach Saban understands how to keep his team grounded and this just shows how he does that.

Being the coach of a # 1 team can't be easy , how about all the ppl saying Saban is a asshole walk in his shoes everyday ....his married life ...coach Alabama ...travel ...meet with his other coaches daily ...the man is human , he don't have time to worry about everything , AJ is a great quarterback and Saban knows this and said so , AJ is old enough to Handel his business while Saban keeps Alabama on the charts ! Never judge a person unless you can walk in his shoes ...not that easy . Can it be that some of you are jealous of Alabama & Saban ? 😊

Lawrence Kreh So what you are saying is that the relationship between his players is irrelevant, because theoretically as long as he pretended on tv you would be satisfied? I think he is probably getting a little frustrated that all reporters ask about is not related to the game. He is the head FOOTBALL coach. If they want media relations they need to talk to a different person. You are also comparing different eras. Back then, the media was much less a factor than it is now. Now, the media machine is 24/7. Do you really think he should sit around and sacrifice preparation time to make sure AJ's hair was in place on the cover?

Lawrence Kreh I guess you did not see the end of the LSU game; where saban Jumped in AJ' s arms, or when he was talking about AJ not recieving enough recognition for the heisman.

I do not think half of you understand how this stuff works. He was most likely not even consulted on this type of stuff. The athletic department has staff that handle this stuff. How good do you think he team would be if he was more worried about a magazine cover than what happens on the field. Stuff like that is a distraction to the team, yet he can't stop it because it is above him. He most likely has a system in place to keep that stuff off the field and keep his players focused on the task at hand. Knowing about a cover shoot one of his players did does not make or break his mentoring. Mentoring involves much more than hovering over them off the field.

His most important player makes the cover of SI and he thinks he's not supposed to know about it? That is pretty ridiculous. I'm guessing he may have known and was just trying to be an ass about it. But who knows, he does have a little OCD or asperger's and lives in his narrowly focused coaching bubble, which in some ways helps him be succesful.
