Nick's Favorite New Knife of 2016: The Olamic Wayfarer 247

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Today, a quick (re-)announcement, of my favorite knife of 2016, The Olamic Wayfarer 247. Since I had one on my table, it seemed prudent to make it a bit more formal than a single sentence at the end of a 50 minute video. So, enjoy!

The thing I love about the pocket pecker is the way it lines up with the curves of the handle. When the knife is open it matches the finger groove to make a nice circle, and when it's closed it follows the curve of the top part of the handle. The only thing I don't like is how the blade doesn't fall shut, but I can live with that. The Swish looks really nice, but I think I'll give it a miss. I love my Wayfarer 247, but 3.5" is as large as I'm comfortable carrying. Fingers crossed they do a Swish 247

Oh, and the ergos for me are fantastic too. The first thing that went through my mind when I got this knife in my hand was, "OK, Count Dooku's lightsaber makes sense now". Love this knife :)

Yooooo: I just ordered a Hinderer, xm-18, 3" in slicer grind. Oh ya..If you EVER get caught up, I will lend to you for a few weeks, not even require a blood oath! But I doubt you will ever get caught up w/ stuff...Anyway I am excited. 3" slicer, oh ya! Has to be a good carrier.

Hi Nick. I bought one of these beauties on the merit of your previous video and it's an absolute treasure and worth every penny. Some may think that It's rather the superlative to describe the fit and finish as perfect but having seen it and carried it for a month now I must agree as I can not fault it. Thanks for another great vid, please keep them rolling

Wish esthetics (in the eye of the beholder) followed the same logic as ergonomics. Hard to tell on a picture or a video for any knife if it would feel good in my hand. So design sells over ergonomics if i dont have the opportunity to get a feel for it first. I have taking my share of baths over the years and learned from it to a degree. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Nick- you put this one on my radar. Great blade. I have small hands, another reason I like your channel. I can use you comments on ergos.. My favorite was the ZT 0801 BRZ. A great upgrade and I like Rexford's ergos. Nick, have you tried out the ZT0450 CF. An even better action than that 0452 beast. I just wish they had a satin blade version, though JDCutlery does some nice mods and takes off the coating.

I really like how the sweeping centre line of the holes follows the curve of and makes visible the edge. That is some sweet design. And, you can just see how that almost pistol grip shaped handle would make the blade an extension of the body. Aesthetics wise there is also the machined out lanyard/flipper/thumb hole theme, the matching forefinger cutout/curved plunge line and the proportional pivot head/drill holes. Lots of ocd goodness.

Actually, if I had to make a criticism I would say that the material on the top side of the thumb hole should be thinner to match the material left in the edges of the the flipper tab/finger guard. Perhaps also around the top of the lanyard hole, hard to make out exactly for that though.

If anyone's interested, this model Wayfarer is on bladeforums exchange right now. Asking price seems high to me, but that's a sliding scale.

Hmmm... The 247 review was the genesis of the "Pocket Pecker"? Not sure how that didn't make it into this vid Nick - for shame you beautiful bastard!

Hey Nick... just wondering what are some of the knives you've had your eye on but haven't gotten the opportunity to actually hold in hand.

I wish this knife was just a little wider and longer, it'd be perfect for me then.

Dalessandroftw - the original custom wayfarer has a 4-4.125" blade. It's about twice the price, but hard to put a price on something if it's perfect to you. FWIW, I have the 247 and would've paid twice the price for it; it is definitely that good. It also may be larger than you think.

It's the handle thickness I have an issue with, not really the blade size of the 247. I can't stand thin titanium framelocks. Need a bit of beefyness in my knife. If I had the disposable income to get the original wayfarer I absolutely would. At $350 or so the 247 is more in line with my price range. Tough position. Chaz Bihun
