The Olamic Wayfarer 247 Pocketknife: The Full Nick Shabazz Review

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

The Olamic Wayfarer 247 Pocketknife is a spectacular little EDC option, with great action, great ergonomics, and more or less perfect fit and finish. Although it's a lot of cash, it's 100% worth what they're asking, and is a stellar option in its price range.

I have become a big fan of Olamic Cutlery, in particular the Wayfarer Compact. Nice and beefy, great design, great EDC. Also, I'm quickly becoming a fan of that CPS XHT steel. Man I can really tune that up without a lot of effort on the stone. From the look of this review, the 247 is a bit slimmer with basically the same blade shape, different steel and the frame lock. Can't go wrong. I've noticed that everybody seems to have a personal relationship with Eugene and it's not uncommon to see him comment/participate any and everywhere, like here. I really like and appreciate that hands on approach. Thx for another great review Nick.

I just received mine today. I got it on the secondary market for $350 and I am blown away by this knife! It is a gem 💎 for sure. I really can’t find anything about this knife that bothers me. On top of everything that I love is that this is blue anodized! I can’t think of anything in this price range that even comes close to this, especially in the U.S. market. I would recommend to anyone to just buy it. Even if for some reason you decide not to keep it you will be able to resell it no problem. Hell, I’d probably buy it lol.

Great review; I like what Olamic are doing with that model, and some of their others, using timascus and mokuti accents, with the bands of timascus on both sides, pocket-clips, backspacers, on a relatively inexpensive, sub-1000$ semi-custom. I usually prefer the standoffs for EDC, but floating backspacers give you the best of both worlds, easy to clean, but with a really nice look. That said, while I dig the blade -- it is a bit different, kind of a modified fighter/bayonet style, I guess -- it looks a bit too heavy and clunky in the ass end, which is further exaggerated by the wide pocket-clip and backspacer... too much junk in the trunk. Beside that, it's very cool.

You really nailed it with this review. I like knives that are so well made;Reate, Zero Tolerance etc. But Olamic is in a class all itself. It is a great value compared for the money. They are actually worth the hassle I get from my wife which is saying a lot.

I paid $495 for a kinetic ocean, rock backspacer version. For that money I think the drop action should be smoother. Went back and forth with Eugene and he was very responsive. Had me send it in to be "tuned" to my specifications. Came back in the same condition as I sent it. Still love the knife, it's a beautiful piece.

I’m looking for a Marfione/Strider DOC flipper. I’ve only been able to find the automatic. I came across this review because I found a beautiful knife made by olamic carbon fiber mirror polished wayfarer. I was just wondering if you have an opinion on which company you like better? Any suggestions? All my knifes are high production but I’m interested in purchasing a custom that’s no more than ~$1000. I’d lobe some advice from an expert collector. I want a mirror polished flipper and prefer a frame lock. Even if it’s just a high production you’d recommend I’m all ears.

I believe the blade shape is a weehawk... Long swedge starting about 1/4 away from the base of the blade into a spearpoint. I have a Benchmade model 42 with a very similar shape, just without the little thumbhole and it's a balisong so of course it looks a bit different.

U missed that they have the cutout at the top of the blade for your finger to fall onto the flipper tab easier. I really like when company's do that it works much better then if it's a square shape up top. If you put your finger on the top of the knife just pull back your finger will fall on the tab and open

I wear an XL glove so the wayfarer should fit comfortably in my hand no problem. So thats a no brainer you have me sold. The bodega is without a doubt a nice piece of eye candy and then some according to your review, so I have to have one of those also ,"and that's a beautiful thing". Thanks for your help and for the most objective, informative and yet still humorous and light hearted reviews on the tube, awesome stuff. So good I liked and subscribed so please keep them coming.

Great choice on the Olamic! I have had mine for 4 months now and I have no regrets. The knife is flawless. It has great a detent with perfect centring, no blade play side to side or up and down and zero lock stick. It feels great in the hand and is rock solid in every way. You will not be disappointed with your decision. Btw I ended up with the Todd Begg Kwaiken instead of the mini Bodega, a choice I am also happy with ;)

Although it would be wrong on so many levels, if they ever come out with a 3" version it needs to be named the "pocket pecker." The Z-Hunter skull inlays would add $100+ to the cost of the base model.

+ Nick, I know you're not a lanyard guy. I am with certain knives. I wanted to point out I bought a ZT Jens Anso and the guy had put a lanyard on it. The lanyard hole had similar positioning to the Wayfarer. That is a terrible place to put the lanyard hole. The paracord sticks out and into your hand, wrecking the ergos. I cut it off (the lanyard, not the pocket pecker) and the ergos improved immensely. While that lanyard hole placement looks great, it is impractical. Take care funny guy.

Frame lock knives are just for looks. There is nothing functionally superior about the frame lock. The only thing worse is the liner lock which is basically the same concept. Junk... yes this includes the Chris Reeve Sebenza and Inkosi and what ever knife you want to throw in the mix. These knives are for looks and not much more.
