Same, I have big hands and I actually like larger knives with long and/or thick handles that I can keep a secure grip on, I like to carry a large knife like this one or an Adamas or a ZT0452CF, pm2, etc. along with a Spyderco Dragonfly, rat 2, or similar small knife in case i need to cut something in a situation where the big one might make someone nervous, though usually that just means at work because I live in Texas.

I will buy them (large knives) for the collection, but I won’t take them into town (“town” here meaning Boston or Cambridge, where the blade length is limited to 2.5”). I REALLY don’t want, when I pull out my knife, for somebody to scream!

Nice review Nick. I have owned this knife for the past couple of months now and I freaking love it. I would agree with your pocket clip issue. However as regards to push button the flipper tab, I am able to do it without any difficulty. The weight issue is no problem for me. Although during the summer months I tended to carry my ZT 0452 when wearing lighter clothing but in jeans it's not a problem. I love the size, blade shape etc. I agree with the reverse pocket clip holes (ugliness), but what you gonna do, lefties got to have nice things too. I appreciate the disassembly video you did on this knife as well. It was great to see the insides and very useful for me when it comes to the time to service the knife. Love your channel Nick. Keep up the great reviews. All the best Gary 😎

Nick im glad you were able to get ur hands on this knife. i bought it for 200 bucks a couple months ago. its great. the action is outstanding. i hardly carry it though, so huge and intimidating. but i still love it and cant part with it. i would classify this in the Art knife category. but its a top of the line knife that an average joe can actually obtain easily. thats the best part. no waiting list or VIP stuff. im glad i own one. And Les George is a great guy. he actually talks to us regular guys in the Zt groups on facebook

For a full titanium knife of this size, I would say 5.3oz's isn't that bad. The ZT 0456 has a 3.25" blade and it's over 6.5oz's.

@Stutterin` Bob I carry a large espada in suit pants and dont notice it. It always strikes me as a bit melodramatic the way most reviewers describe the weight of 4 and 5 ounce knives.

I EDC a Leatherman Charge and I used to carry a Spyderco Tenacious that has seen some very hard use. I bought this knife to replace my Spyderco and your takes are spot on. I hate the left handed mount area. I had issues with the clip at first but I got it all custom bent for a more enjoyable experience. I love the blade shape, but I am worried about sharpening a recurve when the time comes. Maybe a video of sharpening a recurve would be great ;) I do acknowledge the size/weight limitations but for my use age it really isn't a factor. Great review Nick spot on.

Great review. The 0920 has been a great knife so far, only issue is the clip does not like the pockets of my double front Carhartt pants. A small inconvenience that does not deter me from carrying it.

On the subject of the pocket clip needing more ramp, you are correct, but it didn't take a lot to fix, just a bit of a tweek while holding the tip of the clip in well padded ViseGrip jaws.

I just bought a ZT0920 and plan on filling the left side holes with three black screws (I will ask ZT to supply them, they seem very accommodating and customer orientated from experience) which I am hoping will mitigate some of the 'ugliness' of the clip mounting point.

Either “sorry lefties” or… a couple of additional scale options so that no matter which carry you want, left or right side, there would be a clean show side. That would mean manufacturing 2 additional scales, without the clip mounting hole/flat. Since they are otherwise identical to the scales with clip mounts, it shouldn’t be TOO hard to do, and it would make a much better high-end knife.

Nick, I just don't understand this 'Lefty/Righty' thing. I'm left handed and couldn't give a toss what side the clip is on. I don't care which way the knife faces while in my pocket. I guess at 50+ years old, I grew up in a non-lefty aware world so adapted. I agree with the ugliness of the 'Lefty' mounting. INMHO, it's redundant. EDIT: To be honest, a folder of this size really needs a sheath, not a clip. EDIT 2: I used to own a Buck Alpha folder (the one with the gut-hook). Bought it 13 years ago I guess. Had it confiscated by airport security in 2011 because I'd boarded a small plane flight from Cooktown to Cairns, then had an immediate connection to a commercial flight to Townsville further South as my wife was in the hospital there, having been diagnosed with an advanced brain tumour 18 hours earlier. They flew her out the night before. I had to stay and sort out our camp and the dogs. Anyway, I'd lived with this knife on my belt and completely forgot about it until I was heading for security at the domestic airport. I handed it over, and due to might flight being held for me (they even had an electric cart take me directly to the plane) I couldn't leave it anywhere, so in the bin it went. I kept the sheath though. The thing that hurt most was that the knife was a gift from my partner. I lost her less than three months later.

I'm left handed and I agree about the show side screw holes. They go through all that trouble to make a beautiful knife and they kind of ruin it with the ugly holes. There has to be a better solution. How about making left handed models? Maybe limit them in production. I carry on both sides. Sometimes, I prefer to buy right handers because they are easier to sell on the secondary market. I probably only keep about 25 percent of the knives that I buy, the others get traded or sold.

I agree with your aesthetic critique. The back is way to crowed with the raised clip holes, 2 screws and lanyard hole almost within a thumb print of each other. An ambidextrous clip like Lion Steel or Buck uses and an internal bronze anodized lanyard post would have made the flow of this design so much better visually with little or no price increase. To me, it's like an unforced error in sports.

Watching this review a second time as I do with many of your reviews. I too am a leftie that have lived all my life in a right handed world. I have spent all that time using right handed items as all lefties do, adjusting our grip, placing right handed baseball gloves on the opposite hand and doing the best I can ... etc. You righties have no idea what we go through. The only thing is, I've gotten so good at doing this I've come to accept it as the norm, not even realizing I am adjusting for the wrong handed way. Just food for thought.

That low ramp on the clip is not a con if someone actually uses this knive and is an avid outdoorsman , and not a desk jockey. That low pro of the clip is super sweeeeeeeet and a mad plus if your use and recreation is outside and in the woods!!!! I truly wish all my knives had this low clip or had it as an option as it makes me feel slightly better knowing less of a chance of getting caught on something and losing it.

This knife is awesome. Mine is super smooth, drops quickly under it's own weight, fits my size XL hands well, love recurves, and the harpoon and bronze hardware are nice touches. Nick I gotta disagree with you on the point of the jimping and that's my only problem with this knife. The jimping is terrible. Provides zero grip, more just for indexing I suppose. I wish more companies would take note on spydercos jimping.

Nick, hopefully you see this.. I'm not a ZT/flipper fan but like quality knives. Have you seen the Steel Will Gekkos.. A little pricey but smooth, quality. The 3.9" is a micarta handle lockback for $200. The Mini is a 3.5" G10 handle lockback. Held both in store and real nice.. The steel is only N690 (similiar to good 440C)... I'm probably going to get one.. I don't mind the steel but it will probably hurt the resale value for some jackass that's cuts up apples and is concerned about edge retention...I have too many knives to say they are all users plus I'm a city guy..

Just got mine. The pocket clip seems okay: I have no trouble getting it clipped to my Wranglers, but it does hang slightly as the pocket rim hits the lockbar cutout. The clip is very good about being unobtrusive when the handle is gripped. Action is smooth but sounded dry, so I put a drop of oil on each side of the pivot. Still sounds dry. Probably just needs break-in or cleaning. Detent is good, on the lighter side, and I can fail it easily if I try, but I wouldn't change it. Falls shut on closing with a gentle wrist, perfect. Knife is definitely beautiful, stunning really. If I could change anything, I'd reduce the logo size a bit and try some contrasting finish (satin) on some of the blade surfaces, instead of the all-over stonewash, just to make it dance in the light a little. I might look for a deep-carry clip as well. Let me know if you know a source. There are 7 black blobs on the lock side. It just looks a bit busy to me. It is strong enough to do anything I might want to do with a pocket knife, and then some. Factory edge is sharp. Grind symmetry and blade centering looks perfect. This knife is the classiest one I own and a real treat for me. Its going to be fun to carry, play with and show off. What the heck, i might even break down and cut something with it.

I don't think the detent is adjustable, but you might try flipping it a while. Mine has improved a lot after just a few hours of flipping, but it wasn't tight to begin with, so I am not sure what to say. Lube the detent ball well. I did, with motor oil. Is your pivot too tight? Let me know if I can help. And, good luck.

  • @PapaWheelie1

I tried light gun oil - it is very smooth when you get it past the detent and closes easily. But when closed you can't open it by pulling on the blade, even if you try like hell and the flipper takes a ton of pressure. At some point in this video I saw Nick grab the blade and open with no trouble. What do you think the screw is for behind the detent ball? I will give it a turn on Monday when I get to my tools at work and see... thanks!

The screw is there to hold the steel lockbar insert in place. Careful not to strip the screw. It is likely locktighted, probably with blue but possibly with red. Suggest you check with ZT before trying the screw. I can easily open the knife by gripping the blade with two fingers up by the logo and jimping. Sounds like your pivot is not too tight, because the knife operates normally once past the detent. You may want to contact ZT-this may be a warranty repair.

The Olamic 247 received no ugly and Nick said is one of the most perfect examples of knife making he's seen in a while, should watch that vid it's super interesting.

There were a few "Bad" points in his review. Weight, closing action, pocket pecker, etc. but nothing ugly. It was a truly beautiful knife. I enjoyed the review. Thanks for the suggestion

Maybe the Rask review? I'd have to check but that's probably Nick's top candidate for a "perfect" knife.

This knife is pretty much everything i want in a pocket knife for me.I have big mitts and this knife actually disappears in my hand which sound crazy but true.I absolutely love this knife and my only knock would be lefty holes sorry southpaws. Also to anyone thinking of buying this and can handle a larger knife jump on this one you will not regret it.

I prefer more slim profile clip points - this one seems to have a weird, stubby shape.

Custom knives are simply not valid for me. If you are too rich to believe in value, then it’s another story but sadly this is not the case for me.

I really want to buy this knife, but I HATE the way those leftie carry clip holes look. Uch. Those holes are the only things stopping me from buying this knife. Maybe I'll buy it, epoxy in the holes, and then Dremel down the epoxy. That's a lot of effort for a knife that's already north of $200, though.

I have to carry a knife at work. Right now I have the spyderco tenacious. It's holding up pretty well but I encounter a lot of heavy cardboard and the occasional garden hose and carpet. Is there something a bit more beefy anyone can recommend that doesn't look like I'm going into combat with mall ninjas at work?

I don't mind the clip as much as you do Nick, but I totally agree about the left side drilling. That's probably a deal breaker for me. I really like this knife (even the murderiness), but I won't spend over $200 for a knife that I cringe every time I look at the show side. Common ZT, fix that, and I'll buy one.

RN Mike it doesn't really bother me although It would look better without it but wouldn't any knife for someone who carries right hand tip up? The wonky milling around it is what bothers me. I understand why they did it though. They'll sell more if the leave it on.

7/10/19 $180 On Knife Center (closeout) Hey knife makers, If you want to appeal to a right/left crowd then do the right and make a knife for the right and a knife for the left, your right Nick that BS gesture just doesn't get it on this knife and others, It is a eye sore to say the least.
