Mike Simpson grew up with an interest in hunting, fishing and a love of the outdoors in addition to firearms and military history. This led to him enlisting in the Army as an Infantry Airborne Ranger. He served as a Sergeant and anti-tank section leader, and was honorably discharged in 1988.
He worked as a corrections officer for the next three years in Bulloch County Georgia, and Florida Army National Guard in 3rd Battalioin 20th Special Forces Group. In 1991, his unit was called to active duty during Desert Storm but did not deploy.
He attended and graduated Special Forces Assessment and Selection, and Special Forces Qualification Course and became an 18C Engineer Sergeant, at which point he returned to full time active duty. He was assigned to 7th Special forces group, and eventually became an 18D Medical Sergeant, and left SF for medical school in 2002.
He completed an Emergency Medicine residency, became an Army Doctor to Joint Special Operations Command, and deployed multiple times in the Global War on Terror. He received a Bronze Star with Combat "V" and a Combat Medical Badge for performing duties as an EM physician under enemy fire.
He practice Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and works as an MMA physician. . As one of the foremost experts in both tactical trauma medicine and combat sports medicine, Mike is highly sought after as a lecturer and instructor, working extensively with MMA fighters, law enforcement, and military organizations providing medical care and training. Mike is possibly best known as a member of the investigative team on two seasons of the documentary-reality series “Hunting Hitler” on The History Channel.
