Possibly inappropriate, but one of his sons died by falling off a cliff when on drugs about 200 metres down the road from where one of my best friends used to live, near Brighton. That friend now lives with my best friend, who tattooed Jethro Cave's finger years ago, who was a fan of my friend's noise band at the time, and demanded he do this bad tattoo for him at the time that they met, so he did. Then yh, he died last year as well. It's pretty weird and crazy.

Stunning tribute. Watching live, it initially seemed too slow/ different compared to the original version but in fact the slowed down version was genius for a funeral as was the omission of the ‘ginger lady’ verse and the changing of the lyrics / finality of the song being ‘over’. Such a difficult performance for a man whose young son literally ‘fell’ into heaven. Colm Mac Con Iomaire on the violin was superb and wonderfully understated and very reverent. World class performace

Bravo and thanks so much for this moment.

What a wonderful rendition by Mr. Cave. Shane's passing rips my heart out as his music was such a huge part of my life as a young lad. Another person gone from my life, another step in the ladder broken. Feeling sad right now. Peace ya'll.

I love the way he phrases this more like Shane used to do having heard them sing it together in the past. He's channeling the guy. Possibly writing songs like this is our highest achievement as a species. Can't even express my gratitude to Shane MacGowan for this song. When you hear someone turning human lives into such poetry it's humbling. More of this kind of thing and less of the hatred and fear right here would be good. His fearless spirit must continue to inspire us never to settle for second best. In anything.

Exactly...the way Nick phrased this beautiful song...is unlike any performance of A Rainy night in Soho....ever. A miraculous event it was like Shane was sitting next to him...directing the entire performance. Even the subtle nod encouraging the violinist to continue with that beautiful solo...

That was so touching. You could listen to that song over and over again as it’s so beautiful. That is Shane’s best song in my opinion. Nick gave it everything and you can tell how much Shane meant to him the way he’s put every ounce of emotion into it. The musicians were outstanding also in particular Colm on the violin. Has to be the most amazing funeral I’ve ever seen. Shane got the best send off he could ever wish for❤️
