he was kind but very foolish and unresponsible, a good man in a wrong position, the people under his rule didn't deserve to die they way they did either

Those photos with his daughters were taken in April 1916 when he was 47. The one on the tree stump was late spring 1917, so maybe just turned 49 (otherwise 48 still) and the one with Alexei sawing wood was late 1917, so again aged 49, not 50. In fact many of the captions are wrong. Several different photos of him with George V at Cowes, on the same occasion, and yet different ages given...
