Nice rainbows caught at Mammoth Lakes

In this video I camped at Pine City Camground by Lake Mary and got into some nice fish at Lake Mamie. All fish were caught from a float tube on a variety of lures including Drews Custom baits plastic worms, ultralight heavyweights 1” micro minnows, and bead headed nymphs under an indicator.

    Want to Thank You for demonstrating respectful fishing. Keep what you want, throw back the rest. These Desert Springs trout are one thing but it seems so many people lately parading around big browns as a trophy vs documenting and putting them back. Nice job!

    It hurts to see those big browns dead 😣, but yeah definitely releasing any wild fish 🤙

    So Cal Trout Cartel hey Jorge I had a question for you. I’m looking to buy a Phenix trout rod and wanted to get your opinion on the different models. I’ve used my buddies elixir and I liked it a lot. What’s the difference between the elixir and mirage? Which one do you prefer throwing mini jigs on?

  • @socaltroutcartel574

    @socaltroutcartel574

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@melerik Hey Erik so for throwing jigs you’re probably going to be looking at something from 7’6” to 8’ I myself prefer the 7’7” mirage one piece. I know other people who do prefer the elixir. The different between the two is mostly the action on the rods, the mirage has a moderate action which is a little whippier and the elixir has a fast action which is stiffer, with the exception of an 8’ two piece they make with a moderate/fast action. So it’s going to be mostly what you prefer. I have the mirage 7’7” one pieces and an 8’ two piece available in my shop as well as a 7’6” two piece elixir, and two dragon fly models in 8’. If you want to come check them out in person in Ontario CA shoot me an email socaltroutcartel@yahoo.com

    @@socaltroutcartel574 so I actually just picked up a mirage just in time for the new trout season. Was looking on the Phenix website and they had the Mirage listed at $162. Called Phenix up cause I thought they were discontinuing them but they said no. I asked why they were so cheap then and the guy had no clue. I guess it was a mistake on their end. Long story short I got an 8 ft mirage for a bargain 😅

    Nice Video! Lake Mamie is a fun lake. I'm new to the float tube game. What kind of waders? do you wear boots? is it heavy?

  • @socaltroutcartel574

    I use breathable waders, specifically I have the Orvis Encounter waders and a pair of reddington wading boots. They’re not to heavy, once in the water you feel pretty light.
