Pianist, teacher, author, and Rockette Jeremy Siskind shows exercises regarding mixing pentatonic scales to create more color and motion when improvising over a single chord. These tools are appropriate for single-chord tunes like "Passion Dance" and "So What."

i had put off buying the third book, "I have so much to work on, I have so many other books," etc. Thirty minutes of working on this and suddenly my playing just jumped level or two. Buying now!
Now is the winter of our discontent made glorious summer by this Siskind of pentatonics!
Jeremy, you made this winter a lot warmer for me with this lesson!
This sounds so great and seems conceptually simple at least (he says before actually sitting in front of the piano and trying to play it!) Adding the requested “summer” to the comment (that’s Australian for “winter” - our Gb to your F).
...winter...Eugene Oregon...life on "the farm"... just went through a major icestorm and fourteen days without power (= no heat, no lights, no refrigeration, no well water/toilet flushes or bathing, no internet,...grateful for electricity, and glad to be back online and learning from you...
I'm loving winter 😂 🔥 🎹
Winter pentatonics, excellent!
Winter!
Almost winter in Sydney..24c today (75F)!
Out with winter and spring into pentatonics! Great lesson!
Winter from Cambodia 35°C Thanks for sharing these lesson
happy winter, it's almost spring! really love the sound you've gotten from applying these ideas 😄👍
End of summer here! Thanks for these great tips, it truly unlocks more creativity for me. Outside playing has never come out naturally but these pentatonic and quartal voicing ideas is making it easier to achieve - Thank you!
Next level winterprovizing - love it!
Love these winter pentatonics exercises! Thanks for the great lesson, Jeremy!
winteresting workout & well worth the time
It looks to me--and I think this is one reason your playing sounds so much better than mine--that you include the Bb in the F pentatonic at times, and the A in the Eb pentatonic. Those two notes seem to act as a kind of pivot.
Great stuff to practice during the winter season!
man i should have just waited! i bought the book 1 + book 2 . some 1/2 months ago. if i had known you would have been launching vol 3 so soon i would have just bought all 3 together
A proper lesson.!!
Wow! Fantastic exercises. Thank you for the lesson, Jeremy.
What a wonderful exercice i will apply on my guitare. It's sound great
Boss!
Who needs a spring tonic when you can have a winter pentatonic?
I cheat when it's every other beat... So, for finger positioning, to go from E flat pentatonic to F pentatonic, it isn't much different. You can think of it as 5 notes changing... but you also can think of it as only 2 notes changing - you're recycling the F, G and C keys, because both scales have these in common. The only difference in notes is that the Bb and Eb keys each slide a half-step down to A and D, which the F, G and C stay the same. You still have to remember where the root is, IOW remember what you're going back and forth between, and also the overarching vibe. In this example, that means when you're supposed to be in F pentatonic, it sounds like F is the root, and when you're in E flat pentatonic, it sounds like THAT. An then, F mixolydian is the overarching vibe. Even as your hands are moving up and down the keyboard, you can think of it as 3 common notes, and 2 notes that change, as far as shapes and where you place your fingers. Anyway, that's my "cheat" (and many other peoples') - I'm always looking for the common notes, and then, how do the other notes change? Maybe that approach doesn't work for everybody. That's okay. Winter is supposed to get warmer, starting tomorrow! (Around here, at least)

Great lesson as usual. But hey Jeremy how is it i cannot buy your book for France???? Please gimme a way to proceed.
I don't play piano, I play a wind instrument but I still get a lot of watching these videos, like how the mixolydian mode could be seen as a union of the major pentatonic of the key plus the major pentatonic of the key a whole step down. That's very cool. My question here is, over the Fmaj7 chord, why does the G major pentatonic work well over it? Wouldn't the G major 3rd (B) clash with the F major 5th (C)? Would G minor pentatonic be a better fit?

Hi Dominick! G major pentatonic over F offers you a lydian sound, it has the #11 (B natural in this case). To put a lydian mode over the tonic is a common thing. Greetings!
Waste of time
