    I am hoping that the Raider X will win, especially with the army choosing the 280 Valor over the Defiant X, i mean the X2 technology can freaking lower the angle of attack while having the heli at a stand still and deaccelerate quickly, it just has a lot more potential in my eyes, may the best heli design win!

    1. the Bell 360 invictous would be the best choice for the scout role but...2. I'd take the raider-x as well for a fast attack gunship/light transport heli to drop off a small squad and/or provide fire support for rapid response to a any situation that may develop. I think both would work well off each other.

    Don't put all your eggs in one basket. I see advantages to BOTH designs. So why can't the Army order X amount of each and see how they perform over time. They may decide they like both and will/can use each one for different missions. Not like we seem to want to move everything towards the F-35 which may/can be a huge mistake down the road.

  • @johnnytyler5685

    @johnnytyler5685

    Жыл бұрын

    @@trvman1 Not sure what you mean by "don't put all your eggs in one basket"? I specifically said that I think the military will give contracts to BOTH Bell AND Sikorsky. Bell's 360 Invictus for the armed scout chopper FARA program and Sikorsky's "SB-1 Defiant" for the FVL program to replace the Black Hawk. Both manufacturers entered a prototype into each program (FARA and FVL). Unless...are you trying to say that the military should select BOTH the Bell 360 Invictus AND the Sikorsky Raider X for the SAME scout helicopter (FARA) program?!?! Because I can assure you that something like that would NEVER happen. With all due respect, if that is what you are suggesting then you don't seem to understand how a military works. Selecting two TOTALLY DIFFERENT platforms for the exact same mission/program would be absolutely insane. It would cost an unbelievable amount of our taxpayers' dollars. First of all, you would have to train different crews to fly two totally different aircraft that are DRAMATICALLY different from each other. The Bell FARA entry is a traditional helicopter with a single main rotor and a normal tail rotor. The Sikorsky FARA entry has a pair of coaxial main rotors and a pusher prop out back. EVERYTHING about how they fly and operate is different. So you would have to train half of your pilots on one of the helicopters and half of your pilots on the other and they would not be able to fly the helicopter that they weren't trained on, even though they are both used as the military's armed scout helicopters. That would be absolutely ridiculous to do. In addition to the training costs, you would also have dramatically higher maintenance costs because you have two totally different helicopters where NOTHING between the two is interchangeable (except the engine, which both prototypes are using because that is part of the contract requirement), so you have one set of parts for one helicopter and a totally different set of parts for the other. You ALSO would have to train the maintenance guys (and gals) to work on two totally different helicopters and become proficient in maintaining BOTH of them. So you are either training ALL of the maintenance crews to work on two totally different helicopters, which could be extremely dangerous, or you would again have to train HALF of your maintenance crews to work on ONE of the helicopters and HALF of your maintenance crews to work on the OTHER scout helicopter. Hopefully you understand just how insane your suggestion is now.

    I feel sorry for the army on this choice there both great platforms. I did like the side pockets on the invictus better unless they can load weapons in the door of the raider x while flying if so that could be an advantage when you run out of missles or other weapons. I did like the over all look of the invictus it looks like a shark ready for action but the raider x looks more like you could really use this platform any where on the battle field no matter how you needed it and have the speed and skills to pull it off and it seems more maneuverable . the invictus looks more like it has one purpose to be fast and small enough to get around cities and maybe small enough not to be seen in more open environments giving it an edge at being more sneaky and it seems more stealthy overall. so I guess they need to figure out how their going to use this platform in the future and what kind environments it will be used in or they can just pick up both. but I guess the most important things are price and if they can be built fast and built right and be upgradable . I would like to see the invictus go to special operations for those secret missions and the raider x go to the army that would be the best choice for these two awesome platforms or combine them to have the best of both worlds. take the silhouette of the invictus add the double helicopter blades and pusher propeller and your done you got the best of both worlds. It would be small, fast and very maneuverable just what you need for the scout roll .

    I really like the one with the cannon in the nose. I think it would be more versatile. I realize there is more than meets the eye but gun that can move is better than a side mounted, fixed gun. Size and signature matter more for a scout than speed. I crewed OH-58s in the 1980s and the small size allows loitering in very small open spaces in trees and terrain for longer term observation. Larger designs don't make sense for the scout role. Having a combination of armed scout and pure attack helos allows maximum flexibility and safety for both systems. Stand off drone based scout platforms do make the larger versions shown make more sense. So I am ok if the larger platforms use drones to deploy into know threat areas. But that is the rub. Your scouting to find the enemy. Drones that you cannot recover limit your scouting ability to areas of high probability of contact. But all the designs have merits. Tough choice. Ukraine data should provide good info on what we will face in the future.

  • @fiendishrabbit8259

    @fiendishrabbit8259

    a. The coaxial rotors on some of these aircraft means that they don't take up much space compared to a traditional single rotor aircraft. b. Do you really need a very high probability of contact if you have 30 drones and each drone costs just a few thousand USD (in addition to a battery of about 4-10 bigger drones featuring either AT or HE warheads)? Overall the payload would cost less than a single Hellfire. c. I honestly think the US army is limiting the capability of a helicopter by specifying specific launcher and gun. For one thing if you focused on drones you could probably save a lot of space/weight by having tubes that spit them out sideways instead of being able to deploy an entire rack (in a more missile-like fashion).

It cant really be since there is no side thrust from the tail only from its center. I also dont get why the rudder is on the bottom where wind will likely not pass as much as the top of its fuselage. All in all I think I personally prefer the 360 it seems like a good design pushed to the next level

    Bell Invictus has the right design, but it needs more advanced technology. We don't need a rear rotor for stabilzation, switch it to a rear propeller and just use asymetric thrust vectoring on the turbine exhaust to counteract the main rotor spin. No need for coaxial rotor which just adds more complexity, cost and larger radar signature.

    For a moment it seemed to me that you mixed up a gas turbine engine and a jet engine. One must take the maximum amount of force from the air flow, and the second must give the maximum force to the air flow.

    This is a turboshaft, not a turbojet. All immediate usable energy has been used, you'd get negligible thrust from the exhaust.

    Both the Invictus and Raider X are impressive prototypes. My eye likes the Invictus better, which makes me think the Raider X will actually be the better bird. :-) But either one will serve well, and the Army really needs their scouts.

    There are two programs, the scout/light attack helicopter and the troop transport with an option to fill it with missiles heavy attack helicopter. Bell has the sleeker scout chopper and an updated tilt-rotor for the transport chopper, Sikorsky has the propeller pusher small and large designs. I like both Bell designs better. The Scout at least looks more stealthy, the Comanche 2.0. And the tilt-rotor should be more efficient for long ranges. However, they will probably give one contract to each company to keep both factories running. And i don't know which Bell design i'd rather say goodbye to.

  • @texasranger24

    @texasranger24

    If Boeing/Sikorsky could just give us the actual Comanche 2.0, since they made the original, i would want that one to win. But they seem to have given up on that very sleek design to push their bulky pusher propeller in a small and large helicopter.

  • @thuggeegaming659

    I love the design of the Invictus, but it's too "play it safe". It needs coaxial rotors and a pusher rotor like the Raider X. This would eliminate the need of a troublesome tailrotor, provide greater lift, greater top speed, and greater range. I love the Raider X too, but its larger size means it performs similarly to the Hind gunship, in that it is both a transport and gunship at once, which is very cool and something the West needed for a long time, but never had.

  • @ameritoast5174

    @ameritoast5174

    Жыл бұрын

    This is incorrect. The Raider X is not linke the hind because it does not have transport capabilities as well. it would strictly be scouting and no crew capacity over the 2 pilots. I think a play it safe is exactly what the army needs. Which is why I think the bell heli is the right choice. AA and manpads are getting better and better. Having a cheaper heli with proven tech will be beneficial. Also these are designed to be remotely piloted so they could risk these things in more dangerous missions.

    oh i have thought about improving helicopter aerodynamics and manoeuvrability and came to the conclusion it can only de done by reducing the cock pit to body pitch by 75 degrees. so you'd have a cockpit completely offset to the body kinda like bobba fett slave 1 but off set to the plane of the body it will make it easier to be precise with targets and much more manoeuvrable.
