WOW! I thing this is the first video I've seen where 10 minutes was more than enough. Excellent update to the jig. Using your original jig. I flip the jig around to do Tight at the front and then loose on the remainder down the caucus. It's a little bit fidding but it lines up every time.

Brilliant! yet another thing I have to buy😃. I really like what you have done with this and looks like an amazingly simple to use and versatile jig. Now this may just be me or my diminishing eyesight, but I found my Peanut jig much easier to use freestyle on pencil lines by extending the line from the jig through the cutout with a fine Japanese saw. So that it actually would meet with the line on the work piece thus avoiding any parallax effect.

Thanks! Unfortunately those kind of ‘line extensions’ onto the edge of the jig are really expensive to machine as it’s a(nother) separate process. 🤷‍♂️👍

Nice one Peter. You've sorted what would be my only criticism - standard 30mm bush compatible.👍 Funny, I've never actually used my plus jig to make a cabinet. Do use it on every one of my coffee/side tables though - 22mm stock. Excellent affordable widget. Every success with the new one mate.🙌

Jig looks very well made. I bought a similar jig from another youtuber but its made from MR mdf, its a good jig but the appearance of bare mdf makes it feel like I could have made it myself.

This is fantastic. Well done. Ordered. For my (non-production) purposes, replaces a Domino 500 and LR32 for less than a 1/10th the price.

You might be the first really “killer” replacement for the festool domino. For the same money (less maybe?) buy this and the festool router vs buying the domino. Two tools for the price of one. I’m sure the domino still makes the best sense for a production shop, but for the hobbiest /amateur level its a spot on solution.

Looks great, Peter. I think my horrendous Ryobi plunge router actually has a 30mm template guide (better measure it) but I cannot get consistent depth settings out of it... ah perhaps with a bit more practice I'll get there

Hi Peter. I purchased the earlier plus version and liked everything coming in the black bag. However I did think that you missed a trick. When I purchased something from Ralph at Benchdogs, his bag was branded with this. I think branding your bags would have really taken my 10 out of 10 rating up to 11.

I had to go back twice. At 4:07, you really did say to use a 4.76mm bit. 😢 pretty sure I’ll have to mortgage the house to get one of them, … or maybe I’ll get some yank to send me a 1/8”. 😂

4.76 is 5/16” and they’re about £15 for the one that I supply in the starter pack plus, if bought individually. That’s for a nice solid carbide spiral upcut bit. 👌

I'm afraid I've been a cheapscate & built a copy of this jig to see how much I use it. The fit & finish won't be as tight as your product. If I find I'm using it often then I might release the moths from my wallet & order one. One suggestion for future models. Would it not make sense to flip it over in the same way as for the shelf pin holes, with the holes for the guide pins on the other face, rather than dissassembling the jig for cutting the mid panel loose tenons? Or cut the counter sink on both faces so you can do it either way. I've also not worked out what the two holes near the depth gague are for.

Bit late to the party but i’ve just got this jig. One thing i miss from the earlier version is the lack of ability to reference slots using the depth guide. To accommodate a 30mm guide bush, this slot is now too wide to fit loose tenons. Might be handy if there was some sort of insert to make this feature work?

Hi there. Yes, it was a consequence of moving to the 30mm guide bush; I did consider a stepped slot - wide enough at the top for a guide bush, but stepped to fit the domino, but the lack of consistency in guide bush depths meant that it added more complexity to cut the jig than I felt was warranted, and after a bit of research it turned out that almost nobody I asked used that feature; you are actually the first person to mention it after a year of the LTJ30 being on sale, which kind of proves the point! As for an insert, it's a 19mm domino in a 30mm slot; if you're not comfortable eyeballing that - bearing in mind that the slot you're cutting is +/- a couple of mm wider than the Domino you're using - then a 5x30 Domino on end acts as a pretty good packer, and if it's something you do a lot then you could make up a simple jig from two Dominos and a crosspiece glued onto the ends. Given the overall lack of enthusiasm for that particular feature though, it's not something I'll be looking at supplying with the jig. Hope that makes sense. Best, Peter

I'm interested in the recommendation you made on using a 4.76mm (3/16ths inch) bit for the pins. I've certainly had issues with shelf pins being loose, but a 4.9mm bit would seem closer to what is required for a snug fit (not saying that is easily found.) Isn't that a bit too tight? Also, what type of bit is it? The festool bit(s) has that brad point that reduces tear out, is yours similar or just a plain router bit?

The one I supply is a spiral upcut bit - similar to those used in a CNC - and the ‘5mm’ shelf pins I’ve measured have all come in at closer to 4.8mm, so a 4.76 fits pretty nicely. The jig is available without the bits so anyone can use their own preferred supplier. 👍

That’s a great question and honestly I don’t know; probably not, as it just wasn’t a consideration when I designed this, but I’ll check when I’m back in the workshop. 👍

Question, when you build like this do you just clamp and glue no extra nails or screws? is that sufficient? for kitchen cabinets including wall cabinets?

It’s plenty strong enough just glued and clamped, though on a run of kitchen cabinets there’s no harm in adding a mechanical fixing in there on the internal faces. 👍👍

Hi Peter, Really love this Jig and was actually looking at the Tenon Jig Plus as I want to connect two 2.4 mtr length laminate 28mm thick kitchen worktops together side by side. Its for my workbench. But one thing I was looking at which I think would be a huge benefit and extra selling point. Is by using the holes on the plus version. Could you use and add additional holes in the centre in production, so that it could be a small template to make an MFT top? This would be such a great option and give even more be efits to what is already a fantastic tool. Just don’t fancy spending in my case nearly £200 for a UKJ mft tool. Just an idea and something I would by in a heart beat for even more money. Take care Peter 👍

Hi Mark, and thanks. I’ve looked into the option of combining MFT ability into this jig and decided against it as it would be terribly compromised - slow to use, and with questionable accuracy, as you’d need so many moves of the jig to cover a full too. I do have an MFT solution coming before too long though, so keep your eyes peeled for that. 👍👍

Do you envisage problems in using this for a table top glue up to align the individual boards? The domino’s would be off centre in the thicker material but not sure that would be a big issue. Thanks!

The only thing I'd be slightly cautious about would be cutting the mortices into the edges; as long as the boards aren't too big or you can support them vertically, then there's be no issue with alignment. 👍

good work there, I am tempted to purchase one but I'm a bit concerned that I won't be able to use my router with it, I have a trend t7 1/2" router for bigger work and a battery ryobi palm router which can't be used as a plunge router, it was this smaller palm router i was hoping to use with the jig. do you think it will be possible?

Thanks. You need a plunge router, or a router with a plunge base. This jig is made with larger routers in mind, so the T7 should be OK with it. 👍

My jig should arrive tomorrow- can’t wait. Just a quick question,: when would you go from 2 domino’s to 3(or more) on a joint using 5x 30 domino’s?

My general rule of thumb was 2 for a bookcase, 3 for a carcass or cabinet. Don’t think I ever used more than 3 on a cabinet. 👍

I'm not at home so I can't check, but I don't think that the 1400 has any way to adjust the bushing. Remember seeing a couple of people complaining about it on the internet. Sounds like a pretty substantial design flaw to me. Mark@@danthechippie4439

It’ll work with any loose tenon that the DF500 can take, as long as you can get the bits for your router. 👍

Mine finally arrived today after a 10 day delay due to PorcelFarce.... Initial delivery was not at my address, & ring doorbell confirms this... Rechechedule for Saturday never happened... Went & picked it up from the post centre 02/09/23 & they didn't have a clue Re-direction sticker was applied for 26/08/23 but it never left the depot - What are RM up to????

I wasn't in a rush for it :) It was RM48 tracked, I generically call all RM packages PorcelFarce :) Just couldn't get to the depot before Saturday. I've only had a quick look over it, working again today, but it looks like a nicely made jig.

Very nice and much less expensive than a Domino. But over $100 usd for a jig.. hard to justify for me.

It’s a jig that allows you to make domino joints, dowel joints, and Peanut 2 joints, all using a pin-registration system like the domino - and also does shelf-pin holes, and as you say is a fraction of the price of a domino. The price is a reflection of the jigs capabilities, and the quality of manufacture. 👍
