Newun - the first wherry on the North Walsham and Dilham Canal for 100 years.
Canal Hunter takes a look at the ongoing restoration of the North Walsham and Dilham Canal. We examine the role the new wherry Newun will play in clearing the lower reaches, as well as taking a fly by over the rewatered northern pound.
NB - In this video I incorrectly give the date of Laurie Ashton's death as 2022 whereas in fact it was June 2021.

I am very fond of the area, although I live far away now.
Excellent and very interesting episode Andy ,indeed a beautiful area hope it does get restored 👍
Slight date error: Laurie Ashton passed away in June of 2021, not 2022 as the footage advises.

My mistake Julie - its correct in the written version!
I could imagine some canals would be reopened for electric narrowboats only... This may e.g. be the solution for the Montgomery canal, I can imagine...
Interesting to see a new wherry being built. Have you ever read "Black Sailed Traders"? A book that covers some of the history of the wherry and their demise, long out of print but I dare say can still be found in second hand bookshops (real or online).

I read Black Sailed Traders a few years back - fascinating.
one of the ugliest boats ever built, if only he had bought 10 fair battens
