The NewsBoys still rocks today, regardless of who the singer is, but they were better in the earlier years of the band! They were a band that loves God then, and they are a band that loves God now.

I really appreciated alot of the songs. Especially those that have scripture, and meaningful lyrics . Also love the poppy-hip-hoppy songs . I for one LOVE the Peter Furler solo album..." On Fire" featuring l"m alive".. Every song is great, me and my husband, being from old school 70-'-90's music .. Love Love Love the song " never ending love song".. We play it over and over. But all of the songs are GREAT! Listening to newsboys i am now learning to play the bass... And i am 45 years old!!! :) God has been great!

He was the best lead vocal in the history of newsboys. I saw newsboys live in 94 as a kid , loved it, went two years later to another newsboys concert and was disappointed, John James faded away, drugs personal issues , but amazing guy and rebounded as he's preaching now !

Furler left the band b/c mainly his marriage was falling apart and he still cowrites a lot of the Newsboys music, believe it or not. To me, I see his solo album was just him trying to relive the earlier days when the band had just this pure techno-hip hoppish/poppy tune with some guitar. Peter was the last of the original Newsboys to leave.

In regards to what piratesmvp has said in regards to a difference in Christian popular music and Christian worship music, yes, there is indeed a difference. While Christian popular music may have some elements of worship music within it, its a totally different genre in itself. Today there seems to be a movement within Christian music, in regards to pop, that has the artists blend in a little worship music on the disc so that those who do love that style may have it and be satisfied. But, the only problem I do see with that is this: A big majority of what we call Christian worship music today, but certainly not all of it, a big majority of it, in my opinion, is shallow and that is very unfortunate. What I mean by shallow is that there is no theological meat within some of the songs. While I do enjoy a lot of Christian worship artists - Christ Tomlin, Kristin Stanfill, Matt Redman, Rend Collective Experiment, etc - one of my favorite songs by them is this one - Rend Collective Experiment - The Cost - its a must listen to, anyways, back on to the comment I am trying to make - the brothers and sisters in Christ that have gone before us and the worship music they used in their services etc, they have a ton of theological meat within them and they are sadly missing within the church today. Sadly, today what we have done is catered to the culture, catered to the seeker in regards to our worship services, in hopes that those who do not know Christ will know Him and receive salvation by what the lyrics are in the worship songs. Some do hope that their heart will be broken by the Holy Spirit when they are playing their songs in church and will come to Christ, but, why should the church bow down to the culture or cater to someone who is a seeker? Many non-Christians do come to church and they leave after the service the same way they came in - not a Christian. Culture should never dictate to the church what form of worship is acceptable or not, culture should never dictate to the church what a pastor in his sermon/message should ever say and we do see that happening today and its sad. But, in the same sense, all of what is happening today within the Body of Christ, the church, has been going on since the early Christians so we should not be surprised when we are confronted with these things. Church services has always been about building up the flock and coming together as a family, as one body in Christ, as one church, so that those who indeed are followers of Christ, disciples of Christ, can be strengthened in their faith and learn more and more in regards to what the scripture has said and does say to us in our time. Seekers that do come in and there is absolutely nothing wrong with having people that do not know Christ come to a service, but we must not begin to cater the message/sermon to them, so that what the pastor says during the sermon/message, the pastor should not be worried about offending the seeker. Christians should never back down from speaking the truth, from showing others the truth, from proclaiming the truth to those who do not know Him. We must never shy away from His command to take His Gospel to the ends of the world. God is the one that will give a person the gift of faith, the gift of repentance, so that by what the pastor does state, the Holy Spirit would move on that persons heart and conscience and break it, completely shatter it, so that in the end, he can see just how much of a wretch he is, so that the grace of Christ, salvation that is only found in Christ will taste much more sweet and will be irresistible to those whom The Father has chosen. Why do we sometimes think that we are any better or that we know any better, in regards to worship music, then all of the brothers and sisters in Christ that have gone before us. I do hope that those worship songs that have been used for many, many years, before of all this modern worship, will make a return to our churches, a return to the Body of Christ and may we be blessed by them and even learn and see all their many riches and precious truths that are found within. In Christ

I wholeheartedly agree about the state of Christian Contemporary music, be it worship or pop. We have become too concerned with being all accepting, or accepted by the masses when it is Christ we are called to receive (Rev. 3:20) Being disapointed in the content of most modern Christian music, a dear friend of mine and pastor, pointed me to Sovereign Grace Music. I find the great majority of their songs to be deep in biblical content and of sound theological foundation, while reflecting a more current musical style. I encourage you to look for them. I am using many of their songs in our praise and worship sets at church.

@hellomikie92 Worship music is precisely the their problem. They were never a worship band until the 2000s. They've always been pure pop. Furler and Taylor had great songwriting skills to make songs that sent a message without sounding like a song you'd sing in church. Then, John James left and the Newsboys changed their genre 6 times. It's no wonder Peter Furler left the band and is now recreating the original Newsboys with real pop music in his solo work.

@piratesmvp Very true, but regardless of who the singer is, they still know how to make Worship Music! I wish John James, would come back too. If he didn't have a alcohol, and drug obsession, he would of probably stayed in the band longer. I think thats why he left, cause the band didn't like his alcohol drug obsession, oh well.

What's wrong is that it hasn't moved up with the times. Poppy rock was popular in the 90s. Today, the most popular pop music is Country pop, Dance pop, and house is now making its way into the mainstream. What does Christian music have to offer for this? Very little. There are some artists who try, but they're not really that big. The big Christian artists are still making worship and not meeting popular demand for modern pop. That's why more and more Christians are listening to secular music.

@piratesmvp Well they were always a Christian Band, I mean Their earlier albums still mentioned God and Jesus. They probably weren't always the worship style according to you, but they mentioned God, in their songs, and Jesus too. right?
