Newlyweds in 90k Debt - Til Debt Do Us Part 402 - Get Financially Fit
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Newlyweds Tim and Tonya haven’t been able to enjoy their first year of marriage because they’re so worried about their massive consumer debt. At $90,000, their debt is a black hole they see no way out of. Tim’s convinced their condo is the cause of their problems, while Tonya wonders if it isn’t Tim’s career as a fitness instructor that’s sinking them. Gail shows both the error of their ways so they can get back on track financially.

Gail came into my store in Guelph, Ontario (I think she lives there) about 8 years ago. I was up on a ladder painting over a patch I’d done on a wall. It wasn’t until after I’d come down to say hello that I recognized her. She smiled at me and asked why I’m up the ladder doing this kind of thing? I smiled back bigger and said “no money”. She laughed. She’s wonderful.
I am loving Canadian reality shows they are less dramatic than Americans ones. If this was an American show they would be an extra 30 minutes of shouting, useless arguments about fake divorces etc. This is refreshing no reality TV fluff just some calm people seeking for genuine help and a host who is willing to help.

How do you get married and not review your financial situation before hand? All of my friends had this discussion, I remember my one girlfriend told her fiance he had to get out of debt and save $5,000 before they could set the date. That made so much sense, he had to get control of his finances and it started the relationship off on the right foot. She wasn't saying he needed to make a fortune, or that she wanted him for his money, but she wanted it to be on an equal footing and move forward together.

My late husband and I used envelopes back in 1968. We never lived above our means. We never tried to keep up with the Jones. My husband passed almost three years ago. We were married over 51 years. Diana Binkowski, Sorry for your loss. Up until September this year I did a weekly budget using envelopes. Now I still do weekly cash budget, but I used plastic wallets. Got a pack of 5 in a Euro shop. It's like the dollar store on your side of the Atlantic. Have no debts. At the risk of being rude, I have to ask. Wouldn't it be better to pay off your mortgage? With the interest saved, you'd have more for savings, indulgences or charity.
The trick to ceilings is to use 2.5 inch angled brush and stay down about an eight of an inch from the ceiling on the first coat. On the second coat your brush will slide so smoothly and you can push that paint right up to the ceiling for a nice smooth line
I love that Gail did the cooking challenge with them 😂 she is so down to earth

@@prg4647 It was *definitely* a thing back then but not every bank offered it. Also, not everyone knew about auto payment, and many times people who knew about it would refuse to use it because they were afraid of overdrafts because they would neglect to reserve some money in their account for the payment. That's why I would recommend getting an online only bank account specifically to hold bill/mortgage money: they tend to have NO fees associated with them and even the free checking accounts usually net you some interest back.
Actually when I get my money for the month I said it aside what is bills what is for our needs are and then then whatever's left over at in a month is our play money or goes into savings account usually goes into the savings account unless I buy like little Christmas gifts at the Goodwill or summer cheap

This show could be so much better. Sorry but the woman who tries to help is just missing the mark or maybe the information that would really put the show in a good place isn't able to be shared. I think her suggestions are weak. The $5000 is a drop in the bucket to what most of these people need, not much of a reward. In nearly all these couples, the women are unemployed (housewives), underemployed (part time work), or in horribly low paid jobs (teachers, social workers, care aides, counselors, child care providers, or some other feel-good, pink collar , bleeding heart job that pays bupkis.) As someone who was horribly underpaid in teaching, this is not something that’s revealed to you in your university education. Teaching degrees at the elementary level are also very difficult to apply to other fields. Encouraging people to move away from those careers is all well and good, but then there will be no day care to help both parents be employed full time and even less support for kids outside of the classroom, meaning the parents will have to take on more of those responsibilities and will have to work less. It’s not the fix you think it is; notwithstanding that responsible spending Can absolutely lead to a reasonably comfortable life even if one partner is working in a “pink-collar” field.
