Love the view from Our Lady of Exile. Found it quite by accident last summer! Tallow is called Beef dripping in proper English (Yes I am a passive aggressive Englishman). Yeah I can see a pastry being made from dripping from that part of the world. My grandmother who was Austrian use to make sweet pastries with lard, and some savoury pastries in the UK still use lard. Sounds delicious!

However, could you not incorporate a bit more content for expats living in Prague? For example, how to get a long-term permit of stay, car parking permission in the blue zones, how to find good english-speeking physicians, dentists, how to find language courses, etc. That'd be great. Dekuji. Na shledanou :-)

Hey guys, as an ex-pat living in Prague for studies, I love your videos. I wanted to clarify the word of the week. (Vepřové) Škvarky - is made from Pork fat layer, and sometimes skin layer, which is roasted to render (melt) the fat. What is left is puffed up and crispy (Škvarky). In English, this crispy puffed skin and the remainder of the fat tissue is called pork crackling, pork scratching, or even pork rind. The melted fat is then cooled and is called Lard (vepřové sádlo). If there is no skin but just the remainder of the fat layer after rendering, this is the waste product (škvar), thus the naming. Tallow is English for the name for the melted fat which is from beef (hovezí sádlo), also known as beef dripping. It is traditional for fish and chips to be made in tallow so the word is still somewhat popular. I do not think that Škvarky, in general, is made from cows in the Czech Republic, and it's likely they used the pork škvarky in the pastries when not specified. Just an important distinction as there are a lot of Jewish and some Muslim people who travel to Prague and therefore would avoid these pastry stores (pekárna). I hope I wrote this in a way so that non-native English or Czech speakers can understand, so I put the Czech terms in brackets.

Actually, škvarky are not fat (although they are very fatty :D). It is often paired with fat (lard) in a spread, but škvarky are small, usually crunchy pieces of meat fried in lard, or what is left from the meat when you extract the lard from it. I've checked dictionary and wiki and it suggested škvarky in english is cracklings or pork rind.

I am a fully vaccinated UK resident currently in Dresden, Germany. I've been in Germany 2 weeks and was hoping to travel to Prague. Am I correct in that travel for tourism is not currenty possible in the Czech Republic?
