Imagine when they put out their first album, i've listened to their 6 songs so much I swear they never get old

new jeans literally yeeted the basic kpop genre framework and carving their own path. This MV made it official, I’m a stan!

I'm just completely fallen in love with NewJeans. Their mini discography is exactly my kind of music, r&b mixed with some soft trap. I've loved every single release they've put out, every listen just gets better, my personal opinion. I can't wait for what they have in store for 2023. As for the MV, I just want to point out a pattern I'm seeing, I said this somewhere else, but from B-side "Hurt" title to donating album sales to the hearing impaired, to theories about hallucinations in Ditto MV, to OMG MV looking like a mental hospital & the girls are kind of going insane thinking theyre smth theyre not. Screams 'Mental Health/Humane Well-Being Awareness" imo. This is good, it's builds a humanitarian, charitable, reputation for this rookie group. They on a good path. I'm proud of what they've accomplished so far. (Just wanted to share) ❤

I think it's that 90s to early 2000's vibe that a lot of people are really feeling. Honestly, pop music around that time was at its all-time peak and NewJeans has brought that style back in modern form.

They took having new concepts every comeback and threw it out the window 😂 instead they’re doing it like any artists in the west and sticking to their own sound and genre. I think that’s what people mean when they are a breath of fresh air. They are consistent and really perfecting their craft instead of dabbling on new concepts half assed. I hope they stick to this trajectory! I love their sound and now we have a story line too!

this is my take on it- the music video was just a camp way of expressing the idol's side of the parasocial relationship between an artist and a fan. hanni's monologue in the beginning really brings that to light: "when you call me, i will run to you anytime anywhere. i exist for you" it brings the concern of artists having to exist only for the fans- they're trying to say they're *real* people too. she's an "iphone", basically a metaphor for being a person who has to run and be 'on' when the button (app) is pushed. danielle is very smily/bubbly type of person. fans always comment on her happy attitude and when she's watching the tv static and laughing at it, i think it shows that she's stuck in the label that people cast on her. so she's just laughing at nothing in that scene. hyein has princess syndrome, because while always trying to dress up and be her prettiest self for the fans, she forgets reality and confuses herself with fairytales. (snow white, sleeping beauty, and the revenant references) haerin- ever since debut, fans and nonfans have said haerin looks like a cat so much that she actually starts to believe she's a cat. minji is the unofficial leader of the group (there are no positions in nwjns, but a lot of people and myself included think she has leadership qualities) and she's the oldest. so she's been known to take care of her members very well. hence her thinking she is a doctor who's under pressure to take care of her members. i think the team at ador and hybe are VERY self aware of media and newjeans' market. they know what people say about newjeans!! this is their first comeback and only 5 months since their debut and they're already challenging the industry and doing callbacks to their debut! a MASTERPEICE of a music video, and the song is 10/10! i love the breaking of the 4th wall, i love how they called out their haters at the end of the video, i love hanni dressed as steve jobs. i mean, this video has it all- humor, weird/quirkyness, references, callbacks, serious topic, lore, introspection, thought provoking... no one is doing it like newjeans. i mean that literally, this has never been done before.

Here's my theory : In Ditto mv, the girl who was always recording them is real. She was lonely and maybe got into idol/pop music and went "oh if only I had a trainee/idol friend group" and then she CREATED them. So, new jeans is her imaginary friends. Trainee/idol friends who that girl gave life to, she named them, she gave them characters and personality etc. The "he" could be the boy in the ditto mv. Maybe the girl fell in love or whatever and now doesn't need her imaginary friends anymore. But new jeans have a life of their own. So now that they're not needed anymore, they're having a identity crisis. In the middle of the mv, somebody (I'm sorry Idk their names yet) says "no guys we're filming a mv right now" and then at the end the breaking the 4th wall thing. So yeah! That's what I think. 😄

okay so new jeans are mental hospital patients, hanni is lovesick, she can't get over her ex and can't move on from the past, hyein is severe princess/ fairy tale syndrome, she thinks she's a princess from a fairytale, haerin thinks she's a cat, her mind has alr got brain washes thinking she's a cat, she even eats cat food, danielle thinks she's an idol and keeps seeing things others can't see (her imagination, she thinks the hospital is an music video set with cameras, staffs ect) while minji thinks she isnt a patient, she thinks she's a doctor helping cure the members illness, she also tries to help cure this one patient only to find out that the patient is actually her Hope that helps

It's a commentary on how the expectations of fans on idols throws them into identity crisis and makes them "crazy" or "sick". And like you said at the end, actually, we're all sick. The girls have to deal with all the expectations put on them by fans and the general public and lose sight of who they are. Meanwhile we have "protectors" like the doctor in the beginning, who later becomes the bear and is overprotective of the girls and ends up causing more harm (like the bear in The Revenant protecting her babies). We later see him cower and look longingly at the girls from afar. He's "sick" too. I see this as overprotective fans. In the end, as Attention plays and they say "You got me looking for attention", Minji tells us to stop and that that's enough. In other words, Attention is good up to a point and too much attention makes us all "crazy". Doctor version of Minji coming to take the commenter (hater) away whose username is (all people) implies that we are also "sick" and need to join them in the asylum. My takeaway is OMG is about how people need to chill tf out and touch grass LOL There are so many small details in this that amaze me. - Hanni is dressed as Steve Jobs - Haerin is the same cat that was in Ditto because Ban HeeSoo (Bunnies) called her Kitty Kang. In reality many fans said she's a kitty because of her cat-like features. - There are many bunnies littered throughout and even a girl holding a bunny doll in sitting on the chairs off to the side. - The Christmas party scene is when the Matchstick Girl uses her last matches to see what brings her the most joy - The "doctor" that shows up at the end is actually Chim Chak Man, a famous KZreadr who originally became famous as a webtoon creator under a different name but completely rebranded his identity as a KZreadr. This fits as the whole MV is about being unable to find your identity.

This felt very revolting to me personally because I do have a lot of criticism against min heejin(taemins instance, super young members, cookies lyrics, etc.) and I felt that this was just a way to insult those who have opinions that arent exactly complimentary

Nah. It's more about saying we're all "crazy" as we all succumb to the pressures to conform and follow expectations and the pressure of others. The Idol - Fan relationship is just one part of that. It's about identity crisis more than anything and about needed to truly find who we are and worry less about who others are.

I just wanna say first this isn’t my theory it’s Hidden_Anima theory I just think that it make so much sense I wanted to share it! First,the music video director was concerned that the music video was 'What if the members of NewJeans are still free and creative friends, but their actions are misunderstood by the public and they stop expressing themselves? It is said that they expressed their concern that their own colors and expressions as artists and humans would lose their light in the music video. "I'll run whenever you call me~ I exist for you" Hani's line may be expressing Siri, but it's a very important line to express idols. She is expressed as a patient who sings for us, tries for us, and then eventually loses herself and thinks that she is an iPhone (Siri) who has to do anything when she presses the button. Daniel, who is always known to fans for smiling, is always smiling while watching TV with nothing on it, and Hye-in, who was pretending to be pretty for her fans, forgets her situation and thinks she is a princess. So while projecting herself on all princess fairy tales, the steps are twisted, and the prince dies after eating a poisonous apple, and the sleeping princess in the forest dies when a bear appears. Hae-rin, who has been hearing that she looks like a cat, is now even thinking she is a cat. In a similar situation, Min-ji misunderstands that she is a doctor even though she is a patient under pressure to take care of her leader role and members.

There are two Minjis. The doctor Minji feels the pressure of being the leader and the unnie figure that has to listen to everyone and help with their problems and protect everyone. The "sick" Minji is the one who doesn't have the members around her and literally doesn't know what to do because her whole identity is based on her being the leader. The deeper meaning is connected with Ditto. Ditto was about the fans' perspective on idols and how distanced the relationship is no matter how parasocial we try to be. Meanwhile OMG is about the impact that parasocial relationship has on idols and also the fans as well. It's about identity crisis and unhealthy relationships.
