To understand this MV... You need to understand the concept of an Idol, not a musician. Idol is a secure refuge from sobering reality as teenagers. and these two have such a strong connection. Camcorder girl symbolizes Fans who stan New jeans. However, as she grows up... she's getting further and further away from Idol. Because she falls in love and gets a job in a real life. Basically this MV is about the relationship between Fans and the Idol. Umbrella and girl's cast are the medium through which they comfort each other. And the deer is said to mean an Idol who is far from approaching. It will not be easy for y'all to understand because it's a sympathy derived from the problem of korean education, which is the most competitive in the world. But people who were obsessed with something as an escape from wandering in their teenage years might understand. Just rambling. I hope this is helpful.

as much as i want to agree, i like to believe that newjeans in this mv does not represent any idol at all, theyre just friends with the girl thats having fun (if they were idols, they wouldve been visually explicited about it such as bright hair or cool outfits but no, they only wore casual clothing throughtout the story with black hair as if theyre just typical teenagers). Side A is how the girl continuously accepts her imaginary friends as they give her comfort while side B is more on accepting the reality, breaking the camera, which she goes to the boy as he is much more tangible and realistic, which means she had to leave her imaginary friends. From what I've searched, deer represents gentleness and heart intelligence, this just strengthen the notion in which in side A, the girl saw the deer on an empty icy field where her heart is on something that is not real, thats why on Side B, she saw the deer on her school hallways, since she has finally accepted reality, as she finds comfort on real world (with the guy). Regarding the cast, i think it just represents her being broken since you can only see her not wearing it at the end of the Side B as she looks grown up and reminisce before since, her imaginary friends completes her.

I saw another interpretation that said that New Jeans were the girls’ long gone friends from an accident, and that that was the reason she had a cast. She was the only survivor and the guilt kind of made her redo everything she used to do with her friends. The classmates knew but kind of thought that she might want to deal with it alone until the boy started noticing her behavior and got interested. As she grew up, she moved on but still kept all those records with her friends. Another thing, I wouldn’t say the Korean education system is the most competitive, but one of them. There are a lot of strict systems out there including the Korean one.

I'm Indian and our education system is termed as one of the most competitive and toughest too on top of that and I really found solace in kpop throughout my teens and for my struggles. I can't even express it in words how much they mean to me. it's been 7 years in now and my priorities have changed and I'm not watching much but trust me whenever I see them, I feel so nostalgic and all the struggles rush back and i'm overwhelmed but happy, definitely. (sorry if there are any mistakes, eng is my 3rd lang)

The 6th girl's full name is Ban Hee Soo[ ban hi su]. Ban Hee Soo represents Bunnies. Bunnies is the fan name of NewJeans.

how did u know her last name was Ban? based on both sides of MVs, they only mentioned her as Heeseo (희수 or Hui-su). There was no details mentioned that the last name of the girl was Ban.

according to the many theories , it can be that , yeah the 5 girls r not alive anymore , and the 6th girl whose face we dont see , only imagines them as they used to friends before , thats why she records them too- another theory is that , it represents the relationship between an idol and a fan too , like the happiness they give us , the smiles , the laughter , only we can see it and its not understandable to people who see it from outside as they see it as a blank , but to us they r our imaginary friends

the 2nd theory makes more sense to me tbh especially with the scene where Heesoo stands in front of the deer. Deers represent innocence so in side B the deer moves away from her possibly meaning that her innocence is slowly fading away. She must grow up and detach herself from her imaginary world in order to be a responsible adult and build real and not virtual relationships like she did with NewJeans. During the end of side B she can be seen reminiscing her tape just like we will do when we sadly forget or rather move on from our memories of being apart of a fandom however we will still feel the bond that connected us with our idols. I also like to believe that the videos do not revolve around those two theories only but a third theory where the girls sadly have to say goodbye to their fellow trainee Heesoo on their way to debut whereas she sadly has to stay and continue training for her dream or follow a different path which is what she does in side B. One thing's for sure, NewJeans didn't disappoint once again

my theory tho is u get to pick on how the story goes, side A is how the girl continuously accepts her imaginary friends for comfort, making her still delusional at the end while side B is how she began to be in touch with reality, finding comfort to someone that is real and actually exist (the guy). I really feel like they're just supposed to be imaginary, not to represent an idol (if they were idols, the directors wouldve been clear about it through making them have bright hair and cool outfits but no, they only wore casual clothes throughout the story, as if they were just typical students / friends of the girl).

The girl's name, Ban Hee Soo, is a fun expression of bunnies' Korean pronunciation and symbolizes fans. Like a girl who watches members on a video camera, fans watch TV or KZread videos, and the boy represents real problems (academic, employment), and the wind and rain mean trials. They support each other, but in the eyes of those around them, idols are only seen as otaku. Throwing away the camcorder means quitting fan activities, and as Minji said, the scene of looking at the deer from afar expresses the distance between fan and idol. Two major theory exists for now: The first one is that they all got in a car accident and the girl recording was the only one who survived. Second one ( my personal favorite) is that the all mv is about parasocial relationships. The girl recording is a newjeans’ fan ( her name kinda sound similar to the fandom’s name) and she keeps hallucinating about being close to the members as the group brings her confort and support but at the same time isolate her from the people in real life ( like the guy who’s noticing her throughout the mv) Sorry for the basic explanation my english isn’t that good 😅. my theory is that basically the girl and new jeans were friends maybe in a dance club and then they all got into an accident recently which is why the girl has the cast and she cant cope with it so she goes to all the places she went to before with them to recreate video’s theyve taken in the past which is why as an adult she has the vhs tapes. the guy in the mv knew them which is why he looks worried about her instead of weirded out like the rest. shes seeing new jeans because their ghosts are with her watching over her until she can move on. the deer that keeps appearing is hanni cause hanni is the most suspicious and the odd one out in the pictures for the album and she’s making sure that the girl can move on and the scene with the overgrown grass where new jeans is doing a dance where theyre very flowy and fold in together is their ghosts finally being able to pass on since shes moved on. i like how when the song says “ive got nothing to lose” she throws down the camera and breaks it because she has nothing on there to lose because all the videos she took after the accident didnt have them in it so it wouldve just been hurting her to keep it.

There's many theories for the music video! Some are saying that newjeans were the friends of heesoo and they died in accident so now they are ghost and the guy is her crush and helped her to move on and accept the reality. Others are saying that they are imaginary friends! And the last theory is that the mv shows the relationship between a fan and idols like you are supporting them by watching their videos (the camera) and you feel like you are friends with them but in the end you can't you have your own life. I think they both focus on the opposite spectrums of a parasocial relationship. In Ditto Heesoo (the girl he films) he sees NewJeans as his friends, but that's not the reality. As the MV progresses, she realizes that she can't keep holding on to a relationship that doesn't exist. He gets in touch with reality by making real life relationships. This is transmitted with the child. At the end of Ditto Part B, Heesso is older and remembers how he loved NewJeans. It's NewJeans telling us that our music will always be there, but live your life because you don't want to miss those kinds of moments. In OMG the parasocial relationship is through the perspective of NewJeans. All the things that we Bunnies fans or roles gave them comes through in them. It shows how fans can impact idols. This kind of reality check is shown with them in the psych ward. For example, Minji is kind to the role of mother in the group and has gotten so into her role that she thinks she is a doctor helping the girls when in reality she is a patient like the rest of them. Another example is Haerin. The bunnies have said she has cat features and now she thinks she's a literal cat because she feels that's the role she's stuck in.

I think this was inspired in the movie Ditto (2000), where the girl uses his dad's ham radio (but here they used a camera) to communicate with his dad's bestfriend from the past (i think this is the story because this is the plot from Ditto 2022 movie), you can also see that their uniforms are different.
