I believe this music video is about fan-artist interactions. Heesoo represents the fans. She is always behind the screen, recording and witnessing New Jeans as they perform and she is a part of their journey as a group, and they feel like friends to her. New Jeans is always there for Heesoo to comfort her, like in the crying scene, and they're basically growing up together. I think the part where Heesoo walks in the rain is the turning point. In part A she goes into the rain with New Jeans and they walk and play together, but in part B, she decides to open her umbrella and walk away from them. Part A represents her continuing her journey as a fan of New Jeans, while part B represents her growing up and distancing herself from New Jeans. The end of part A shows how other people view the fan-artist interaction. Although it looked like Heesoo was not recording anyone the whole time, and other people stared at her weirdly, she was still connected to them in her mind, just like how relationships between idols and fans work in real life. Heesoo's nail was still painted when she woke up from her nap. It shows how artists still have an impact on their fans' lives despite not always being there physically. However, in part B, Heesoo is seen overlooking the girls dancing in the parking lot, but there is a visible distance between them. There are no longer any drawings on her cast, and it seems like she feels like an outcast in the fandom. In the end of this parking lot scene, she turns around and walks away. She then breaks her camera, and leaves her memories of New Jeans behind, walking alone in the rain. But as she moves on from them, it also shows how New Jeans is always there for her in the background, like how Minji was calling her on the flip phone while she was crying in her room. It shows how they will always be there to offer refuge and comfort if she wishes to return to the fandom. The boy in part B represents life and healing, and how there are things that may take precedence over our fan-artist interactions and become more of a priority. As Heesoo gets more involved with the boy, he helps her heal, and she moves on from being a fan of New Jeans and grows up, hence the scene of her walking away from the school with him in the sun. The end of part B shows how New Jeans will always be a part of her youth. It shows Heesoo later on in life, and she is watching the recorded VHS tapes and is fondly reminiscing on her time with New Jeans. Despite moving on and growing up, rewatching the tapes brought her back to a time where she was heavily involved in the fandom. And through these videos it's like a sense of nostalgia brings New Jeans back through the door of her life, and this is represented by the couch scene at the end and the New Jeans girls saying "I haven't been here in so long"

I could talk for hours about the ending scene of part B, it's just so heart wrenching. How Hyein was peeking around the corner, basically asking permission, making sure that she was welcome back into Heesoo's life. And then once she got the confirmation, all the girls started running and laughing and saying "it's been so long!" And they entered Heesoo's room as if they never left, jumping onto her couch and saying "let's watch a movie and eat snacks!" It's such a comforting resolution to the storyline.

Ditto is an old movie where the 2 main characters live in 2 differents eras. One in the 70's and the other in the 2000's. But they can talk to each other through a radio, then they fall in love without knowing that they are not from the same eras (kinda like your name). That's why , in the mv New jeans have an uniform that seems older than the one Heesoo have. (I hope I explained that well, english isn't my first language 😭)

Just like in real life, New Jeans was only a part of this girls life only when she was giving them attention or being a fan. She thought she had to give up watching them to live her life, she even missed a fancall. But even after a long time when she want back to watch, they were with her again. At the end of side A Haseo as a fan disappeared from new jeans, so they erased her from the board. The lyrics actually fit the storyline, both sides just want the other side to tell them they care the same way, to say ditto. At least I thats what I think of the underlying theme. Being a fan is only what you fit into your life, it need not be parasocial or negative, it can lead to fun memories, good times etc. With the arm cast and title and everything the video storyline/imagery itself sort of mirrors the 2000 korean movie of the same name. Ditto.

i am loving this story. at first it reminded me of the treasure boys’ mysterious class drama and the anime ‘another’ and i thought heesoo wasn’t real, but then i started leaning toward the accident theory where heesoo’s friends died in an accident involving a deer (hence the cast) and she can’t cope with their loss (understandably) idk either way the song is a bop

The deer is symbolic and represents resurrection and personal transformation. It's a sign that you should be open to new ideas and opportunities in life and not dwell on the past.

Since no one really knows, what's going on in the videos, there are already a bunch of different theories about the story out there. The theory I like the most (btw not my ideas!!! I just read through a bunch of different ones and kinda formed this lmao) is that all of them were in some kind of an accident, and Heesoo (the girl recording everything) is the only survivor and maybe deals with some sort of survivors guilt(?) (she is wearing a cast and there are things like 'don't die' etc. written on it). In side A she can't get over the fact that her friends are gone, so she kinda imagines 'a world' where they are still with her and she keeps on filming them like she did before the accident. All the other students are either worried about her, or they find her weird, but no one is actually talking to her/helping her. In the side B she slowly realises that NewJeans is acutally gone (maybe with the help of the boy), which is why she isn't filming their dancing anymore and decides to drop the camera. The boy might have helped her get over her dead friends, since she is going away with him at the end. The last scene in side B shows Heesoo when she is older and finds the old tape again. She reminisces the old times where they were still alive and had fun. The moment NewJeans and her come into her room again, maybe means that even though she got over their deaths, she remembers their precious time with a smile on her face. Not really sure what the deer means tho. Some said it is some kind of symbolism for self awareness or that is was the reason for their accident but i don't really know^^ Again just a theory and might be far from the truth haha.

Discovered them only about 3 weeks ago then read/heard about a new song called "Ditto" -- my thought was that if is the direction you're going I'm in. But was a little worried this release might not be so go until I watched both A and B and wow. Many might focus on the visuals and story, which was great, but for me the it's the vocals -- they are all 5 excellent voices. If they keep putting this stuff out they could be the first kpop group to seriously reach the rest of the world. There can't be any serious challengers for rookie of the year can there?

It's actually "Like you a little". And I think the first line just makes sense and you listen to the chorus for a second time since the end of the pre-chorus is "But I don't want to... Stay in the middle. Like you a little." So what they are saying is that they don't want to have no answer for their feelings.
