My wife and i currently are owned by our 8th and 9th Newf. We got out first in 1988. We have two at a time and have had 3 in the house three times. We call it "Black Dog Disease". Absolutely love this breed, cleaning hair and slobber are nothing compared to the enjoyment and love these dogs bring >
Hey boss, love your channels, I have a female, one year old Chesapeake Bay Retriever who is great and I live two blocks from Lake Michigan so she swims on a daily basis. The question I have for you is that if I were planning on getting a Newfoundland puppy do you think I may be working her or him too much with an older Chessie sister. I mean I bartend nights and I'm with my dog all day so I wouldn't dream of putting a puppy through hell just because they may want to keep up with an older puppy that doesn't stop moving. Just going to point out, my big boy is well over 180lbs, closer to 200lbs. Yes his vet is very aware of this. Hes actually still a bit skinny. Just a special big boy
I have owned 2 Newfs, Obviously we love the breed. We are getting a 3rd soon. What is your opinion on clicker training for the puppy? It's been a year since our last boy died.
What brand should I feed my Newfoundland? Grain or grain free. I’m in the US

Hey. Our breeder recommended Purina Pro. Some Newfies do well with that brand. BUT I have found that our Newfoundland Landseer didn’t respond well to dry dog food. By the time Chewy was almost one, we had him on a raw diet. I also give him organ meat 2xs a week. I give just a little bit of veggies and some fruit in his diet. A bit of rice too. His breath and overall smell is better in this raw diet. He is now 5 and doing well but since he is getting older, he will need joint supplements. Are breeder bred her Newfies well so he has no major health issues. I hope you are able to figure out what is best for you and your dog. We are on IG @chewynewfie if you have any questions, DM.
