Ron - always enjoy your content. You mentioned that you might be changing out the McHenry couplers for MT. Have you done that, and if so, could/would you share what you've done? Thank you in advance!

I buy a lot of the per diem boxcars. I do like the Athearn nscale rolling stock. They have good paint and enough detail to look good. They are not super detailed like some other brands I have but they are not as expensive either. I am not a fan of the McHenry couples myself but love my Athearn cars.

I agree on McHenry. I am going to do a video on upgrading them for the main channel.

Ron I am curious about your opinions on couplers. Why do you like body mounted couplers more than the truck mounted ones? Some of my corner radiuses are a little tight ( 11 to 12 inch radius ) seems like truck mounted couplers work better on tight radius?? It seems like the McHenry knuckle couplers aren't the best. I have a bunch of Bachmann Grain cars with McHenry Knuckle couplers and would like to change them to Micro Trains but it is always hard to figure out what is the best replacement, what would you suggest? Always appreciate your suggestions and when you state the replacement numbers in your videos. I upgraded my ScaleTrains Locos with micro train couplers 2003 and 2006 couplers similar to the 2001 and 2004 couplers you suggested. Our hobby store in Edmonton Canada has some options but not everything.

Hey, Devin. The thing is there is no one size fits all solution on couplers. I know it seems logical that truck mounted couplers would be better in tight curves, BUT when shoving cars through curves, the truck mounted couplers put pressure laterally across the truck, pushing the flange against the rail and often causing derailments. Body mounted couplers helpmsolve this issue, but if you have very tight curves you may need longer shanks. I hope that helps.

GS&M, Ron you know that is not a real railroad.... It is a pretend and made up just like Mr. Rogers Neighborhood. I thought you were a little more accurate and prototypical in your model railroading than this foobar... SMH
