I remember in the early mid to late 80's I lived with my grandparents and my grandfather was a huge lover of music. Opera, Classical, Country to some extent, show tunes and soundtracks. He really loved David's Buster Poindexter material and I always thought how incredible it was he could reach such a broad audience. Very cool and shows what a talented and creative artist David is.

I've always wondered what would happen if I was alive during the 70's, rich, and had David Johansen, Johnny Thunders and Iggy Pop come to a drug fueled and debauchery shindig at my Scarface mansion in Beverly Hills. Most likely wouldn't be asking this question now that I think about it.....

Ross did not get the reference to Esquerita (who inspired no less than Little Richard) and didn't like that he didn't < From that point on, Johansen looked sepulchrally bored. I've always found this interview to be criminal levels of cringe - what a wasted opportunity, Ross's questions are beyond banal and reductive - dress sense? age? Just awful. They deserved a lot better :(

Great interview, why are British people so unusually picky about odd things. I'm an uncompromising "elitist" by most people's standards and this was just kind of a simple fluff piece on a great and influential band that never really got their due and are now very old people and near death. Well...I think one of them did die. The interviewer seemed like a nice man. What is good, exactly? Please don't fucking say Oasis.

@@onlyinmiles9195 That would not be what I am saying, not any of the things you have imagined. What are you even saying? Hahaha. Sorry, not your average internet robot here, heh. 1.) No, I'm not one of these people who are going to get in some bullshit argument about "where punk started" (as I am not British, heh) 2.) I am not going to get into an argument about Americans Vs. British people in general (once again, I'm not British) 3.) I have pretty much all the records (in general) and can tell you anything you would like to know (I mean about all of this, all of popular music, from the operetta, marching bands, River boat music and vaudeville to Amebix, Burzum, Merzbow, and fucking George Formby. *Please do challenge me.* I don't require any lessons, I teach them. I mean that literally. I was referring to the great British public and especially their media being a bit rude and hitting below the belt about foolish things. This is a normal interview and these guys are elderly people at this point, their band was great (whether everyone likes them or not) and people are ripping them apart in the comments. (I haven't see this in a while, I don't know what the comments look like now, so bear in mind things may have been deleted) They bitched about the interviewer, the way David looked, the Dolls music, and really every detail but the set and production quality. I simply do not find this that remarkable. It's not particularly that bad, none of the things people mentioned. The Oasis comment was about the state of music and musical opinions in more recent decades. There was once a time when we looked to the U.K. (I mean that correctly, not just "blighty" proper) for it's high standard in musical excellence particularly in pop music (though there's a lot more than the Mersey sound, Mod, Glam, Heavy Metal, Punk, Postpunk and New Wave/Synth type acts to be admired for sure, theres a cold sadness in English orchestral music and jazz that is like nothing else in the world and the folk music from all over that part of Europe is to my ear superior to much of what is to found on the continent.) These days the ugly tabloids and chavs and modern goofballs of all flavors seem to have mostly consumed the conversation and not only do i not hear the excellent music and endearing accents we are accustomed to hearing here in America; I do not hear the unparalleled wit and humor nor depth of meaning in the speech or see the excellent fashion and design in their handy work and on their arses that we have all come to know and love and deeply respect in the colonies. Now, I can't say much for what they might be seeing from over there about us, and I really don't care much for most people here either, but in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico (places i am frequently as I travel constantly in my profession) I can definitely say it's not all as bad as it might look from a distance or if you just visit and spend your time in the wrong places with the wrong people. I assume the same can be said for there and sure, I've met some alright individuals, but most the English you see on the internet and what you hear in the British media is either woke stupidity or uninformed old dude fascistic stupidity so I suppose I would expect a bit more humility and a smidgeon less acidic, vitriolic abuse from such a thusly afflicted population. I have no fucking idea why you are talking about musical influence as that would be very hard to extrapolate from what I have written above. I assume you see the bullshit internet argument meat before you even enter one of these "discussions" but I may be mistaken, perhaps you simply have a dire reading comprehension deficiency. Anyway, that's why you are currently getting exactly what you deserve and desire. Yes, we are part of the great transatlantic Rythmn and blues conversation tradition, which, I suppose if you count all of Europe extends much farther back than any Charlie Patton 78 or even The Dave Clark five (!!!) I can play every song by every band you mentioned on guitar drums and ...moog (sitting right in front of me, these new grandmother's are really worth having a go at, I highly recommend them though they are monophonic so I suppose you'll have to forgive me on that one matter, hahaha... aren't I a twat?) Now just insult me and go away please you are out of your depth by a "kilometer." I'm going to go and listen to the original UK issue of "Pictures of Lilly" and jack off to 1920s pornography. Tally ho, you foxy lady, you?

@@onlyinmiles9195 There's one way out of this, you can say that was too long to read....but... it's not for you anyway, dear. ;) Looks like you stepped in a mess you can't get off your shoe! Don't worry, after you turn tail and run and delete your comment I'll delete mine too. (Just kidding, the thread will remain with your name and your conspicuous absence.) Ain't I a stinker! edit: Of course you could also take the moral high road, I mean your unsolicited comment was confused and without warrant or merit, but I responded like such a self satisfied prick that you could pretend that it is you who have been accosted and not I. But we both know that would be strategic back pedalling and not at all what your initial intentions were. @@chuckufarlie8215 You seem like an intelligent oddball, but how do u expect me to reply to that? U argued with yourself and described your whole life story merely because someone on the internet couldn’t understand your comment, u said please don’t say oasis fucking Oasis? So u don’t think highly of them? U have to realise Oasis captured modern day Britain perfectly, there songs were the epitome of British youth and the lyrics of a working class young man blended with fast rock n roll rhythms stolen from the likes of T.Rex and the Beatles so the best of the best. You might not understand oasis because your not from Britain whereas I am, they spoke for every young person of that era just like the sex pistols did before them, lyrics like “I want to be myself I cant be no one else” spoke to an entire generation and great music never dies u have young kids begging for 50yo men to get back together. Merely because they never broke out of Britain and ur stuck up persona who listens to classical music might find a dissatisfaction with a band that lacks depth in there musical ability you have to understand Oasis were a great band and no one has come near to them for the last 30 years. I highly dislike oasis and i highly believe in the quote it’s better to burn out than fade away and i feel like oasis have faded away badly living off there old hits and doing there solo work that nobody wants to hear, so I’m not your casual fan boy and I’m only knowledged in the subjects of rock n roll and the blues as chuck Berry says when I say the word the blues I use both my lips. 👄 And to quote the great Chuck u Farlie: 𝗣𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗱𝗼 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗺𝗲

@@onlyinmiles9195 Look, I like the Gallaghers, they're assholes...and I can relate to that. I just don't think they're all that amazing. lots of bad forced rhymes they should have worked harder on. That lyric you mentioned kinda reminds me of The Lemonheads drug buddy...not that thats the only thing like that. They borrow way more from mid eighties college rock from England and america than the Beatles and Marc Bolan. Anyway, I was poking fun but I don't hate them that much ...and dude, they were really big over here...it probably should have been Spiritualized and Pulp instead of Oasis and Blur, but it happened...The Verve was alright too...but my music knowledge has never been based on where im "from." Actually im not even from anywhere really. Well, I appreciate your attitude, you're a better man than most for not just being an egomaniac or acting like im foaming at the mouth when im just drinking beer and watching Boxing as usual.
